Subject: (mobility) Introduction
Ok so I'm not really new but I just realized that I never gave a formal
introduction of myself. Well here I go:
I am a 18 year old male agnostic/atheist vegetarian (soon vegan). Going to
college.
Before you get bored from reading the below. Has Moby ever covered the
Smiths' "Meat Is Murder" I think that would be really great to hear.
Moby collection includes: Moby,Ambient,Go-Remixes,Everything Is Wrong,Animal
Rights (UK),Everything Is Wrong Remixes,Bring BAck My Happiness,Feeling So
Real,Move,well that's enough for now
First Moby experience: college radio played "New Dawn Fades" and I fell in
love. Moby was my first introduction to electronic music and brought me out
of my grunge rut.
Comments: All though I am atheist/agnostic (can't decide) I admire Moby's
love of Christ and his rejection of typical Christians. Love Animal Rights
just as much as early stuff. Admired Moby for his "straight edge" ways, but
wonder if he is drinking beer like everyone has mentioned (is this true and
what source?)
Other music interests: Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett, Rage Against The Machine,
Cure, Smiths/Morrissey, Pineal Ventana (local Atlanta/anybody know of
them?),Aphex Twin
Well see you all later,
James

Hello everyone,
Lately the majordomo email program that operates this mailing list seems
to be running funny. I am getting some weird responses. I need to know
if any of you have had problems sending messages to the
'mobility@xmission.com' address. Mainly, have any of you sent a message
and never saw it arrive to the list? Or sent a message that took over 4
hours to deliver? If so please let me know. Thanks.

US on April 15th,but when will it be released here?
Thanks.

Well, I haven't been having any of those problems, but there is something I
wanted to bring up - Whenever anybody else posts anything to the list, his or
her name appears as "sender " on my computer, but whenever I post anything to
the list, it appears as "To mobility@xmission.com". It was like that before
the list got switched over to the new server as well.
Actually, what I meant by "sender" (since I'm using a crappy text editor right
now which won't let me go up and edit what I wrote above) is that their name
appears, not the word "sender".
Just curious about this....
Peace,
Brian

I cast my vote for Moby's friendliness as well. I felt like I had
known him for longer than the few minutes I talked with him. This is
a quality I think all of us should strive for, (but of course not be
so gullible that it get us into trouble). Good for Moby. I think I
could have taken more items for him to sign, because he was so eager
to do so! I went around and asked a few people if they were on the
list, randomly, and all of them had no idea what I was talking about.
Anyways, I assume a lot of you were there. It was fun being in the
same room with all of you. And plus I had the EXQUISITE privilege of
seeing that master of industrial knowledge (sarcasm), ZOLTAR. No
offense to anyone who likes Mr. Zoltar, but his show is so annoying
to me. He rarely plays anything new. Repeats the same tracks over
and over again: Nitzer Ebb - Join in the Chant, then some stupid
crap from "hate department", then Chemlab, then the Empirion mix of
Firestarter (which I have no problem with), then some Rage against
the machine or Korn, speaking of which it pisses me off that he stays
totally away from Marilyn Manson for GOD knows what reason... Anyway,
have fun and don't forget to smile. RRR

Just wanted to quickly write (I'm outta time again). I saw 'revolver'
on M2 yesterday and they had it censored like we had heard about
earlier. He now sings "that's when I realize it's over". It works
really well with the video but makes you think "sell out" because he did
it. Hmmmm... I don't know.
Anyway, I'll talk more about it when I get home later tonight... gotta
run. Sorry so short...

that doesn't make any sense. why would they censor the lyrics for
eMpTyVee when they don't have to for the radio. i've heard it on q101

Subject: (mobility) Revolver - The Video
Okay, I'm back from work and now I have more time to talk about the
Revolver video that I saw on M2 (sadly, M2 is only available on
satellite - lucky me). Anybody else see this yet? Anyone in the US?
Yesterday, I had just walked in the door when my roommate yelled and
said that Moby's new video was on M2 and that he was a sell out. So I
rushed to the tube and what did I see? An excellent video that had been
censored. As you all know, Moby sang "that's when I realize it's
over". If fit really well and I only caught the last half of the video
so I couldn't tell if it was a voice over or something that they
actually redid.
Here are a few of the images that I remember from the video. Moby was
dressed in a business suit (I'm not sure if that was all of the time or
not). He is bald of course and has a spot of hair under the lip, it
doesn't look bad IMO.
I remember him running down the street a lot. I remember him in a car
with another girl, getting hot and heavy. I remember him in a club with
people circling around him. Sometimes you see him with a guitar and
other times not. Anyway, I only caught half of the video.
It was shocking to see that he had actually censored it however. And
when the credits came around it said the real title of the song - That's
When I Reach For My Revolver. Now, I don't really care to debate but
isn't Depeche Mode song called "Barrel of a Gun"? If so, doesn't MTV
play that without hesitation? And doesn't it say in the lyrics -
"looking down the barrel of a gun"? I figure that is just as bad, but
what do I know. :) All that I have to say is M2/MTV better show this
video a lot since they pushed for it to be censored.
Okay, enough from me. Just some random thoughts. Bye now...

I saw it last ngiht right after AMP, when MTV does another showing of M2.
It wasn't that great of a video, but it was okay. I thought censoring the
lyrics was sort of stupid, and it seemed that the video version just wasn't
as good with "that's when i realize it's over", but that's okay. At least I
got to see it.

Well, I was going to instantly recommend Mute to you. But right now
they are screwing things up. Or maybe I should clarify, I don't know
what they are doing. They said that they received my order and I
haven't heard back from then since. It's almost a month now and I've
written another letter asking what's going on as of a week ago with no
response.
As you already know, Mute is Moby's distributor in the UK. I have
worked with them a couple of times with orders and sometimes they do it
perfect, other times it takes forever. But you can try them and see how
it works (I didn't make it sound too promising did I {sarcasm}). Also,
I would recommend Paul Tucker <synthmaniac@rmci.net>. He is a current
member of Mobility and he has a great collection of Moby stuff. Then
again, maybe I just bought it all. Hehehe...
Other than that I can't think of anything else. I know Modified Music
(http://www.modified-music.com/) is pretty good with getting Moby
stuff. They are located in the US and will let you know what they have
in stock or how soon they can get it. Good luck!

Moby, "That's When I Reach For My
Revolver" b/w "Whip It"
Poneman himself told ATN this isn't exactly what he had in
mind for his first Moby single, not that there's anything wrong
with it. Well, maybe he can say that, but to these ears, Moby
might want to re-think his new drink. Seemingly climbing the
fence into rock when everybody is scrambling to climb into
his techno pit, Moby trashes the Mission to Burma cover on
the A-side by turning it into a cheesy metal-lite song that
sounds like a battle of the (cover) bands between Talk Talk
and Loverboy rip-off artists. The vocals can best be
described as "pinched" and the guitar solo sounds lifted out
of the Guitar Institute's "101--Intro to Heavy Metal" course
packet. Similarly, the Devo cover is a plodding, metallic
mess that takes the fun out of the original, although you can
bet Moby himself had a hoot laying down the Satanic vocals
and distorted guitar riff. It's gothic, weird and Moby tries to
hard to be menacing. But while it's oddly funny, it's just not
very good.
