Hey Sue,
Lighten up a bit! You posted a number of character references that
pointed out flaws of some of our "heroes." May I list a few of my heroes
(and their character references) for you?
Let's see, I think I'll start with a famous murderer ... he was a rich
man, a ruler, a king in fact. He was married, but found a woman he had to
have. After an adulterous affair, she was found to be pregnant. When he
couldn't persuade her husband to come home from the war to be with his wife,
(thus covering up his indiscretion) he had the man killed. Sound familiar?
His name is King David, you know the one from the bible. The one God called,
"a man after His own heart." How about a few others, like: Moses, Paul or
even Peter. Two of the three were murderers, but I believe that all four of
the "scoundrels" that I mentioned are in heaven.
I don't mean to "whip a dead horse" here, but my point is this. Is any
one of us perfect? No. Does that mean we shouldn't strive towards something
better? Absolutely not! Gretchen, if I read her post right, was simply
asking Ned to watch his language a bit. because, as I have no doubt, there
are some "children" that read these postings. If I didn't read it right,
then I offer my apologies.
To the others on this list, my apologies for the length of this post.
You know that when you get a sliver, if you don't get it out it will just sit
there and fester. The sliver is out.

At a horse sale last night and the exotic sales was still being talked about.
A friend bought a buffalo calf. Talked to at least three people who were at
the exotic sale also. All of use were surprised at the prices. Example:
Cow and calf entered ring. The split the pair selling each separate. The
calf brought more than the cow. Didn't see this one but was told about it by
three others. The friend who bought the heifer calf (not the same calf )
paid $300.00. The price of elk at this sale for mature elk started at about
$600.00. I admit it was a strange sale but in one way or another every
exotic sale I've be to is a little strange in one way or another

Thank You Don Secondine in the Ohio Country, far to often lately I have felt the urge to Unsubscribe due to the derth of egos and pointed sarcasm and the lack of historical research it creates. We all have feelings and we all have egos and opinions but my mother taught me to be polite, considerate. A buisness associate of mine once told me that any time someone got you really mad and you wanted to yell at them, write them a letter, print it out, set it aside until tomarrow, then read it, crumble it up and throw it away. It has served him well in business and life for 70+ years and it can be made to work for all of us. Lets stick to the Hobby and the History and leave the knives it the belt.

I have to admit that much of what is done or discussed among the AMM
group is not of huge interest to me, except of course when my husband
comes home bragging that he ate Buffalo testicles, especially after Sue
Raven writes, "Christian Bill Williams even ate his partner one winter,"
which makes me extremely nervous as to what my husband is going to do
next. <g>
As a small child, my father, who grew up on Lapwai road in Culdesac,
Idaho, told me many magical stories of the Nez Perce Indians. He wove
for me a world of savagery and wilderness, a people full of love and
life, inspiring wanderlust and romanticism in my young heart. During
college, I did a research paper on the Nez Perce, focusing specifically
on an aged Brave who fought with Chief Joseph that my father grew up
around whose Christian name was John Green. His Indian name was
Wai-Lim-Lex. My father described him as a "gentle man with long grey
hair... wore no shoes but deer hides that were wrapped around his feet
and then all the way up to his knees... crisscrossed with leather
straps... and wore a wide black felt hat that he was very proud of." My
father said that John always seemed to be laughing and would hide in the
bushes along the road as the kids would walk to school, jumping out to
scare them. My uncle tells it a little different, saying that John
would try and make eye contact with you while hiding in the bushes to
see if you were paying attention to your surroundings. Apparently John
ate with my father's family a lot, and when he had enough to eat, he
would turn his plate and cup over. One of my father's favorite stories
about John was when one of the horses that my dad's family owned would
get out, none of them were able to catch it. John would come along
chanting to the horse, sometimes for hours until he was able to walk
right up to the horse and put a "hakama" on it and lead it to the barn
for them. "John didn't go to church on Sunday and of course we kids
thought this very strange since we thought that everyone went to church,
so we asked him why he didn't go to church and he replied that, 'White
man kill my brothers. White man kill my sisters. White man disgrace my
mother. I no go to white man's church.'"
Anyway, after that extremely long introduction, I would like to know if
anyone out there would have information or tidbits for me regarding the
Nez Perce and their culture. If anyone is knowledgeable about Nez Perce
language, I would like to know what Wai-Lim-Lex means. On a side note,
as an English major I would like to know more about the origins of "Your
Most Obedient Servant", specifically if this was a typical ending for
letters in a time period or if it was contained to a specific group like
the Mountain Men.
And on a final note, I want it known that I am not nor ever have been an
ERA advocate. <g>
Thank you
Gretchen H. Ormond
