i actually think cribs isn't really that terrible... i
think it's nice to see pop stars as normal human
beings sometimes... and i also think its really cool
that the guy from outkast has a microphone hooked up
in his SHOWER ;) ... hey, it's better than Jackass or
Tom Green, right? ;P
I can't wait to see what Moby's house looks like.
Isn't this also the house the Beastie Boys recorded
their last album in, or something?
And where Cat Power used to rehearse in? :) Or maybe
thats some other house he used to live in...
anyway

<P>Um, this is probably the best place to start. I'm strting to really lean towards songs such as First Cool Hive, the Summer Wind mix of Into The Blue, Flying Foxes, and the David Clarke mix of Run On. basicly the slow, laid back feel. It's a simple almost lounge feel. What I'm wondering is, what are any other artist's that perform with this same feel? Any help would be great.<BR></P></DIV>

but its back now.
i noticed something. i used to type a million messages

responded to most of them. now, whenever i post
something, i get all these sarcastic responses.
coincidentally, i don't post as much. but that's
becuase i don't listen to moby as much. he is
definitley mainstream now, and i'm not a mainstream
person.
but don't worry, i'm not gonig to make like ryu and
xaq and go all "moby sucks cause he's famous now!
MEDIA WHORE!!!!!!!!!" on yr asses. i'll love moby til
the day i die. but i'm not listening to him now.
actually, the only moby song i've been listening to is
drown disco. it's growing on me. it's incomplete, and
its minimal, but its pretty good.

well, i think moby is mainstream now, i mean the kids
at school recognize him. he's on mtv. he's on the
charts. which is all very good, I very much respect
him and all, and I hope he becomes bigger than madonna
someday (heehee, yes that was sarcastic ;)
but, i do feel he is part of the mainstream
consciousness now. i've stopped listening to him for
the most part cause i've heard his music so much. but
that doesn't mean its bad music. i still think play is
a great album.... i just can't listen to it now, its
like the chemical brothers of prodigy albums. they
sounded totally cool when they came out, but they got
old. but last time i listened to them (which was about
a year or so ago, i'm going thru my annual listening
of everything in my collection, so i'll get to them
soon again), i thought they were great, i hadn't heard
them in a while, and it was like some sort of
nostalgia. that's what play is like. in a few years,
i'll be able to listen to it and not be sick of it.
now, i can't listen to it. but it still is a great
album, i'm not denying that, and i'm still rooting for
him all the way. meanwhile, there's other things to
listen to.
sorry if that sounded a lil' harsh.... ;)
just remember, i still love moby, and i always will.
and i'm not saying all mainstream music has to suck,
by definition...... it just does, for the most part.
kids are into predictable, polished, happy pop tunes,
cause that's what sells. however, a band like Outkast
will ocasionally come along and do something radical
sounding, and it'll work. christ, listen to the BEATS
in 'ms jackson'! can you believe that shit is number 2
on the charts? and rising?
i'll also say that rap-rock hybrid music could also be
good, but very much more often than not, sucks. i
mean, there's lots of great rap music, and lots of
great loud, hard guitar music, right? so you'd think
somehow it would be easy to combine them. but more
often than not, they just don't work together. but
there is some great rap-rock stuff, i mean it was
started by Run DMC and stuff. and you can't argue with
the Beasties (and if you can, you SUCK. ;) And even
listen to the Judgment Night soundtrack. Not all of it
is great, but Sonic Youth and Cypress Hill kick ass,
as do Del The Funky Homosapien and Dinosaur Jr.
BUT Moby is neither rap nor metal so.......... I'll
shut the fuck up!
ROCK!

Okay so maybe I'm already feeling all lovey-dovey cause it's one of those rare years when I have someone for Valentine's.
But as for info-packed emails like DJPaul's, I TOTALLY read them. Even when I erase massive amounts of mobility email (like after a trip) I keep yours. It's like the newsletter I get from mobility or something. I just usually don't know how else to respond than thanks. So I'm thanking you now!
Also, I love when people post their top 20 albums or recommend an artist. I totally save those emails so I can check those artists out. Like right now, thanks to someone on here, I'm all balistically into the Avalanches from Australia - a group I would've otherwise not heard of ever or not for a few more years. So thanks a million to that Mobyhead for sharing!
Last of all, thanks to mobility, 'cause that's where I found my current Valentine (haha, mobility as matchmaking service? uh....no!). So I guess thanks to Moby, specially for playing at Coachella where we met...
Oh!!!!! I'm all verklempt (spelling?) now...

spears. that's fine with me. i don't have to listen to
that.
look at this! "ms jackson" by outkast is number 1 this
week! #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so, hey, one of my
favorite songs right now is number 1, in america, on
the billboard hot 100 pop charts. so, hey, i'm not
blasting that! there's proof that, indeed, good songs
can hit #1...... even if every other song in the top
10 is total shit. (i HATE that shaggy song.... well,
anything by him really.... and i hate when people
think that's reggae... but anyway)
um oh yeah south side is still #30 on the charts......
hopefully we're still going to climb up the charts a
little more....
so, yeah, there's some hope for pop music :) of course
if gwen wasn't on the song, would it be this huge?
whatever, let's not think about that.
it's not letting me access the album charts right
now..... but on the "modern" "rock " charts its number
7, up from 9.... and one place ahead of it (both
weeks) is coldplay! woohoo!
and about the moby girl tshirts, badly drawn boy did
something like that, there's some "badly drawn girl"
t-shirts out there. i coulda won one of em from my man
frank at starpolish, but i chose the "boy" t-shirt
instead ;)
anyway

something tells me the reason why he makes great music is because of the fact

I was just thinking about that as I'm going to see the Black Eyed Peas tonight. I also like The Roots and Mos Def and Common..and old skool like Biz Markie and De La Soul and Slick Rick and the like. you think Moby ever listens to that sort of thing? I can imagine him busting a move to "joints and jams"..haha

well, i think money corrupting moby is a legit and
reasonable opinion........
i mean, collaborating with gwen stefani? uh......
but, well, its cause he wants fans. he wants his music
heard. and, yeah, ultimately, he wants money. i mean
how else is he going to pay for all that vegan food
and keep his head waxed? he couldnt do that if he was
a dirt poor pauper :)
i think he deserves it. he deserves his fame, his
money, his popularity. we may never see the moby of Go
fame, but oh well. thats just how it goes.
however, Keiichi, you don't have to swear that much :)
i mean, i'm not saying you should never swear, the 1st
amendment is a gift etc., but all that swearing just
pisses people off unnecesarily. i'm not saying i never
swear either, i mean fuck look at the archives (better
yet DON'T) i've had a million temper tantrums here :)
in fact, i was listening to Blur's Bustin + Dronin
last night and it reminded me of a time i started
yelling at bart for near no reason.............. i'm
surprised he'll even read my messages now :) and i
also started the Puff Daddy argument 3 years ago ;P
um......
but basically the message here is, Keiichi, chill out
man. don't say "fuck you" all the time, don't put it
in a subject heading, and well don't yell at people
that much :) i'm not putting you down at all, i've
done this shit before, and i learned that its stupid.
and sorry if i sound like yr mother or father nagging
you or something :P

"hot bodies"? wtf?
its cool that radiohead and moby won, whatever it

my sister said the episode of cribs w/ moby was on....
but she missed it. i didnt see it either.
moby loves hip hop. he always says so. lots of
commercial stuf tho...... jay z and crap. oh well.
sorry to bug people but, i've never liked the chili
peppers. i aint saying they can't play, they can't
write songs, etc. i'll even not say that anthony isn't
sexy (strictly out of respect for people that think he
is, hehe... nevermind i have no clue where i'm going
with this ;) but well i just cant stand most of their
music. i just think its lame. sorry.
me happy. i got a badly drawn boy tshirt and a beggars

<Plus, and I say this speaking for gay men everywhere,
she's
a hottie.>
I say: no comment ;P
Chris said:
a bunch of stuff.
I say: CHILL OUT. Sorry, but you seem angered by my
juvenile comments. Maybe you aren't but I'm NEVER mad.
While that is a lie, when I post stuff like that I'm
not. or something, anyway
<If No Doubt wasn't famous at all, if they were still
playing local
clubs and
never got a huge recording contract would you make
this same complaint? >
No. But then, she probly wouldnt be collabing w/ moby.
I like ND actually, Tragic Kingdom was pretty good, so
was their 1st album. and that rarities one. even the
new one had like a good song on it or something.
But I don't like her vocals on South Side.
<If
not, then your criticism is based soley on the fact
that she is
popular,
which is completely assanine. As others have pointed
out, her vocals,
though in my personal opinion are not great, are much
better than
Moby's--he's admitted so much on several occasions.
He's not a singer,
or
at least a good singer (that's perhaps why he does it
so rarely). >
I agree with that. but just cause gwen is known as a
singer and moby is not, doesnt mean she makes the song
better than moby's album version.
And hey, Moby's popular. and he was popular before
play, just not TRL popular.
And I just want to remind you again that one of my
favorite songs of the moment is number 1 on the
charts, right now. so i'm not hating everything just
cause its popular. i just don't like the gwen version
of south side cause... it just isnt good!
< In
an MTV
120 minutes interview once he also said that he would
love to
collaborate,
well, actually utilize Christina Agulliera's vocals on
a track. He
made it
clear that he wasn't too keen on her music, but that
she has a great
voice,
which she does. Would this make you think any less of
him if he did? >
Nah. I wouldn't have to listen to it.
<Ask
yourself WHY. >
Okay. WHY are you asking these dumb questions?!?!? ;P
< It wouldn't be her writing the songs, just her
voice--this
still represents PURE moby, his talent, his
instruments, HIS
arrangement.>
what if she DID right the songs, and the arrangements
and junk?
Okay I just said that to bust yr balls or something.
I'm not taking any of this seriously, let me remind
you :)
<As for money corrupting him, I don't even think any
of us are in a
position
to claim that at all. Do YOU know the specifics of
his contract? Do >
Bla bla bla bla bla yackety schmackety. :)
<Wow, he WAXES his head? I'd really like to know how
to do that, I
could use
a shine.>
Actually, he goes to the bowling alley and sticks it
in the Shine-O-Ball-O :P
> i think he deserves it. he deserves his fame, his
> money, his popularity. we may never see the moby of
Go
> fame, but oh well. thats just how it goes.
<Just how is he different?>
Easy. None of his music now sounds like Go. He doesnt
make strictly dance tracks.
He may be as friendly or whatever as he was before,
but musically, he's different.
<People, I've been on this fucking list for over 3
years now. A lot of
us
have been on here for a long time. When this list is
good its fucking
spectacular, enlightening discussion, a free exchange
of Moby
information,
etc... But when it gets bad, people on here are the
stupidest fucks on
the
planet(no one in particular, so no personal offense
here). If this
shit
keeps up, I honestly can't see the sense in staying on
this list. I
think
I'm beginning to understand that little schism that
started with the
offshoot list a while back.>
Fine. Bye. I like it here.

Subject: (mobility) responding to keiichi and dj pagan
Date: 14 Feb 2001 06:59:15 -0800 (PST)
first off:
Keiichi, I accept yr apology, even if chris doesn't ;P
I know some people who swear like they use the word
"the" so it doesnt bother me that much...
But it bothers some people. Hey, it happens.
As for Moby doing an all dance album again,,,, well,
only time will tell. I think it's possible, but I'm
not counting on it.
I only heard that MOBY was an acronym for Master Of
Beats Y'all last year when my dad told me it, when he
read the Spin cover story. I'd heard him say in
interviews that it was because of, you know, the
Herman Melville relation.
I have no problem with him doing non-dance stuff, as
long as it's GOOD..... and I'm glad he goes outside
the norm in cases like AR or the ambient stuff....
nevertheless, I kinda wish he'd revisit his Go days or
something...
Also, nothing is wrong with collaborating itself...
its just that, well, his song with Gwen didn't make
the song better, and I'm assuming that the song with
Kelis sucked too. Hey, he collaborated with Tarquin
Katis and Paul Yates in the Pork Guys, and I ain't
complainin bout dat! ;P
As for Santana, well I didn't see him live (I wanted
to but it cost too much money for me ;) but I've heard
that all he plays is mostly Supernatural stuff, and
like a few songs from Abraxas. Which is nice, but,
well, a few years ago, his shows would've been better
cause people didnt expect all those popular songs.
If people go to a Moby show now expecting South Side,
fine. I hope he plays it and people have a good time.
DJ Pagan: while I love indie rock like I love... I
don't know, good food or something, (and fittingly I'm
wearing my Badly Drawn Boy tshirt ;) ... as I said,
not all mainstream music has to suck... it just does.
I don't consider myself an indie elitist cause I'm
into all sorts of music. Its just that most of the
popular music I listen to is not of this era. Most
music of this era I listen to is not popular. Simple
as that. I'm open to all good music, its just that
most of it is not mainstream, and/or not recent. As
I've said a million times, Outkast is an exception for
me.
Of course, Outkast sort of have indie cred somehow
(the album hit #4 on the CMJ charts!!!!) but well I
still consider them mainstream. And I still consider
them good.

<DIV>I joined this list a few years ago, when Titanic was in theatres. I remember this because I was upbraided for dismissing the movie as crap without having watched it. I allowed that my judgement was unfair, and then the fun began.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I still haven't watched that movie. I still refuse. However, I'll reserve my judgements this time.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>At the time, there was still a bit of disagreement over the whole Animal Rights shocker. People on the list were familiar with each other, as it had been a small group that had been writing together for a while. The big difference in the list between then and now is, I think, that everybody present wanted to be there. I mean this in the sense that Moby was not famous yet, and just had an unusual reputation in certain cirles. So the people on the list had found Moby and taken a special effort to learn and listen more about him. Nowadays, the average Moby fan is a casual fan, not a musical seeker or explorer.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>(disclaimer sadly necessary nowadays: I am not judging here, merely observing. No bile spewing reflexes need activate.)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I used to write a lot to the list. I wrote about hearing Moby in public, which then was very rare and unusual, I wrote about hearing him at raves, playing his music for my family, concert experiences, and I posted interview links and news articles. I reviewed a few 12" records, including some of the Trophy line. I reread the reviews about six months ago, and my descriptions were clumsy and my musical vocabulary limited, especially in regard to dance music. Go read the Brotherhood review at moby.org for the worst example. The rest are floating through the archives somewhere.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I also used to post long list of sales. I used to buy Moby records almost compulsively, so I was always searching for something else. I'd find Instinct vinyl, weird Elektra promos, and so forth, and I would post these massive lists of records and where to buy them. I eventually stopped when I realized almost nobody was paying attention or buying from my links. I think I was the one that made Action Records popular on this list, but Brad C. may have already known about the store before I started posting the link. They had shirts and videos, too, and I always wanted to order from them. I never have.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I got to throw a trivia contest on the list for V2 back in early 1999. Moby signed 10 Honey/Run On singles for the winner. That was a definite highlight for me.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Now I rarely post. In fact, I don't read the list unless the subject line catches my eye or the sender is somebody whose messages I like. (Incidentally, I almost always agree with Chris Bourke. Your messages are a pleasure.) It seems like most of the posts are half-hearted one-liners that are sent merely to be heard, not to say anything.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I don't know about you, but before I hit the Send button, I ask myself "Why am I writing/sending this?" Especially if it's going to a list of people.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>This time, I don't know the answer. But I know this is better than most, and that's good enough for me.</DIV>

<P>Thanks for your kind words, Bart, I appreciate it! :)<J.VANEYCK@CHELLO.NL></P>
<P>> I saved my entries for the review contest Steve organised once >(Damn, I still regret not accepting the first prize! I haven't found >that record since! Steve do remeber what recordt the first prize >was? :) I'll post those reviews in the next couple of days for old >times sake. </P>
<P>Yeah, it was either a Drop A Beat Instinct 12", or a UHF 12" on XL. If you want either one, I'd be happy to send it off to you. Send me a private email with your address and your preference and I'll get it sorted and sent.</P>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<P>>I got some of my finest Moby items from your links, Go 12" >FOOT15, I Feel It 12" (those I can remember) </P>
<P>Those must have been the very last record lists I posted. I recall doing a last gasp about a year after the bulk of them were posted.</P>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>>10 Honey/Run On singles for the winners. That was a definite >>highlight for me.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>I still look at it every night before I go to sleep :)
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<P>The funny thing was, I didn't get Moby's autograph from the contest. The guy at V2 who I did this with sent me the Honey / Run On promo 12"s, which are still in their manila envelopes with the V2 mailing sticker and all. (opened and played, of course, I'm not that anal) I eventually met Moby in Chicago in 1999, where he autographed my copy of Play and gave me a hug. :)</P>
<P>If anybody is looking for any Moby record in particular, let me know. If there's interest, maybe I'll list some stuff on eBay. I've got just about everything from the very beginning of Moby up through about half of the Play singles. Some of it's duplicate, and some of it I'm happy enough to own on CD. I don't really put on my Moby vinyl very often anymore, and my DJ equipment is in poor shape. I mean it, I have everything. :)</P>

<P>I swear, the kids these days, they're worthless. Have you watched that emm tee vee nonsense they adore so? Short attention span gibberish noise for empty heads. I bet the books they read are only one sentence long. It's a damn shame, it really is. Vapid little bastards. If we'd quashed that freeform poetry hogwash, I bet this never would've happened.</P>
<P>Yeah, one-liners aren't fun to read, because they practically aren't there. It's like turning away from somebody facing you to fart at them.</P>
<P>Speaking of Moby, I put on the Bring Back My Happiness single yesterday and it brought back good memories. It was the first time I'd listened to Moby in three seasons, except for Next Is The E at a party and snippets of South Side with Gwen on the radio. I think I'll dig out my Revolver #2 single tonight. </P>
<P>Last I read Moby was doing romantic polka for his next album, with R&B flourishishes. I know that's probably a tossed line and not at all serious, but is there any news? I haven't been paying any attention.</P>
<P>A long time ago we did this thing where we'd describe what the result would be if we made a music video for Moby. Here's one to start:</P>
<P>Alone</P>
<P>This song is about 10 minutes long, all instrumental, and very gradual in buildup. I would use nature scenes in progression from light to dark, calm to stormy. As the songs builds, the weather becomes worse. The video would gently segue between desert, ocean, jungle, and plains scenes for each phase of the weather buildup, each taking turns at each stage of weather. Near the end, I would try to make lightning bolts strike in time with bass drum that sounds twice at intervals. (maybe every 8, or 16, I can't remember off the top of my head) I could do much the same with tornadoes striking trees, or giant waves breaking on a stormy shore, you get the idea. No people or man-made structures would appear in the video.</P>

<DIV></DIV>>I think it is crazy how there seems to be certain people here who would
<DIV></DIV>>believe that they are the best things to happen to this list since sliced
<DIV></DIV>>bread. Why not lock the list down. No more new list members allowed
<DIV></DIV>>because no one is or could be as cool as those who have been here since time
<DIV></DIV>>began. Sorry, but I hate it when I hear people talk about how great things
<DIV></DIV>>used to be and how they suck now. You sound like my grandparents. If this
<DIV></DIV>>list is so bad, well then See Ya! Don't let the door hit you on the ass on
<DIV></DIV>>the way out! But this is not to say that I particularly like some of the
<DIV></DIV>>stuff that gets posted here. Yes this list has changed. But that is to be
<DIV></DIV>>expected.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<P>Whoa, grab a hold of that knee, it's jerking. There's a difference between us crowning ourselves God and remembering fondly the fun we had on this list. Besides, I'm trying right now to incite some actual content to replace the 7th grade chatroom. </P>
<P>(now I have to explain that I was generalizing and that it's not all like that, for instance, below)</P>
<P>>Anyway, I must say that a re-re-release of Play seems to be a little </P>
<DIV></DIV>>overboard. V2 is taking things way too far. Moves like this are what make
<DIV></DIV>>Napster so appealing. That and the prices of CD's now is getting
<DIV></DIV>>outrageous. Play right now is $22 in the music stores here. So, pay $22
<DIV></DIV>>for the original. $22 for the Play b-sides release. $22 for the next
<DIV></DIV>>release. $66 spent. That is of course if you are the type to buy every
<DIV></DIV>>release. Personally I am not.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Tim
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The sharks need to eat, too. Nobody is forcing you to buy it. Is it cheap and gimmicky? Yes. The easy way to react to this is to simply ignore it. The desire to own each and every last version will only lead you to resent the very music you're trying to enjoy.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>For those that have complained that Moby is a sellout for this, or whatever incident, you should ask yourself this. Why do I listen to Moby? Is it for his music? Is it for his viewpoints and ethics? Is it both? Are the two inseparably entwined? I used to be big on Moby's viewpoints, but now I could care less. I can enjoy his music even if I disagree with him. The relationship between an artist and his audience is intimate, but it's also one-way. You feel close to him. Too many people have this imaginary marriage between themselves and their idol. They hold the idol responsible for upholding their (imagined) mutual point of view, because they have no other external affirmation of their belief or moral. They then feel betrayal when the idol/artist changes their minds, or behaves in a manner that contradicts the (imagined) contract between the artist and fan.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Now I'm just wanking, but I think there's some glimmer of truth in that muddled mess. What about you?</DIV>

Okay, mostly I am replying just to be feisty & poke:
First, I agree with you both - and welcome to you, Alexandra. Sorry the reception wasn't warmer, but it's kind or representative of what can happen here. Be warned. Mobility is often a place of heated passionate debate or immature one-liners just for 'shits n giggles'. And once in a while, something informative.
But like I've said before, thanks to Napster I've gotten to find out about new artists & to make sure they were as amazing as the first song, I'd download more. Then if they were, I'd find out all I could to see them live & what albums were out so I could get the best CDs (since I am very poor), cause it would suck to rip off an artist who I grew to admire highly.
I'll admit, I do feel occasionally guilty about Napster, but I think it's broken down a barrier that will lead to more & we have to get used to it. 8track -> Cassette -> CD -> Napster? After every step you could feel ripped off.
And weren't we just having a (long) discussion about wether $ is corrupting Moby? He's always justified his overexposure in the media with his desire to be known & listened to by as many as possible, not a desire to become filthy rich. Though I do hope he's getting plenty of $, since we've all decided that V2 are the wicked greedy bastards.
Anyway, I think Moby would be all for Napster, unless he's different now. Remember how he was so punk in suggesting that people steal his albums? I guess that was back when he peed in the sushi bar...has Moby done anymore odd things since that "knob touching" thing he'd do at celebrity parties? I'm rammbling, and asking for sensationalism - which is crappy of me...
So to please everyone: Alexandra, steal the Moby CD's of your choice, and tell everyone that you own Moby's "so&so" album. Whatever...
love&cola,
malfunctiongirl
ps: I own 7 Moby CDs + 12 singles (remixes, too) + a record. All paid for with my own $. So I have reason to feel bitter, too, but I'm not *shrug*

Not necessarily.. I've bought so many CD's after downloading an MP3 from a
band, just because I liked the sound... To people with dial up, non-high
speed bandwidth, downloading masses of mp3's is not practical and is usually
done sparingly (least for me).... I rather buy the freakin CD if I like the
general sound and there's a good tune...Spending hours and hours downloading
and then the time burning is just not worth it...

I gave up on the Grammys when I was a teenager and watching the telecasts would make me tremble with rage. They are by far the biggest joke of all the major awards shows. Now I only watch when there's a decent performance scheduled, like Moby's. The rest I try to ignore as the meaningless self-congratulatory tripe it is.

You know, i was a bit nervous myself to see moby up there onstage in front of
all those "important" people...jill scott's voice could not have been more
powerful and the blue man group added a whole new dimension to the song...i
do agree with matt in stating that i wish moby could have had a bti more
exposure during his set...if a person did not know that it's his song, they
could have easily mistaken it for a blue man group piece...
i was in awe when they gave him a standing ovation..i could help but to clap
along and just scream at the top of my lungs in admiration for the set they
did...even my parents loved the idea and the song...overall, best performance
at the grammys...

<DIV>I disagree. I think people like to knock on Eminem more often than they should, because he is such an easy target. Now I'm not saying he's a Moby, but I do think he is a very talented artist whose clever wordplay can't be matched by anyone. He has a style that is uniquely his and I don't think he should be attacked because of it. Anyway, time to step off the soapbox and jump for joy because I found out that my girlfriend taped the show. YEAH! I will get my Moby fix that I so desperatly needed last night, but had to miss due to work. Oh yeah...learn to spell...lol...just kidding.</DIV>

What exactly do you think deleting those mp3's aaccomplished? I'm not gonna make assumptions about your motivations, since I don't know you, but really-- you'd already bought the CD, so what was deleting the files supposed to prove?
>> First off, regarding Napster I NEVER use it for artists I collect, which are many. Moby, Prince, Faithless, Rollo, Pet Shop Boys, etc. I purchase
EVERY release they put out.
I support talent. <<
I agree with the rest of your post, but this to me smacks of self-righteousness. You seem to want us to be impressed into believing you're "better" than people who download entire CD's. Which happens to be a practice I don't agree with either, but come on-- step off your high horse for a minute. The arrogance (or at least what I perceive as such) doesn't enhance your argument one bit. In fact, IMO it detracts from it because it makes your point harder to see amidst the chest-thumping. Again, I don't disagree with your argument, just the manner in which it was presented.
Sorry, folks, I don't mean to start a flame war, but this just rankled me.

I missed the Grammy's, except for Eminem w/Elton - something I still am not sure how to feel about, though I didn't like Elton's style of singing on that (it's coming out as a single though - some proceeds go to MusiCares).
But I've heard Moby's performance on a crackly MP3 & he did sound a bit drowned out. Anyway, he's more there for the music then right? In everyone's comments of him on that night, it just reassures me that there's still a glimpse of humility in him. I just wanna hug him!
Anyway, I also just heard a Sifl & Olly song which is about cats & dogs & cars & trucks & chicks & dudes & monkeys & 10-speeds (they couldn't decide what to sing about). Well, to make this Moby related, as the song starts, the background beats are all "Southside" which cracked me up! Then, of course, they add in their signature Casio melodies into it which made it funnier.
Thanks Rob for that collage, haven't looked at any Moby related art work for a while so that was nice.
And as for that guy's argument for Moby not doing any DJ gigs cause he doesn't mention it in interviews? He usually has to cover the basics in interviews which is the same old thing about MobyDick & his background. Either way, there's always gonna be TONS he doesn't talk about. Sheesh...
love&green tea,
