Subject: (mobility) LTJ Bukem & Blue Light
Date: 01 Aug 1997 13:05:18 -0700
I just realized I've never actually introduced myself to the list, and
I've been on it for some time, so here goes.
My name's Jon, I'm 21 & I'm from just outside of Toronto. Since I was 15
or 16 I've been into industrial (Coil, BiGod20, Die Krupps etc.) but in the
past few years I've been getting into more techno oriented stuff; as
industrial has been way to stagnant. I don't really remember *why* I
bought Everything Is Wrong-I know that I hadn't heard it previously-To be
honest I think that it was the gorgeous cover that did it for me, and since
it was on the $13.99 new release rack I took a chance. I liked it, but
really didn't pay that much attention to it. That only lasted for a
month-a friend new that I had it, and taped the "Move" version of "All That
I Need Is To Be Loved" off of the radio for me. The moment I heard it I
knew that I'd been overlooking something really special. I've got a nasty
habit of buying *everything* by an artist that I like (eg. 47 nin cds, 26
kmfdm, 14 underworld etc) and I've started to do it with moby, and this is
what I've got:
I Feel It
Move
Everything Is Wrong
Disk
Everytime You Touch Me
Everytime You Touch Me Remixes
Into The Blue
Into The Blue Remixes
Bring Back My Happiness
Everything Is Wrong DJ Mix 2cd
Animal Rights UK 2cd
That's When I Reach For My Revolver
That's When I Reach For My Revolver (w/ GMOTFOTW)
Come On Baby (6 track)
Animal Rights US
Rare: The Collected B-Sides (w/ Go mixes)
Voodoo Child: Higher
Lopez: Why Can't It Stop?
Lopez: Emptiness
DJ Cake: Sugar Baby
Voodoo Child: Dog Heaven
*ANYWAY*, back to the original reason I'm posting this:
1) Has anybody heard "Music" by LTJ Bukem? It's on the "Logical
Progression" album, and about 7:20 into the song I'm almost 100% positive
that he samples the female vocal from "I Feel It"....useless information
2) Just wanted to let you all know that I finally heard "The Blue Light Of
The Underwater Sun" for the first time yesterday. Wow, it really blew me
away....

ain't it the truth?!!? seems like every industrial band that cums
out sounds EXACTLY the same as any other. how much can you really
do with angst anyways? never heard a pleasant industrial song,
with the exception of some kmfdm....
"we like talking dirty, we smoke and we drink, we're kmfdm, and all
other bands stink!" gotta love them lines....but anyways....

you are right, that's the same sample, but it isn't liscensed by moby.
that's a common vocal bit used in lots of techno/electronicstuff.

this is in my top of all moby songs. the perfect blend of eveything
he does well.

I've been reading some vegan / animal rights newspapers lately, and I
thought you might want to know that I've seen Moby mentioned several times
in them. I was first a bit surprised since there must be more vegan artists
around, but I guess it's just that nobody makes propaganda for it as much
as Moby. (Which I think is a good thing, if you care...)
Cheers,

AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH
I've tried everyday since tuesday to get The End of Everything, but NOBODY
has it here in Little Rock. Best Buy doesn't even have it in their
computer. It looks like I'm going to have to call elektra and just get it
direct on promo. I thought it would be quicker to just buy the damn thing.
Of course, on the plus side, they are expecting "I Like to Score" on Aug.

You're not alone... I have not found the album either. I wonder how
much promotion, if any, has gone into this release. Sometimes I wonder,
what's the point of releasing it if nobody knows about it? I hear that
a promo CD and a fax has been sent out... but is there anything else?

I have 2 tix for Bip Top here in Chi-town. Shit's on. I was away on
vacation for a week. Picked up my Spawn stdk. (had it on reserve 'cause i
got a free shirt w/it. Has all the artists on the back. My first official
Moby shirt.) I haven't listened to it yet. Let you all know soon. What
else, oh couldn't find EoE at my store. Picked up the new Lords of Acid

on another note.. people have mentioned already getting tickets for the

i like animal site. along with "patient love" and "slow motion suicide"
it is one of my favorite tracks from teh album. i'm not sure why they
chose to get rid of it. i'd get the uk version regardless just to have
it if nothing else...but i have to have everything by moby you see,

It might be because of space. Maybe "Animal Sight" was just a tad too
long to fit on the album with "Reject". Or maybe they're just greedy
record companies that want to ensure that dedicated Moby fans buy the
same album from both Mute and Elektra.

i think moby is up to something. listen to the three above songs and tell
me what you notice.
i don't wanna ruin the surprise, but they are all basically the same
song. "alone" is "dead city" with drums. "great lake" is the first two
chords of "alone" and "dead city." and, not suprisingly, "alone" is one
of my favorite songs of all time. so of course, i also like "dead city" and
"great lake" a lot.
to save on a bunch of messages, here's where you can find these great songs:
"alone" - "bring back my happiness" CD single
"great lake" - voodoo child's "the end of everything"
"dead city" - little idiot (UK AR bonus CD)
i know this has been gone over before, but i think it's worth mentioning
again.
has anyone seen "the end of everything" on vinal? i'd love to mix these
three songs together. kinda like "hymn.alt.quiet.version." one big long
beautiful song. >8)

if you're a die hard fan, yes. it IS a very good track tho. the best on
that single. it's like "anthem," only mello-er. nice bass/melody line.

That's too bad. I don't know him well but I was hoping to use this as a
great introduction to the music. I wonder why there has been so much
mis-information on them participating. Maybe they pulled out of things
late?
Here's a bit from Mixmag (US - Aug issue) that talks about the tour:
BIG TOP TOUR HITS AMERICA
Kicking off on August 27 in Detroit and running nationally through
September 13, the two-week Big Top tour will feature two dozen top
electronic acts. Moby, BT, Aphex Twin (playing with Wagon Christ) and
LTJ Bukem will share the bill with the likes of Michael Dog, MC Conrad
and Blame from the Logical Progression posse, Emperion, Banco De Gaia,
Loop Guru, Paul van Dyk, Jaun Atkins, Joey Beltram, Fabio from
Grooverider, Twelve Trees, and Ed Rush. Event organizers are hoping to
sell out 10-15,000 seat amphitheaters with 8-10 hours of performance
expected.
"We're bringing over some of the most influential artists and and DJs in
the various genres of electronic music," explained event organizer,
Marci Weber. "We want to highlight the best talent by bringing over
artists and DJs the underground wants to see, and at the same time turn
on a new audience to the best so they at least start off with a great
foundation to learn more about the music. That's the intention...there
are no favors here."
Tickets will be around $30 and will be available through TicketMaster
and local record stores. Big Top may not be Tribal Gathering, but is
sure sounds like a great start.

p.s. When the tickets for the SF show go on sale, will someone please
let me know? Thanks. BTW, how far is the Shoreline Amphitheater out of
SF?

Does anyone have the new album by Jam & Spoon, 'Kaleidoscope'? Damian?
The fourth track is entitled 'Warm Dead Dog' and bears a passing
resemblance to Voodoo Child's 'Dog Heaven'. The Jam & Spoon is a little
more complex and layered than DH but it is based on similar melody,
with that simple, rolling feel to it.
It it just me or can you guys hear it too? I don't think it is
inconceivable that Moby has had an influence on other artists.

I read this today...It sounded like a night for those who could tolerate,
but it sounded too friggin cool.
Addicted To Noise New York correspondent
Dakota Smith reports : The marquee read "Fast Times
at Coney Island High: America's #1 Fun All-American
Cover Band." Those who knew got the joke, and God
help the ones who wandered in clueless.
The place: New York's Coney Island High nightclub in the
East Village. The night: Sunday. The occasion: "All fun, all
covers, no original music guaranteed," according to the
invitation, which listed the players as "Keith 'Disque 9'
Fancy on guitar, Moby on bass and Mystery Guy [Duke Mushroom, one of
the founders of the New York-based dance performance group "Stomp"] on
drums." The cost: free, or very cheap.
The artist behind the not-so-pseudo pseudonym: Moby.
Never one to limit himself artistically, Moby -- most recently reincarnated as
a metalhead and once considered the face of techno -- has apparently
moved on to his cheesy '80s cover band period. Opening with a hard-core
cover of Twisted Sister's radio hit "We're Not Gonna Take It," the #1 Fun
All-American Cover Band treated the sweaty crowd at Coney Island to more
than an hour and a half of bizarre covers and long-forgotten hits, most of
them unrehearsed, many of them sloppier than you could imagine.
All wearing identical black button-down shirts, matching black suits, skinny
white ties and oversized eyeglasses, it was easy to spot Moby and his
fellow band members as they drank beers and mingled with the audience
before the show. In addition to Moby, Mushroom and Fancy, the group that
took the stage included Paul Yates, a friend of Moby's, on tambourine.
"It was like a wedding band gone wrong," said musician John Hancock,
who witnessed the whole fabulously awful thing. "But in a wonderful way. It
was almost like a wedding band who'd gotten all pissed-off at each other
and decided to each do their own thing."
"If anyone knows the lyrics or chords better than we do, come on up,"
announced Fancy as the band warmed up for the show, which included
unique takes on, get this, Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle," Bob Seger's
"Night Moves," Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself," Joan Jett's "I Love Rock
And Roll" and Kenny Roger's "The Gambler."
Hancock, who described the vibe between the musicians as "very
haphazard, mostly straightforward, but definitely bizarre," said most of the
audience seemed to be in on the joke, and loving it.
If it came from the '80s, the All-American Band covered it, and with great
energy: the usually reserved Moby howled the lyrics and paraded around the
stage like fluff pop star Rick Springfield conducting a cheerleading rally.
Like a mirror facing a mirror, the band was obviously a parody of itself; it
was like listening to a cover band cover a cover band.
Shelby Meade, of Nasty Little Man, publicists for Moby, had her own unique
take on the show, which also included covers of "99 Luft Balloons" by Nena
and Guns 'n Roses' MTV hit "Sweet Child O' Mine." "Hot. Sweaty.
Uncontrollable dancing. Horrible at moments and breathtaking at others,"
quoth Meade. Like the invitation promised, "come in and let us lay you down
with the covers."
"I've seen a Russian band do American cover songs," one friend shouted to
me over the thump-thump-thump of bass during Neil Diamond's "Sweet
Caroline." "They didn't speak any English," he yelled, "They were singing
phonetically, and they were better than this band."
Others in the audience were less amused, especially with Fancy's vocals,
consistently flat and off-key. "I'm a musician," an annoyed friend
commented. "And this is just gross to watch."
During the entire length of his mule-like crooning of Bonnie Tyler's "Total
Eclipse of the Heart," a female audience member held a lighter aloft
dangerously close to the singer's face. Whether this was a sign of adoration
or a threat was unclear.
For the brave who stayed through to the end of the 25-song set, there was a
rousing, bongo-accompanied version of Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy."
The future of the #1 All-American Cover Band seems unclear. Conflicting
stories abounded after the performance.
"We're going to L.A. next week to start recording," Mushroom enthused
after the show.
"At Ocean Way Studios," added Moby.
"It's just going to be fun recording party songs," Mushroom continued. "To
make a lot of money for our musician friends who did the songs."
A source at Nasty Little Man thought differently. "L.A.? What? No, Moby will
be in Europe next week."
But what about this record? "I don't know anything about it," she said with a
conciliatory giggle. "You know Moby..."
Was it all a dream? Was the band just having fun, or was this a disturbing
sign of things to come?
"It's always fun to be terrible," said Moby brightly after the triumphant
show.

So where was this friend when Fancy made the annoucement? Some ppl
need to lighten up and take things less seriously. The event was

Hey Mark...!
I love hearing from other Jam & Spoon fans. YES, I have had the
pleasure of owning the new J&S album "Kaleidoscope" for almost a week
now. I probably wouldn't have made the connection between "Warm Dead

Howdi Folks!
Funny thing happened: the First email from the mobility-list that entered my
system was about
J&S ! What a coincidence!
My music-provider (named Nick, to make it more confusing) is sampling me
full with J&S! In a few weeks a became a complete Techno-hip-freak!
This may be caused by my new speakers too, which are the BEST you can get!
(They make you squeek!)
Allright, I'm NOT frankz! Not even CLOSE, i'm just a terrible Zappa-freak
who happened to bump into Mr. Moby (as I like to call him) a couple of
months ago.... "INTO THE BLUE!!!!" <---- absolute top!
This must have been in the winter.
Just because somebody i give respect for his musical opinion, SAID to me:
Well, that new cd by Moby, Animal Rights, is more Punk, it's not at all like
Into the Blue,
AND because I have no soundcard YET (but watch me next week!)
That is the reason why it took me 3 months to go to a shop and Actually
Listen to AR!
I had to stay the whole hour! the Whole cd! I HAD to hear it all, Christ was
I hyper that day, that music fitted EXACTLY with my mind that day, and since
then I'm stuck there!
Totally HOOKED!
It's NOT Punk! It's MOBY!
It's Ultimate heavy! Best thing you can have to get rid of your agression:
Music ALWAYS has been the best way to handle agression, but Moby hits the
right spots,
his BEATMASTER remix for Into The Blue is So Absolutely GREAT, that I have
to play it almost every day!
Okay, I have these 'understandings' with the local police-officer, about
Moby-hours! It had to be dealt with, but it was a nice conversation: Moby
against the Main Airport of Holland! I was gonna win that! But now they
scheduled all the Holidayflights above my head! So I can Moby what I like! I
will never get above a Boeing!
By the way, I'm also bringin IN some discussion-items, although most of them
are answered by music ITSELF,
so why bother?
But, maybe it's unpolite to do such in a Intro-message,
I wonder how many ppl read this actually,
because I have some weird theories (which I'm still working on, so be=
invited)
about Music & Religion (well, actually God)
-this is no joke by the way-
I'm going to check Damian's Profiles-page before going on with this.

I'm a Dutch guy, consider myself not as a gentlemen, although I'm a very
Gentle Man!
I've been a Zappa-freak since 1972, always admired him since that moment,
that very special moment in time, when he and me connected! I can Always
hear him, he never irritates me, in fact he IS the God of Music, who died
much too soon!
Let's think about that!
I have a great collection of Zappa concerts on tape, provided to me by Nick
(let's pray!)
still growing! It's amazing what this has done to me the last 2 or 3 years,
it made me Zappa-freak AGAIN!
I met Nick (the tape-provider) much too late! But I met him!
He possesses maube 900 cassettes with (almost!) ALL the FrankZappa concerts,
it's without doubt something you would die for!
So, the last 2 or 3 years I've been listening to (for me) NEW Zappa-stuff, I
can tell you Folks! He had ALL the noises and sounds long before the word
Techno even existed!
Zappa had Techno in his first Album (almost) Lumpy Gravey! (1967!)
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
I'm not a collector 'pur sang'
Although I had the FZ vinylcollection almost Complete, I recently sold a few
of them which I own on cd level
I don't care about historic facts (vinyl-wise speaking)
(i used too!)
But I'm absolutely sure I'm gonna get everything By Mr. Moby!
It's probably his extreme conviction (of something? MUSIC!) which appeals to
me in him!
I listen to EVERY little kind of Music, in EVERY type of Music you have=

Moby is a wonder in his own!

I'm surprised that no one has commented on this yet. I quite liked the
short sample I heard. It sounds updated and worthy of its classic

Hmm. How do I explain? First of all you need to know what a digest is,
if not here's an explanation...
> If you subscribe to the digest you will receive groups of postings in

> (currently that would be an approximate once every week). It also

What you're seeing is a reply to a digest that was received without its
subject heading being modified. Each digest sent out is numbered... the
above mentioned was #44 in Volume One. If you want to check out the
XMission archives, check out the following URL:
http://www.xmission.com:80/pub/lists/mobility/ and click on "archive".
This will show you all of the digests since Mobility has been on the
XMission server.
Also check out the Mobility home page for more info...

I noticed it too. Have no idea what he'll be doing but I have info on
another compilation that Moby is suppose to be on soon... the following
comes from a fax that was passed on to me.
V/A - THE CORNERS OF THE MOUTH (a benefit for The School Of Sound)
STREET DATE: August 26, 1997
THE LINEUP: Mouse on Mars, Seefeel, Moby, Oval, E.A.R., The Dylan Group,
Hearing Is Our Concern, Scanner, Mice Parade, Aube, The Philistines Jr.
THE CONCEPT: It's a benefit record for The School Of Sound. What is
that, you ask? It's part of a non-profit organization called The Sound
Healers Association, based in Boulder, CO. These guys deal with people
who have heart-disease, hypertension, cancer and other stress-related
illnesses, showing them how certain forms of ambient music can help heal
them. The School Of Sound is the most active part of this group,
holding seminars, going to hospitals, etc. Hence, it is also the most
costly part, and in recent times has fallen into financial trouble. All
of the artists involved have contributed because they want to, and
proceeds from this record will go to Jonathan Goldman, founder of The
School Of Sound.
THE SALESPITCH: This is a really good record. No, but seriously. Try
and forget that it's a compilation swimming in a sea of compilations.
Many of the songs here are the best these artists have ever done. Deep
ambient, experimental, and them some - some electronic, some
live/acoustic. Serious, musical stuff. It also involves people from
all over the world, from the quickly jungle of Hearing Is Our Concern
(France), to the intense, melodic experiments of Mouse On Mars and Oval
(Germany); from the found-sound noise of Aube (Japan) to the outside
trance of Seefeel and E.A.R. (England), and the further-out,
unclassifiable singing of the Dylan Group (NYC). What have these
artists been up to recently? Mouse On Mars just released a
collaboration with Stereolab and the Too Pure label. Oval's "94
Diskont" (Thrill Jockey) is still selling well, and Scanner's newest
record on Primitive has gotten great write-ups in every publication
under the sun. The Dylan Group and The Philistines Jr. each have new
full-lengths on the way, and...uh... Moby always sells a billion
records.
STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW: All previously unreleased tracks.
Vinyl limited to 1,000.
This is a big priority for us.
Widespread promotion to press and radio.
NOT EXPORTABLE TO ENGLAND.
File Under: Alternative "V/A"
FORMAT: CD or 2XLP

it starts off with a very simple, mellow tune, and gradually gets more and
more beatless and soft. it's more like "little idiot" than anything else.
if you like his melodic, very emotional stuff, get it. not that "ar" isn't

Holland has a population of 15 million ppl
We were having 15 million pigs here too (in breeding)
This year the Pig-pest broke out,
we have 7 to 8 million pigs killed & destroyed here in 7 months,
but!!!
there STILL are 15 million pigs....
This is not a riddle! This is the way they breed!
Most of this meat is being exported...
Most of the Dutch people want to have the pig-population halved, but the
pig-farmers refuse. So the government has to force them, to give the pigs
more space per individual.... but that will cost a lot of MONEY! So they
refuse. They, the pig-farmers, have to be forced. By LAW.
So, if all MOby-fans in Holland would become vegetarians, we would still
have 14.990.000 pigs!
So, to give animals RIGHTS, we'd have to change the Free Market Economy,
not before that, things will change...
I regard it as a pretty naieve, egocentric, non-political solutuon, for
things that are very hard to solve! This veggieness, is merely an attitude:
LOOK at me! I'm not doing it: It's the OTHERS, who kill pigs! But I'm clean!
My hands are clean....
As long as the US allows companies like McDonalds to cut away forest in
order to grow meat for Hamburgers, and as long as new McDonalds are opening
every day,
as long as we have this Bible, in which everybody offers Animals to God, for
the most selfish reasons,
as long as people believe that Humans are not animals,
that long we will remain in this dirty mess!
Jesus wasn't a vegetarian!
Veggienism is not the issue,
the issue is Animal Rights
(Let's talk Music...!)

When you say, let's talk about music..and attack vegetarians in the same
message it seems to contradict. I don't believe you have the right to say
Jesus wasn't a vegetarian..and use it to attack vegetarians...since you
didn't know jesus..or his reasoning behind this...I really relate to Moby's
messages and have read further into the subject. I believe becoming a
vegetarian was the right thing to do. I understand that this creates job
problems..but I also believe the world has to change...growing pains.

raise and butcher a cow. in one illustration, there was this cute little
cow with a black "X" between it's eyes. the caption said something to the
effect of "this is were you want to strike the cow to stun it. shooting
causes the meat to be bloody and unappealing." basically, you stun the
cow, hang it upside down, cut it's throat and wait for the heart to pump
all the blood out. it lives for 5-10 minutes while the blood slowely
drains.
so next time you're in the meat isle, think of that cow, stunned and
confused, hanging by broken legs, slowly bleeding to death out it's neck
and feeling everything.

..ahh, but did it? and if so, will you *stay* vegetarian? its so easy to
hear this stuff and think oh gross and not eat meat for awhile and then
fall right back into your old carnivorous ways.. its easy to foget that
that lump smotheredin sauce once had a mother.. not that theres anything
wrong with ppl making their own decisions.. god knows i cant always hold
to all of my convictions.. but if you're gonna do it, know why youre
doing it, and if you mean it, do it for good. bc there is not one *bad*
side to being vegetarian.. i have felt about 500% healthier and happier
since my switch..
one day about a year ago i was eating baked ham and simultaneously saw
this picture of a pig, and out of nowhere it made me literally sick.. i
became a "born again" herbivore that night, seriously i "saw the light"-
and have been one ever since.. "cheating" is not a problem bc even the
smell of meat makes me want to wretch now.. things like xaq described are
abound in publications like peta and animal welfare and the stories are
just so disturbing.. everyone wants to look away & say its okay bc we've
always done it.. well, if that's the rationale, then i guess murders
okay, rape, slavery.. etc..
i went to the zoo today and even tho i hate to look at animals in cages
my boyfriend's little neice wanted to go.. we were looking at pigs and i
felt so good that i could look at them and feel okay about myself for not
being responsible for killing one of these intelligent beings.. just bc
you dont hold the knife/gun doesnt mean youre not pulling the trigger..
shit i'll get off my soapbox now- im sorry to ramble, i hate feeling like
i push things on ppl but its just so important to me- the world needs
more of us vegheads so if anyone needs advice ask or even if you can do
even a small part, like just eating meat once a day or something.. go for
it.

i find it funny that most of the vegetarians that have spoke up have
said two things:
1) there is nothing wrong with not being a vegetarian
and
2) some info about PETA
in my eyes PETA is a horribly run organization... being millitant and
sometimes violent does not make people want to hear your ideas... there
is a huge difference between civil disobeidience and militant force...
according to PETA it is NOT okay not to be a vegetarian.. you are sick,
evil and twisted if you eat meat... anyway on to what i really have to
say:
from the darwinist in me: there is at least on thing that is bad about
being a vegetarian.. the edges of your teeth dull and flatten and often
children who are raised in a vegetarian home have both dental and jaw
bone problems later in life.. no big deal though.. thats why we have the
beautiful practice of dentistry
now from the buddist in me: the reason budhism doesnt include
vegetarianism in its protocol is fairly simple (to me at least). It is
impossible to live your life without killing another being... you step
on bugs when you walk.. when you blink you kill a few of the millions of
mites that live in your eyelashes.. what makes a cows life more
important than the tiny insects underfoot?
anyone care to answer my question?

no, really, i think cows are cute. not plush ones or cartoon ones, but
real, live, stinky, sweaty, cud munchin' COWS!
anyway, someone asked me privatly if i still eat meat. yes i
do. but only at home with my parents. if i have the choice, i avoid it.
(meat, not my parents!) i mean, there's just something about a hot home
cooked meal that makes me forget myself.
however, i really do think that all animals have feelings and can suffer.
insects, however, are purly instinctual things, along with other bacteria
and such. they all deserve to live tho. we can't just kill off all the
bugs on the planet. however, i'm severly aracnaphobic (sp?) so next time
you see a spider, step on it for me.
i think (start music here) that to become a better species, we need to
make and eat things that have little or no impact on the planet. a veggie
lifestyle is the best first step we can make. even better, start a garden
and make your own food. that way, you know exactly where it's been.
humans are animals. i think the way we treat other animals is also a
reflection on how we treat each other. scary thought, huh?
anyway, what's the next moby single gonna be?

there is no doubt in my mind that insects have feelings.i don't think it
is possible to have your whole entire body crushed and not feel a
thing.the difference is:
A)stepping on a bug is not intentional.i never intentionally kill
bugs.even though most people do.
B)an insect isn't raised for the sole purpose of being
butchered.the killing of insects does not ruin thousands of acres of
land.it is not an industry.people do not make a living murdering
insects.at least a bug has the ability to fly away or hide.people don't
go out in the woods with a pistol hunting for bugs.they have somewhat of
a fair chance.i have no problem with people who eat meat.as long as they
go out in the wilderness and fight the animal with their bare hands.no
fences,no weapons.

all life is created equal.
a cow equals a bug.
a bug equals a human.
killing a bug is as negative as killing a human.
should we have just let hitler kill all the jews?
i mean, there was no way we could have saved them all, right?
so why did we bother to save as many as we could?
because we must do whatever it takes to preserve as much life as possible.
a human equals everything non-human.
so we must do what it takes to save as many bugs as possible.
there is no way we could go thru life without destroying something.
that is what we are best designed to do.
but it is part of the human condition to struggle against our destiny
and to do whatever it takes to "try" and make ourselves positive.
there is no way to achieve perfection, but the struggle brings us as
close as we can get.
and a good starting point for that struggle is a vegetarian diet.
love,
ryu

Boy...I know I'm going to regret jumping into this..but I feel there
are some things that need to be clairified(sp?)...
Before I even start..I will say that I am turning to a veg
lifestyle(slowly but surely)..So I do agree w/ a few opinions(Eric W.'s
being one)...
MO>the killing of insects does not ruin thousands of acres of
MO>land.
I dunno about that one..Seems to me the rainforests of the world would
have a harder time w/out the insects of the world getting rid of the
dead plant/animal material.
MO>it is not an industry.people do not make a living murdering
MO>insects.
I have to disagree w/ that one...Black Flag: "We kill bugs dead." If
that's not an industry making a living killing bugs..I dunno what is :)
MO>at least a bug has the ability to fly away or hide.
According to the Orkin Man...they can find any bug :)
MO>people don't
MO>go out in the woods with a pistol hunting for bugs.
Not in that sense..I have heard stories about ppl going into the
rainforests to capture exotic butterflies for $$$ for collectors. What
person hasn't scoured the earth for insects to display in a science
report(I know I did).
Now..I realize no one can be perfect...We all will kill something..in
some way..no matter how careful we are(by sending email back and
forth..I bet we're killing something)..As long as you're making a
change in some way...that's better than doing nothing at all...
BTW..Xaq...gf's the same way..but instead of stepping on it..find
someone(like me) to scoop up the spider and set it free :)

Contrary to some others, I do think a mammal is worth more than an insect,
simply because it most likely has a higher degree of consciousness, and
therefore can suffer or be happy to a much greater extent. But that doesn't
mean insects are valueless! If you have the possibility to let an insect
live instead of killing it, why not let it live? If there's a fly in my
room I'd rather let it out than kill it. Perhaps I'm just imagining, but I
get happy just by thinking about how glad the little fly becomes when it
flies out of the window. That's one of the best things in life, to be able
to make other beings happy -- whether humans or animals. Love towards all
beings is not only the best way to strive for a better world, it is also a
key factor in becoming happy oneself.
All the best,
Johan.

There will always (unfortunately) be situations to which there are no
solutions that will make everybody happy.
There is also a human urge for survival, which in many cases makes us act
egoistically. This is just human and there is little we can do about it.
Sorry to be off the topic...

Johan.

my last comment on this (i promise)
> should we have just let hitler kill all the jews?
first off... what hitler did was not murder.. it was genocide.. genocide
according to the book.. and i wont go into the desecration of bodies or
the robbery (damn that so called "neutral" Switzerland!).. anyway.. this
would be the equivilant of say.. killing and eating only cows (selective
carnivore?).. also i would like to point out that almost all (hopefully)
people that eat meat.. also eat plants.. so they are not carnivores..
they are omnivores.. no i am not debating that the process of slaughter
is almost always digusting.. thsi is why i almost always eat either
organic or kosher meat.. organic meat is raised (for cows) is alowed to
roam free on fields (like dairy cows) until their day has come...
kosher meat is a process of slaughter.. the animal is examined.. if it
is thought it would die in a year of natural causes it is not
slautered.. if it has any defects.. it is not slaughtered.. then it is
slaughtered in the presence of a rabbi.. if the animal suffers in
anyway.. it is not kosher.. then the body is examined.. if there are any
defects or any signs the animal would have died within a year it is not
used for kosher meat.. then the meat is process fast and effiently in
the precence of a rabbi so that no "fillers" or extra parts are thrown
in (as is common with non-kosher say hot dogs or ground meat).. i do not
keep kosher (but i am jewish by birth) but i find that the kosher way
has many benefits.. if anyone wants more explaination or has questions
they can ask me private..

Thanks DJ TRIPP... I was just about to write and see if anyone had any
new word as to what's going on for the SF show. I was really looking
forward to going but I'm starting to think that the whole thing might be

Actually, since Moby is so outspoken in his beliefs about environmentalism,
vegitarianism and Christianity, and devotes lengthy essays about them in
his album liner notes, a discussion about Moby and his music should
naturally, I think, include a discussion of these topics.

like i said before, moby is 50% music and 50% activist. i think this list

i agree. i'd rather read long threads about a moby-related
topic than have no mail at all. this list is generally pretty
light on bandwith, and i don't really see anything wrong with
discussing the issues that moby brings up on his album inserts.
as long as the discussions stay within bounds and people don't
start using the list to send personal messages back and forth,
i'm all for it.

Here's my take:
I enjoyed the conversation that took place between list members. It's
part of the reason why I didn't pipe up. However, the main goal of the
list is to talk about Moby. Maybe now is a good time to lay the topic
to rest (that is if it doesn't refer back to Moby in some direct way).

So, am I the only one going to the Chicago show? It is THIS
WED!!!!!YEAH!!!!!! Also, Aphex Twin is coming here with the Sneaker Pimps.
WORD UP!!!!! Also, there is another tour (Electirc Highway) coming through
here with Fluke, Crystal Method, Skylab, Ken Ischii (who is also opening for
DAFT PUNK (THEY FUCKIN' RULE) at the Metro Sept. 6). I can't wait for Moby,
Joey Beltram, 808 State and BT (and SEVEN other bands) on Wed. Anyone that
cannot go to the Big Top shows I will pick up a Moby shirt if anyone wants.
Here in Chicago I can't find any Moby shirts so I will probably buy everyone
at the concert. Peace out!!!

It has a live track by Moby that I have never heard before. Anyone hear this
song live? It sounds awesome! I'd love an MP3 of it. Makes me really want to
see his performance at the Big Top tour. Hopefully he'll play some dance
music!
We still don't know what type of music he'll play on the Big Top do we?

Oh man, NS 4.02 won't play the thing.
Has to be NS 3.0 or something else.

I don't have RA -- is this the techno track "I Need You" (Moby gave the
name in a web chat) with samples such as "I need you" and "I will love only
you"?

I'm using 4.02.. did you try just clicking on the 28.8 or ISDN link to listen
to the song directly? I couldn't get the mix to work (where you checkmark
which song you want to hear)...

Doesn't exactly sound like anything, but I guess the high pitched voice could
be saying "I will only love you". It is a very cool techno track. I don't
know what to compare it to. I'd love to hear this one in concert. Oh man.. it

Okay, I'm a geek. I tried checkmarking it and that wouldn't work. I
didn't realize you could just click on the text "28.8" or "ISDN" (wish I

Is this a sure thing? I've heard rumors that it's been delayed to
October 7. This would make more sense considering the recent release of
"Everything Is Wrong". Also, the album is suppose to include the remake
of the James Bond theme but the movie isn't due until December.

Well on this whole vegetarian issue. I'm Muslim so I only eat Halal
(similar to Kosher for Jewish people) meat. Basically when you kill
animals in Islam there is no prolonging of the death so the animal feels
no pain. We aren't allowed to inject hormones into animals or mistreat
them. In fact there are a lot of stories about how people save just one
animal from mistreatment and they go to heaven. My dad wouldn't even
declaw our cat because he thought it was inhumane. Anyways its really
hard to Halal meat where I live so I'm stuck eating veggies anyway. So
that's all I had to say.

hi moby fans,i've just subscribed to the list.I've been a massive fan for a few
years now and cannot remember my first moby experience.I will, however, never
forget the two performances i have seen.
The first was at the felie festival in ireland in 1995 where he completly blew
everyone away, even my friends who were not very interested in moby. His set was
mostly top techno from 'go' to 'feeling so real'.
The second time was last october on his animal rights tour. The venue was very
small which made it better.Free CD at the door of live stuff was just the start
of it.He played most of animal rights and many tracks off 'everything is wrong'
on guitar which were absolutly amazing. At one stage someone from the (small)
crowd jumped on stage and started dancing. As he was being trailed towards the
door by the doormen,Moby stopped playing and stopped the band and pleaded with
them to let him back in,which they did. What a star!!!

pward,
hi, welcum to the moby list! as for EoE, it is a very mellow
ambient album with simple percussion. very much like the 2nd disk
"little idiot" of animal rights UK version if you are familiar, but
more technoey because of the beats. it is a great album, and if you
like any of moby's stuff (which you do) you will love it.
well worth it.

Folks!
If your birthday is 26th of august and ALL of Mobies new stuff is released
on that date,
you get a little nurvous, everytime that date arrives...
BUT,
no James Bond Theme here in Holland!
It was a nice Score anyway!
Because now I have Tripomatic fairy Tales 2002!!!!
If you have TFT 2001, you understand how happy I am!
If you EVER can lay hands on a title named 'NASA Nocturnal' - don't hesitate!
It's 'Stella' in an airplane!
It was a great birthday though,
I have TWO (2) new FZappa - items, which nobody has!
In fact, they are pretty old! Denver 1966-concert PLUS Fullerton 1968, both
SUPER-great!
PLUS++++ a great single cd (7 items) of Deep Forest, with (take a seat
please): one song remixed by Jam El Mar (of all those known)
Deep Forest is only ONE Song on seventeen cd's I suppose, but that One Song
is SO Deep into the Forest, you get a wooden head from it! LISTEN!
Deep Forest is making Techno into Environmental (huhn? ...mental?)
If everybody was into MUSIC, there wouldn't be no war at all!

ahh.. what i meant was.. well rip van winkle's this guy who went to sleep
and woke up like 200 years later or something.. actually im not sure how
long it was.. but he woke up and everything had changed, he'd missed his
whole life..
and i think it was damien (?) who said "everything is wrong" is coming
out soon.. so i wondered if perhaps he'd gone to sleep awhile.. just a

Yeah it's true and yes, it's only a SHORT cameo. It's not worth
watching the movie for. The movie isn't so bad but still a waste of
time if your expecting anything special in seeing Moby. I think he

Well, let's just say I had the best time of my life. All together there were
13 acts. The best was Moby (of course), BT, Eat Static, and Roswell, in that
order. Top DJ were Joey Beltram and Jamie Smart (I think that was his name).
Anyway, I got there at 8:15 (show started at 8) and some band just got on.
They had a okay new Prodigy sound. So, I'm looking around and I see Moby
near the back watching the band. I say to my friend, "That's Moby!" As I
look back he was gone. I was like, "FUCK!" But as I look around here he is
coming right at me. He was going behind me where there was the backstage
door. I was like, "You're Moby right? Could you sign my ticket???" I
whipped out my stub and my trusty purple marker. He said, "No problem," and
started drawing on the back of the stub. I asked him if he was going to play
any AR stuff and he replied, "Since this is an electronic show, I'm gonna
play old stuff." I then said "Could you play AH AH for me?" He said, "Sure,
I'll play it first, okay?" I was like, "Thanks, I love all your work, I have
like 30 of your CD's." He responded, "30??" I said, "Yeah, with all the
Voodoo Child and Trophy stuff." He said, "shhhh. That's not me," and gave
me a smile. He extended his hand and said, "Enjoy the rest of the show." I
shook it and said goodbye. As for the set list:
AH AH
Bring Back my Happiness (Extended Mix)
Move (Disco Threat Mix) EXACTLY LIKE EIW REMIXED 2XCD AWESOME
Unreleased song (Same as that web site song someone mentioned a while ago,
what is the name of it??? He intro'd as, "Here's an unreleased song. Don't
you hate it when you go see somebody you know and he plays stuff you don't
know?")
The NEW James Bond Song (GREAT! He intro'd it as, "Here is the first song on
my new album.")
Go
Why Can't it Stop? (He intro'd it as, "Here is another unreleased song.
We're going to play it because we like to." BTW this is a Lopez song if
nobody can remember the name)
Next is the E (Club Mix or I feel It. Same mix)
Feeling So Real
He had 2 banners of the old Moby symbol on either side of the stage. I felt
like it was 1995 and I never heard of AR. I do like AR, but it's better to
dance to his old stuff. I HIGHLY recommend going if you can to the show.
They had 2 different shirts. They had a short sleeve 80's style white with
dark blue bands around the neck and armholes that said Moby on the front and
the old symbol. They also had the new shirt for I like to Score. It is
white with ten circles lined up 5 by2 on the front and all the circles are
tan in color except the 1st, 7th and 9th (going left to right top to bottom.)
are pink. Reminds me of Dunkin Donuts. It says Moby I like to Score in
black. They cost 20. That is about it. I'm sorry this is so detailed but
I wrote down everything I could after the set. Also, as for instruments, it
sounded like the songs were played through the speakers using records and
Moby & co. used drum kits, bongos, guitars and drums to play along. Moby can
rock on bongos BTW.

Well, 6 months after its release, I got my C Notes promotional copy of
Moby's _Animal Rights_. *One* of the *2* CDs I was promised by C Notes for
putting the appropriate Moby link on a web page. No note; no apology; no
explanation or anything else. I don't really need 2 copies of this CD,
especially since I've had the proper UK version of this for quite some time.
The gist of this is: don't bother with C Notes. If they can't stand by
their promises, they're not worth any of your trouble. I would hope that
Elektra is rather unhappy with this situation.

Okay I hope this will answer all questions. He did have a keyboard and
played along with some songs. He had a bassist, a drummer and a percussion
man on stage with him. I missed the AR concert so I am not sure if it is the
same. The concert ended at around 4 a.m. Started at 8 p.m. No moshing at
all, just a lot of good dancing. I was right in front of the stage He
stagedove into the crowd and we were all floating him and he was grabbing
everybody hands. The crowd was about 200.

WHOA!! 200? That is NOT a lot of people at all! I would believe 2000 would
be more like it (and I would think *that* would be too small). I don't know
how many people went to Organic '96, but I'm envisioning something like that...

hey there!
i just saw big top in cleveland.it was amazing.there were about
600 people there.if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me.i don't
want to give set lists out,or go into a long description of the
show.because i like to be surprised when i see a show,and i don't want to
spoil it for anyone.
moby's performance was great even though half of it was moby
trying to fix the sound problems.there were quite a few technical
difficulties.infact,at one point moby got upset and started kicking the
equipment.the strange thing about the show was seeing moby without a
guitar.in all the other shows i have seen him in he mixes all of his
different styles into one show.but this was all techno.
i also met moby again.every moby cancert i have seen,i have had
some sort of physical contact with him.the first time i saw him in 95' i
touched his ass because he jumped into my arms.the second time i saw him,
he pulled me up onstage to dance.that was great!moby and i looking out at
20,000 poeple.he kissed me that day too.and now i met him at big
top.after the show i was standing around with my two friends,i turned
around and moby was right behind me.i wasn't gonna go over and see him
because there were a lot of people crowding around him and i didn't want
to bother him.but my friend made me go.so,i went up to him and told him i
think he is amazing, and the show sounded great.then he started drawing a
picture on my ticket stub.and i told him that i danced with him at
endfest.he looked at me and his eyes lit up,and he said right, yeah.then
he leaned over and whispered in my ear and said thanks for dancing with
me.and i just told him he was great, and cleared away so that everyone
could talk to him.wow!he is such a great man!

There is nothing special about the C Notes CD of AR... it's just as if
you bought it at the store. It's not even marked or labeled as a
promo. What was suppose to be good was that C Notes promised to provide
TWO free copies of the US AR if you provided a link to the Elektra Moby
web page. Well, many people provided the link and after a _long_ five
months of nothing... ONE cd arrived with no word as to why it took so
long or why only one CD arrived.
So anyway...

sadly, no.
the guy who was in charge of it (mark gluth aka white rat)
mysteriously disappeared. we were sort of net buddies, and one

i still think this is a good idea though. if anybody else would like to

enuff things going on right now, i just wouldn't have the time.
anyone?
oh, and for anyone who is new, the project was like this:
anyone on the mobility list who made music and who wanted to
contribute was going to put together a tape of covers of moby's
songs, then give it to him for christmas as a gift.
i know i did two songs, and i think a few other people did also.
it's a good idea.
