It is very annoying. Yes yes it takes 2 seconds in this hectic busy world

know what the topic is anyway :) A few lines will do.
(I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but another reason why debates may
seem difficult here is because read and reply at different times/days)

I agree Daniele. Scolling through three pages of commented text to read
someone's one sentence comment is one of the most annoying things when
reading through e-mail. It is also much easier to understand when the part
that is being responded to is cut out to clarify the response.

Hello Aerechui!
Um, actually I am well aware that this is a very international mailing
list. Ever since I started making the VHS HiFi compilations of the
CDs made available from this list (and the two video compilations as well),
I've filled several international orders.
If you reread my last "political" message, you may notice that I carefully
worded it so as to, hopefully, dispel any notions that I was arrogantly
assuming that everybody here is American - like I've seen too many other
Americans do in the few short years I've been involved with the internet.
I often do not know if people outside the US are aware of what a lot of
Americans believe about their own Constitution - thinking it to be old and
"out of date".
I just happened to realize, however, the political nature of what was happening
on this list and the uncanny resemblances to the academic structure of my own
government. If you ask me, the 200+ year old document that is the Unites
oops/ United States Constitution is "right on" and full of thought and
remarkable understanding of the constant political nature of man. The example
it gives regarding how a so-called free society is to be governed, I believe,
is very relevant to the current situation here on this list: establish the
office of a representative which the majority favours and allow that person
to represent those who put him/her there. I believe this was the original
plan anyway by allowing Francis to represent us and make decisions on our
behalf. I think that should be maintained above all else and if anybody is
unhappy with anything that occurs or is about to occur, emails should be
sent to him privately and not in public where it can really do no good.
As for my personal political ideology, you may visit my website at your
leisure and read it. The particular document to which I refer I did not
write, but it speaks for me just the same with a style and grace I could
never duplicate if I tried.

But of course. Don't all Americans do this?
Your assessment is grossly incorrect and a poor rebuttal.
I see no flaw in the analogy and find it quite appropriate
in describing the current political situation that has
tainted this list recently. And it *is* a political situation.
aAllowing Francis to govern the affairs of the list as it
pertains to the hopefully upcoming concert in Montreal is
akin
quite literally akin to the American political model
and is far better than everybody here just shouting out
ideas and getting into public fights over petty grievances.
I certainly would feel stupid to use the parliamentary form
of government as an example. I used the American form of
government in my analogy because it is that with which I
am most familiar. Note that I mentioned nothing about
specific official titles. That was your move.
"Representative" is a generic term.
Ever seen "Lord of the Flies"?

Ya know, I can see how the list can talk about their small concerns with the
concert, but this is getting ridiculous! Gee wiz! How many people here
care about America's politics? I would say most of us AMERICANS. However,
some people joined the MWH mailing list to talk about MWH in any way shape
or form. The arguments about the concert may have seemed absurd to some,
but I ofund it informative. Everyone has their right to state an opinion,
and all our opinions should go into this concert since it's "our" "private"
concert. Basically what I'm trying to say is: If you want to talk Americas
politics, I am sure there's another mailing list out there for ya.

Listen folks,
I kept out of the discussion regarding the concert and all the different
thoughts about how it should be advertised or not advertised blah blah
blah until I had to say something I considered to be relevant that
could shed some light on the main problem that was at the root of all
the bickering. Now for some dumb reason, some think I'm trying to sing
the praises of the American political system. For God's sake, try
digging a little deeper than that into what I submitted to this list!
I said absolutely nothing about bicameral legislatures being superior
to parliaments. I didn't bestow an official American political title
upon Francis. I didn't boast about how great America's governmental
system is over those of other countries. And if you think I did, you
missed the point entirely.
This list has an official representative, Francis, who has been
designated as an intermediary between it and Ivan's management.
If you disagree with something related to how the show is being
handled or if you have a good suggestion, I suggest we adhere to
the plan of submitting our thoughts to Francis if we are to all
remain calm and civil throughout the process. Such a system is
at least theoretically if not realistically similar to the way
business is conducted in America's governments - and many others
as well, I might add.
The alternative is to act like some of the children in "Lord of
The Flies" and let political chaos run rampant on the list.
I personally don't want to see that happen. It causes people
to wish to unsubscribe.
We can have political order here or we can have political chaos.
The way things have been going, political chaos has been winning.
At its most fundamental level, my message is to just cool off
and stop posting inflammatory remarks about the handling of
the concert in public via this list.
How any of you could misinterpret my message as being one
of arrogant, boastful, and proud support of the American political
system is beyond me.
This is all I have to say about this.
If the public bickering continues, I will let you all have the
list to yourselves and will too unsubscribe with little or no
fanfare.
Good night.

Yes, I've read the book and seen the movies. That's an interesting analogy and
you make a good point there. Are you trying to say that Francis has made an
error allowing the whole list to become decision makers. In essence it has
become quite the monster running around without a head. Is that what you mean
Myke?
Then I believe you know how to make a good point without eluding to any
preferred political system.

I think you've got it. Actually, while I was lurking I saw that
some of the members of the list itself were falling into the trap
of attempting to make decisions when it was not their place to do so
in this particular case - with regard to how it should be promoted.
Bickering ensued as a result and the focus of leaving such matters
to Francis seemed to get completely buried in the melee.
Francis didn't make any mistake as far as I could tell.
I think he's doing the best job anybody could ask of him to do.
I saw the whole episode as being fundamentally flawed in a most
political and philosophical way and tried my best to explain myself
using "democracy vs. the representative republic" as an analogy.
I believe that had certain list members simply remembered that
this whole concert situation was supposed to be handled in
"representative republic" fashion instead of in "democratic"
fashion, the arguing about elitism and such would never have
occurred.
Or, at least, it would have never occurred in public via the list.
And the dignity of the list would have been preserved.

Someone had mentioned that Ivan was on the Camilla Scott talk show some
time ago. I called them and it is scheduled to be repeated on May 1st,
1998. So if you missed it like I did, don't miss it the second time around.

Subject: (hats) Dear Senz,
If I'd just come out and said, "Y'know, if we would all just stick
to the plan of functioning as a representative republic instead of
trying to turn this list into a democracy with regards to this concert,..."
Who then would have understood what the heck I was trying to say?
Hence my choice to employ an analogy to illustrate the point more
clearly.
Personally, I know nary a soul who regularly uses the term
"representative republic" in their everyday speech - yet that is
the correct term to use in this situation. This is why I decided
to draw a more colourful picture with more commonly recognized
examples. It was not an effort to teach. It was an effort to
make my own thoughts and concepts a little bit easier to follow
and understand. I am told routinely by coworkers that I think
and speak on another "level" or "wavelength" than the one on
which they do - but I don't always see it when it's happening.
All I can do is simply be aware that it has happened often in
the past and can possibly happen again at any time. I don't
like the fact that it happens and was attempting to prevent
it from happening at such a sensitive period in the history
of this list. Right now, I'm sure somebody's out there
misinterpreting this very message, thinking I'm bragging
about myself. I never once thought somebody would have
interpreted my previous posts as waving an American flag
in everybody's face.
Now what *this* has to do with the Hats concert, I've no idea.

Yes- the first release was a 10", then the Stiff 12", then the Freeways
12" with all the Fot80s songs on the flip side.

As it is clearly mentioned in Lazlo's Men Without Hats discography
(http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?hats), 10" in Canada, 12" in the S=
tates...

It's pretty hard to be on the same "level" when I'm recieving your thursday
posts on friday!! Okay, let's put this one behind us and get ready for the next
one.... (sigh)!
btw Myke, do you think we've stopped people from arguing about the concert?
That was our plan all along, eh? ;-)

here is where you can get it:
HMV in montreal. the phone number is 1-800-567-2442. and that will work from
the states. ask to be transferred downstairs (it is a three level store with
about 200 employees!). I always speak to Sharon. I paid $17.59 total u.s.
dollars to have The Spell delivered to my mailbox about 3 days after i ordered
it.
there is one technicality with using a credit card (one i admire for its
safety purposes), you must fax them a signed note authorizing hmv to use your
card, which they will keep on record. fax# is 514-875-9158. i have to say it
is the finest music store i have ever seen!
(they also have pgtw, 21st century, sideways and greatest hats)

Dave Byrne told me he still waiting any news from Ivan himself. It seems Mr.

The show won't be public, ONLY FOR FANS, WITHOUT ANY PROFIT! (except for the
band itself)
You are free to bring any one you want.
