Friends,

Who sells Missouri River patterns.  I'm interested in the rifleman's
hunting frock.  I've given up on making sense out of the Eagle's View
pattern.  Too bad I don't have a bird cage.
I still want to make a leather frock, but from a better pattern, and I know
MO River are good.

Where can I get them, better yet, a list of 'em?

This is florida.  The only native rock around here is coquina, a lime/coral mix
that turns to dust
when struck. The only real rocks around these parts are imported and generate
great profits
at builder's supply. I plan to experiment with a small piece of quartz pilfered
from my neighbor's
flowerbed and also to be more in tune with what's on the ground when visiting
elsewhere about
the country.

A huge number of historic Canadian books & publications are accessible at
www.canadiana.org.  Kirsten Smith passed along this bookmark to me several
months ago, and I've finally had a chance to check the site out thoroughly.
The site has images of the original pages which can be downloaded as html
files or Adobe Acrobat pdf files, and include the original illustrations (in
black & white). Some books are available online in several different
editions, and you can search the publications by author, subject, title, and
publisher. You can also search by a word or phrase in the database which
includes the full text of all the books. For example, you could search for
the term 'Blackfoot Indian' in every single book with just one search. The
result will give you the full info on every book which contains the searched
term, and tell you which pages of that book have that term. Awesome! Great
for searching for people, fur posts, etc.

Since the site is huge, you need a good idea of what you're looking for.
Here are just a few of the books that are online which might be of interest
to list members (I've paraphrased the titles):

Franchere, Gabriel. _Narrative_ (of his experiences at Astoria and his
voyage there & back)
Heriot, George. _Travels through the Canadas..._ (c.1810)
Lambert, John. _Travels through Canada & the U.S., 1806-1808_
Mackenzie, Alexander. _Voyages to the Arctic Ocean in 1789 and the Pacific
Ocean in 1793..._
Ross, Alexander. _Fur Hunters of the Far West_
Ross, Alexander. _Adventures on the Columbia River_
Vancouver, George. _A Voyage of Discovery...1790-1795_

Hallo! Can you put this in the newsletter, please? :

Hallo, Mountainmen and others!

We (still mostly people from Sweden) are now starting a project that will
try to create a computer program about the life in USA from around
1830-1900 (mostly West of Mississipi) including the Great Immigration/Move
West.
1. Are you interrested in participate in this? (I'm mostly asking for
information, but we can also need more skilled programmers (C++ and
Assembler) and perhaps drawings plus translations to different languages.)

2. We are NOT looking for stories but we need a lot information about
allmost any FIGURES from that period for instance:
Tradeprices in different parts of USA at that time (both furs, supply,
weapons, horses...=everything that common pioneers needed). (Including
where and when.)
What was the maximum reach for different weapons (that was a point to shoot at)?

Transportation: Cargo transports and "ticket" prices for travelling with
dilligence, boat, train. Where and when excists transportation for  above?

Population in different counties different years.

Approx figures is better than none...



3. We also need some drawings /photos of things like houses.

Maps can also be interresting (but we have some allready).




4. (Are you interrested in getting information about the program when it
will be ready (/or "if" - the goal is a very complex program...) We hope we
will be ready in autumn 2000.)?
