Subject: (hats) NC Chapter meeting minutes
Hi Hatters!
Wow! Trena and I just got back not too long ago from the Triangle
Chapter meeting of the MWH fan club. Our special guest was of course
Per-Johan Josefsson from Sweden. What an extremely sweet guy! PJ, it
was sooooo nice to meet you - I hope we can get together again
another time (and next time, lunch is on Trena and me!)
We converged on the Chili's in Cary, and we were all immdediately
identifiable to each other by our glorious MWH T-shirts. Trena and
I have white shirts, and PJ's is orange. When we were seated, PJ
asked the host and hostess if they could put his Collection CD on,
but their sound system only did Muzak. Bummer, but it was a nice
try! We confused the waiter terribly by all ordering different
amounts of ice in our sodas. He asked where PJ was from, and seemed
really surprised that PJ is from Sweden. Then he asked Trena where
she was from (Zebulon, NC, about 1 hr away! - duh!). He didn't care
where I was from, apparently. :-)
PJ tried "country fried steak," which for those of you who are not
familiar with southern U.S cooking, is a steak that is breaded and
fried like a piece of fried chicken. I had chicken and pasta in a
spicy cream sauce, and Trena had a turkey club sandwich (and I stole
some of her fries). The chicken noodle soup at Chili's is very
good, btw.
Topics of discussion included the concert in Montreal last summer and
meeting other Hatters then; meeting Ivan, Collin, Sahara, and Betty
and Eugene; the various boots, particularly #s 4 and 5; and the
upcoming "musical book signing." We talked about when was the first
time we heard MWH (Safety Dance for all of us - Trena and PJ on the
radio, me on MTV). We also talked about some of the reactions we
have gotten to our Ts. PJ was at a synth festival in Stockholm, and
many people there recognized the design - very heartwarming!!! I
told the ambulance story again, and Trena told her story about the
people in the fondue restaurant in Montreal that thought we were some
kind of doomsday cult or something. Two or three people in the
restaurant came up and asked us what our shirts were, and one woman
thought we were with the band. OK, I have big hair, but I don't
think I look the least bit like that chick in the Safety Dance video!
Like the intellectual giant I am, I forgot to bring my camera, but it
was PJ to the rescue! Do they have Boy Scouts in Sweden? Be
prepared!! :-) We got a waiter to take some pictures of us with
PJ's camera, and I really REALLY hope they come out!
We also talked about pets (sort of an inescapable topic with me -
btw, I know where you can get a really sweet little cat - just ask
me!), US and Swedish culture, and the ineptitude of various
countries' border crossing officials.
PJ is really sweet and nice, and has a great sense of humor, and I
hope we all get a chance to hang out together a lot in Montreal this
summer.
Well, that's it for the meeting minutes! Can't wait to do it again
sometime!!!!!!!!!
:-) Laura

Subject: (hats) nomination & video question
>All the nominations are based on what is proposed by the record industry. If
>The Spell is up, it's because it's the song that was proposed by TOX record.
>But are you sure it is not the album that is in nomination?
I double-checked with my friend and made sure the category was indeed single
and not album. Actually, he's the one who I find out which songs of Ivan's
are on promo because he is always saying "Ivan has a new song out you
probably did not hear yet" and I reply saying I have the CD :)
So I kept telling him "Are you sure it's for single and not album?". He had
the list of nominations in his hands and under single (something like best
dance single) it said "The Spell" by Ivan. He never received that on promo.
Only "Open Your Eyes" and "Superbadgirls" which he did not accept!!
- ---
I was watching the "Open Your Eyes" video today and noticed that Ivan has a
tattoo on his arm. You can't see it clearly but, well might as well ask,
does anyone know what it is? :) My other question about the video is is
that woman (sitting beside Ivan who sings part of the backup) the VJ from
MusiquePlus who is now at MuchMusic? I forgot her name. She is the one who
leads Electric Circus.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.............
I'm feeling really stupid right now. Ever since Laura left me a message about
the NC MWH get together I'd planned on going. Even though my days are usually
pretty nuts, I figured meeting at a restaurant only a 5 minute drive from my
house was absolutely doable. Every day recently I thought: "Gotta go on
Friday!" So what happens? I completely forgot until about 5pm, far too late.
So, ... grrrrrrrrr.
Maybe there'll be another meeting before I move to Chicago this summer. I
hope. I really wanted to be there.

Hmmm..just when you think that the mystery is FINALLY clearing up...you run
across something like THIS:
Have you kept in touch with your two co-stars from "The Safety Dance" video?
It's like there are so many videos, so many actors -- you work together for,
like, one day, and that's it forever. The little guy played Og in Time
Bandits, the character who turned into a pig at the end. The girl, as I
recall, she was a good friend of Bananarama's.
contact: http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_05.15.97/music/weisblott.html
for the whole scoop......i imagine that most of you have already seen this,
but, just in case, i thought that a few of you might get a kick out of this;)

Sort of. I have a feeling there are a lot of diehard fans who have not
discovered the internet yet. I was one of them until late last year.
The reasoning behind not wanting to promote this show publicly is to keep the
atmosphere intimate and relaxed. It would be nice to get the Hats list
together,
and our friends & family, and not have to worry about party crashers and the
general
public. Simple is best.

I agree with your idea, but if it was restricted to us online members only,
what about the Hats fans in Montreal or other Hats members who don't have
internet access? (I know, "...but then how would they know about the concert,
anyway?")
It's just that there are still ways to get info other than the internet. I for
one have forgotten them all because of the terminal in front of me but
still...

Literally translated from Italian is "Or my sun". Not literally translated
would be "Oh my sun".

i agree...ultimately, WE (ie: the LIST!) are the ones making this happen, with
the primary purpose being a show for LIST users, and their respective
others/family/friends/etc. as a small, intimate thank you for Ivan & co. ...
to give the general public knowledge of/ access to this event would only make
it into a circus...something i believe that ALL parties involved would like to
avoid at all costs....

Rush Do Not Relax !!!!!!!!
I Agree with you 100%
the people on this list have waited a long time for this concert. I for
one
would hate to get all the way to Montreal from Florida and have the best
seats taken by some enterprising scalper that heard about this concert
because it went public.
all of us on the list have friends who may not have computers but are still
die hard fans of MWH, if you would like to bring them along fine... but to
make this very special event a public one, would undermine all of the
effort
that went into it to begin with.

No kidding. I see the ticket brokers in Chicago on almost a daily basis,
and they would LOVE a thing like this, they would scarf up the tickets and
gouge the hell out of the truly loyal fans. I didn't even think to bring
this up. Boy would some of the regulars on this list be ticked if they
couldn't get tickets or had to pay $200.00 for them.

With your permission Francis, I would like to clarify some things for our
mixed friends here; First we are looking for a small venue. The show will=
be
VERY INTIMATE (even if it is publicized to death). Second, the seats are =
not
numbered, all the seats are GOOD (the venue being quite small). Last, no
"scalpers" will have access to those tickets. Tickets will be sold to fan=
s.
Priority (obviously) to the mailing list, then to general public. And we =
won't
sell more tickets than there are available seats!
Now, don't relax if you want
