i think they like it because they ARE new to moby and have not heard
his early style of music... they might not like him if they knew he
was techno...
personally, i was not really impressed with AR... i was really
disappointed... we can't really force him at gunpoint to turn back to

moby would stop wining and start making good techno. i had a good

i'm sure you're not the only one with that opinion. lots of people feel
the same as you. that's fine, but you have to remember that you are not
moby. if you don't like his guitar based stuff, then don't buy it.
there's plenty of other techno makers out there to choose of.

to ask meaningful questions like that.

fagtowne? can't say i've been there. perhaps you otta go there once
in a while to get that chunk of wood pulled out of your buttocks.
dude. real punk? real techno? describe these terms to me. i don't
consider moby's guitar stuff to be punk. or death metal, or anything
else. i don't want to listen to something that is "real" or "pure" or
"totally" one thing or another. i like hybrid artists like moby.

first i want to say, who the hell are you, anyway? its one thing
to have an opinion, but utter slander is a completely different thing.
not only did you rip up moby's shit, but some fellow fan's, too. i think
that is a bunch of crap. "moby is dead." what is that about? "he should
stop whining and make some real techno." you really think he should give
up his beliefs and make what people (like YOU) would like? hmm... sounds
like the kind of _selling_out_ that a "real" punk would NEVER do... tsk
tsk... "echo."
i like moby's music. thats why im on this mailing list. ive read
the inside of the Everything is Wrong cover, and, as you probably know its
all about the "bunch of crap" youre speaking of, animals rights, among
other things. Moby's beliefs. and whether you want to believe that they
have any validity whatsoever, its just a statement. its not being forced,
its more like a humble request. from Move: "There are viable (and usually
better) alternatives to the use of animals for food, sport, clothing, &
experimentation. i beg {NOTE THIS PART} you to discontinue any actions
that might cause or condone animal torture, abuse, or destruction." --
Moby. believe what you want to believe man, but leave room for everyone
else.

I'll be honest with you, I was totally disappointed with Animal
Rights at first but I've grown to like it after about 2 listens. It took
me a month just to listen to it again. I like punk rock so this
'rock' jump isn't a huge shocker for me, I just wasn't into the style.
The only song that I think is crap is "My Love Will Never Die".
The other songs are brilliant.
Just to let you know, I have A LOT of his Techno stuff and I
prefer EIW: Mixed and Remixed to AR, but it's still brilliant stuff.
Just listen to it a few more times with a not-so-negative attitude
and enjoy the music...

Subject: (mobility) The Child is Gone
Well, the posts from John Michael David were quite a surprise. And of
course inappropriate. So yes, he is gone from this list and I will be
sending him an email letting him know that he is NEVER welcome back.
Sheesh, two disappointments in one night... first having to miss the
chat because of work, then I'm greeted with this guys childish posts.
Oh well, there's always one out there. If he returns I will have to put
the list into an 'approve subscribe' mode until I get a permanent ban on
him and hopefully kicked from his current ISP. <evil grin> Sorry I
couldn't get to him quicker.
Okay, so anything in particular that the list should know? Please
share. How many people were able to attend? I'm sure there will be a
transcript but does anyone have anything planned for their own web
pages? Okay, I guess that's enough from me.

Well, I just spent the past hour or so reading the transcript. First of
all my mind has melted and I have a terrible headache. So after this
I'm going to go and take some drugs and go to bed. But first, here are
some thoughts...
Had I not read the transcript I would never allow 'echo' back again.
But now I have an understanding of what his attitude is all about. I
will most likely allow him back if he can learn to respect others. He
can express whatever he likes, but causing a flame war and disrespect
won't be allowed on this list. So when he gets over that... he'll be
allowed to come back (I will be letting him know this).
Disagree/Agree? Then write me personally and let me know. Thanks.
Next. Whoa!!! That seemed like a pretty chaotic chat. Especially
because of the other group that was suppose to show up. Grrr, who
messed that up?
Next. Please don't post the transcript to the list! Hopefully it won't
be allowed to go through considering the size. But don't try it, just
go to http://awk.campus.vt.edu/~awk/moby-chat.txt or something else
instead. I found this link on Daniel's site
(http://www.hyperreal.com/music/artists/moby/news.html).
There's more that I could probably mention but my head is falling off so
I'll catch you all tomorrow.
p.s. thanks to all those who mentioned the MOBILITY mailing list. :)

the first time i heard "new dawn fades" on the "feeling so real

was techno...

i've been a moby fan for years... ever since i first got "early
underground"... i've loved his music... i guess it's what i've gotten
so used to him making... it was a disappointing surprise to hear AR
and find out from spin magazine he wasn't doing techno anymore... and
as brutal as echo was with his comments about moby, i kinda had to
agree... he should stick with what he does best... techno...

Hey Man
You need to chill out. This is not a list for personal vendetta. I
don't reply to the list too often, but what you are doing is downright
fucked. Who the fuck are you to start talking shit to people on this
list. We are on this list for a reason. Clearly you don't understand
this reason. Because if you did understand, you wouldn't be getting
yourself off by slamming the people here. You are probably some shelled
up computer nerd who feels that the touch of a keyboard gives you power
and identity. You call yourself echo because you have no soul, and your
innerself is nothing but hollow emptiness. You also have too much free
time. Otherwise you wouldn't spend it bashing our group....mjs

Kind of a broad generalization there..don't you think??? Yes..I did buy
AR cuz it did have Moby's name on it..but I bought it w/ some reservations..
Never hearing Moby do a pure rock/punk song...I wasn't sure what to expect..
As for liking anything w/ Moby's name on it..just ask a few ppl what they
think about the Lopez singles...Until I hear differently(unfortunatly I
didn't get the answer I wanted at last night's chat)..I'm still going to
hold to my opinion that those tracks are his way of showing the world what
a lot of "techno" has become..repetitive and w/out feeling.

Well..considering Moby did give his "supposed" address in NY...you could
go up to him..put a gun to his head...and force him to do "techno"...But
hopefully you see it from my side...I'd rather see him happy and making
rock/punk music...than having to feed the masses what they want...Besides...
he hasn't let the Voodoo Child in him die..even though that's more ambient..
it's still "techno" :)

Kind of a broad generalization there..don't you think??? Yes..I did buy
AR cuz it did have Moby's name on it..but I bought it w/ some reservations..
Never hearing Moby do a pure rock/punk song...I wasn't sure what to expect..
As for liking anything w/ Moby's name on it..just ask a few ppl what they
think about the Lopez singles...Until I hear differently(unfortunatly I
didn't get the answer I wanted at last night's chat)..I'm still going to
hold to my opinion that those tracks are his way of showing the world what
a lot of "techno" has become..repetitive and w/out feeling.

subscribe mobility-digest local-mobility@your.domain.net
A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to
subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "mobility-digest"
in the commands above with "mobility".
Back issues are available for anonymous FTP from ftp.xmission.com, in
