  60. With all of the talk about getting material for arrows
  61. and so on, Ive wondered if any of you have decided to
  62. landscape or garden with plants that can be used for
  63. arrows, dyes, etc.  I know that those of you in the
  64. intermountain west are going to find it hard to grow 
  65. certain things, but a little research and some
  66. properly placed questions will yeild species that
  67. occur naturally in a similar climate throughout the
  68. world.  I personally grow herbs and so on since I live
  69. in an apartment, but my future homes landscaping will
  70. certainly include an odd assortment of bamboo, grasses
  71. for weaving, willow and other plants for making
  72. baskets and so on.  Maybe I'll get some dwarf buffalo
  73. to raise in the back yard as well <BG>

  89. I have planted bamboo in three locations in the back.  Hopefully it will
  90. reach 14' in a few years and will give me an endless supply of arrow shafts

  243. Yep. Planted osage, red mulberry, and pecan trees for bow wood, 
  244. Arrowwood Viburnum for arrers, Jerusalem artichokes to eat, white 
  245. pine for tea, and a few other assorted things for future study.  
  246.  
  247. My woods are full of aromatic sumac for lemonade, an overgrown field 
  248. full of black berries and sasafrass.
  249.  
  250. Lots of good stuff to keep me busy for a while.

  289. I would imagine he was carrying two guns, one in each hand as to not be
  290. visible (at least one of them) above the level of the grass or willows which
  291. came waist high or so. As has been suggested, he squeezed one between his
  292. legs so as not to lay it down, took a shot with the other gun, dropped it
  293. and retrieved the second gun from between his legs and brought it to his
  294. shoulder for a second shot which he didn't take since the Indian ran off
  295. through the fairly tall plant material they were all walking in.

  337. A belated Happy Memorial Day to all of our Vets; on the list and off.  My 
  338. father is retired Navy-- '56 thru '75.  Although I was just a wee lad when  
  339. Nam was going on I was painfully aware of my heritage as an american.  We 
  340. were stationed in Japan from  69 to 74, I was 10yrs old when we left there.  
  341. Our armed forces have always filled me with pride.   Again, Thanks to all of 
  342. you who served this great country of ours, and God Bless.

  382. Hi Wynn, if you will look back at the orginal posts to your question.  You
  383. will see where I was the one who first pointed it out.  Friend John provided
  384. additional support.  I think in response.  To the I picture post that
  385. followed mine and proceeded John's response.   John and I were on another
  386. list together for quite a while.  He comes out and across with some really
  387. good stuff when something sparks his interest.  All I caught was your
  388. question and that was the way I worked it out in my head.  But I could have
  389. been wrong because dropping to one knee as written.  Is a good reliable
  390. steady shooting postion.  I was taught the classic four shooting postions
  391. more than 50 years ago.  I worked it down to....Except fact it would have
  392. been quicker for me to have handled placing one between my knees which I
  393. have done before.  Your question:  How come I couldn't figure that one out?
  394. Is one of the best parts of this ML list.  Sharing information in a good
  395. way.
