Had a similar experience with Buck Conner a few years ago, I got stuck in the same position as you with his kind help, it took like three washings to get my breeches clean from the sticky mud - good luck.
Oh we where south of Ft. Osage on the Missouri, then again on the Mississippi, man they are big rivers. Your friends long boat would work good on that water.
