I have recently posted my version of I Got the Message on the cover
project page. Sorry if I have stepped on any feet by doing this cover. I
did not see the initial list of artists doing particular songs. Hope
everyone enjoys what I have submitted. Please feel free to email me with
your comments.
I must admit I am quite impressed with what people have created so far.
Keep up the good work!!!

You know what I love?
I'm gonna tell you.
I love listening to some of the tracks live from Alberta to hear the
beginnings the Hats have to some of their songs....the beginning to I Like,
Freeways, and Editions of You are just so mystical and fantastic especially
for keyboards and for early to mid 80's....
And you know what else?
Well, I think the reason I like the Hats so much is because they are not a
"chick" band...they never really played the Depeche mode or Duran Duran
cheese songs that talk about scoring girls and what to do with such a
plethera of ass.
I still can't figure out what age the Hats would appeal to....Where folk
bands I can garner up an accurate demographic....and teen bands, and other
80s bands as well.....but i really can't with the Hats......

And why wasn't I Got the Message popular in the states?
Everybody who's in listening range of the song when I'm playing it always
comments on what a good song it is.
Was it just passed by? I think if some of these songs were recognized, we'd
be hearing many of them at 80's clubs and bars....maybe that's good that they
weren't but does anybody agree with me?

I guess Depeche Mode did the chicky songs in the early years ("See
You"....jeepers! Did anyone catch this song on Top of the Pops in the
"Behind The Scenes" documentary?) but to this day I still wonder HOW in the
world Duran Duran made it with Simon Le Bon as the singer. What a cracky
voice! Although, I was such a fan back then....but that voice bothered me a
lot.

I guess becuase they weren't as popular as bands like Depeche Mode, Duran
Duran, and Culture Club where they had a specific fanbase. But why? I
don't know. Maybe not enough promotion and interviews? The teen magazines
had Duran Duran, Wham!, and Cultre Club all over the place. Thus, a teen
band. I never saw Men Without Hats mentioned anywhere even though everyone
knew of "The Safety Dance".
Does anyone know the chart listings of MWH in Canada?

Hiya, listers...
A possible version (if you accept it, that is) of my
main contribution "I'm in Love", performed by my project
Daffus X, is now available at the coversite:
http://www.holdman.com/mwhcovers/
Go get it and judge, please!
I thought the original ending of the song was like
they knew all along that they would fade it out,
but decided they wouldn't at the last minute.
SO... I decided to spiff it up a bit or three. :)
