Subject: MtMan-List: TOW alternatives
I was thinking the other day about scubbing out a rifle with tow, but since
I didn't have any on hand, got to wondering what one might have used if out
on the trail for a while.

Hello the camp
Some time ago the directions was on this list about lanolin and how to add it
to new wool blankets. Does any one have that information. I would like to try

>>Monte,
A number of things will substitute for tow. I've used frayed out sisal
and cotton rope, fine textured dead grass, old rags, even buffalo or horse
hair. Just about anything will do that can be wrapped up on a tow worm and
shoved down a gun bore.

"Wash it as little as possible, preferably by hand. They can be machine
washed but if you want it to last a very long time, dry clean it at the end
of the season and put it away carefully for the summer. A teaspoonful of
hazelnut oil , Almond oil or similar in the final rinse helps restore the
oil to the wool. Moreover, it will smell very nice!"

Subject: MtMan-List: Teaching Shooting
I have resently returned to the list. Do you miss me? Ya Right!
Anyway, I have been working to teach my son to shoot. He is definately
right handed and decidely left eyed. He tries to squish his face around to
make it work for him and it does not. I am afraid I have got him a bit
frustrated with my attempts to fix it. Any advice.
Secondly we bought him a bow at Bridger and I would shoot it just for fun.
Well I broke it. However, I am not sure he will use it enough to replace
it. He enjoyed it quite a bit but the string wipes his arm on the off side
and the arrows cut his hand. It is/will be an Indian/primitive bow. Is
there something I can add to the bow that would protect his hand and what
size or sytle of arm protector would you recomend.
In referance to paragraph 1 his shooting applies to both rifles and bows.
Thank you in advance
Wynn Ormond
