I don't have an exact date, but Indians were castrating large numbers of =
their horses probably by the mid to late 1700s. In Ewers' book, The =
Horse in Blackfoot Indian Culture, there is a good description of =
castration page 56-57.
I saw my first Spanish Barb horses in Texas a month ago while doing the =
research for my article. It was a real treat to see them.

James also went on to say that the Indians drove the herd of wild horses by
hidden Indians on the ground, and that they roped them around the neck as
they run by. Ask your brother what he thinks about roping a wild horse
around the neck while it is running away from you, and then having it tame
and ready for use in 24 hours, 24 days, or in the vast majority of cases,
240 days.
