Ron,
I believe Clark & Sons Mercantile has small packets of "Burley" tobacco seed, only a couple of bucks last time I looked at his web page. See http://www.teleport.com/~walking/clark/

Hey Turtle,
Have you tried growing it in PA, I know your higher up than most of the tobacco growers around there. No good in Canada, at least where I was, Buck sent me some and it didn't go - maybe the moose got it first ???

That was a fashionable thing in Washington's Day and seeing how the "kitchen mess" belonged to him that could be, it's been at least 15 years since I looked at the set and can't remember now. I'll get back with an answer Jon.

Jon,
Have received word that the mess kit in question is tin of a high quality that has turned dark with age, not pewtered [tin-lead alloy] as you had suggested.
The gentleman from the society said he had trouble finding the mess kit as it is not on display at this time (hoped to make a new setting with it included - early in 2000). This is the trouble these days with the cost of floor space, many items of interest are packed away (if not sold to private collections).

Hello the camp
It's been awhile since I've written or at least since I've insulted any
Texicans (haha). My Reason for writing is in hopes that someone has a copy
of the letter or "speech" that the grieving dad from Littleton, CO. read
before the congress this past spring. This incredible man was trying to
convince our elected "officials" not to blame the NRA or gun manufacturers,
or gun owners for the actions of two demented kids. If anyone has a copy of
this posting, I would greatly appreciate it's forwarding. Thank you in
advance. keep yer powder dry an watch yore topknot...

this.... if Texas is supposed to be "heaven-on-earth"( according to its
natives), How come they are everywhere else!!?? I want so much to tell the

HEIRLOOM SEED PROJECT
Burley Tobacco
approx.100 seeds per pkt. 120 days
Start seeds indoors 4-6 wks. before transplanting. Do not cover seeds with soil; they need light to germinate. Space seeds 1" apart, separating rows by 6ö. Germination should be 14-21 days, move seeds to peat pots when the plants are 3-4ö tall.
Move to garden 2 wks. after all danger of frost is gone and weather has settled. Set plants 18ö apart in rows 30ö apart.
Water well during dry weather and mulch to reduce weeds. Harvest plants at 4-6Æ tall, havvest the pungent leaves at any size. This is a popular plug filler type tobacco.
