  62. I have located a used copy of "In The 21st Century" on CD at a local
  63. record shoppe here in Tulsa.  I don't remember if it's out of print now
  64. or not, but if anybody's needing a copy I'll be happy to get it and mail
  65. it to them if you send me a check first to cover the costs.  The price on
  66. the disk is $13.98 which I thought was extremely steep for a used disk
  67. but I think the woman who owns and runs the place, Rita, knows what she's
  68. got in that one.  I already have it and don't really care for it, so I
  69. didn't get buy it when I saw it, but if anybody else is hard up enough
  70. to be willing to pay that much for it plus shipping, I just wanted to
  71. let you know it's available.

  169. are..i was just prefacing my comment)...then we could stay at a youth
  170. hostel.
  171.     The Auberge de Junesse (I don't know French at all so this is
  172. probably spelled incorrect) is a hostel a block from the Molsen Center
  173. (where the Canadians play).
  174.     I know that they have room deals there...like if you get 4 or more
  175. people to a room...the price drops dramatically. For one person, it is $17
  176. Canadian dollars a night. They have rooms for 8 and I think 12 people.
  177.     What do you guys think of this?

  274. Laura, there is NO age requirement for staying at a hostel...i would consider
  275. this myself, if i wasn't staying for so long so have so much with me *i don't
  276. like the thought of having to lock my stuff in a locker every single day for 3
  277. weeks!*  therefore, i am attempting to go the `b-n-b' route...should have some
  278. decent quotes shortly...man, i wish that there was a small cottage i could
  279. rent for about $450/mo...that would be so cool:)

  302.  As far as I know, they don't actually put an age limit on those who can stay
  303. in one.  They're geared toward young travelers but if you're in your 30's
  304. they're not going to 
  305. turn you away on that basis.

  322. basically a representation of the typical wiccan/pagan beltane (mayday)
  323. ceremonies?-  they do a parade every year in padstow, england.  they have the
  324. hobby horse, Punch (played in the video by stefan, i believe), (his stick is
  325. known as "the tease or tease stick) and the morris dancers. oh yeah- and all
  326. the traditional beltane masques so many folks are wearing.     and i am sure
  327. you've all long since noticed the punk rockers just hanging around in the
  328. background.     just wondering if anyone knew.......

  375. First for the hostel: in Ireland, last Fall, I was in a youth hostel with a
  376. very fine german couple; but they were about 60! So, in all major hostels,
  377. age is not a criteria anymore. It is more a matter of taste, and money as
  378. well... I've been told by a few travellers I know that it is often more fun
  379. in those hostels since you can meet people more easily. I will check how it
  380. is exactly in Montreal.
  381.  
  382. Second: from the Dorval airport (all of you coming by plane should land
  383. there, since Mirabel, the other airport far from Montreal, is now dedicated
  384. to charters - lucky you!), it is 35$ CAN MAXIMUM (more around 20$ I think)
  385. for the ride to downtown Montreal, but I think they have a fixed rate. I'll
  386. check that in the next cab I'll take. This price is for the ride, no matter
  387. how many you are to get on the cab. You can also use a special luxury bus
  388. service
  389. for less, or even the city bus, for less than 2$. So if you don't have a lot
  390. of stuff and/or money, this solution is the cheapest. The bus will take you
  391. to the
  392. subway. From there, you can go anywhere downtown Montreal. The "Auberge de
  393. Jeunesse" (Collin, you were almost right! ;-) ) is located at the
  394. Bonaventure Station, wich is on the same subway line that the one the
  395. airport's bus will take you to. So you can be there in an hour or so, quite
  396. easily, for 1.85$ to be exact. May I say, at the risk of sounding a little
  397. bit like a travel agent, that even though common sens is "de rigueur" like
  398. in any big city, public transportation in Montreal are perfectly safe, as is
  399. the downtown area. As safe as the MARTA, Brad... ;-) 
  400.  
  401. If you fellows have a few questions about Montreal, I can check some stuff
  402. around. So go ahead and post your question to the list (so the same
  403. questions won't be asked over and over) this week, I will try (and be
  404. pleased) to gather informations next week-end. I'll post the answers to the
  405. list as well. I already had a few questions about B&B, etc. Please note,
  406. however, that I will not book rooms, etc. But I can give phone numbers,
  407. prices,and so. Also, it could be possible for me to be at the airport at
  408. your arrival, depending when will be your flight of course. Could be useful,
  409. for example, if it is your first time in Montreal: I could help a little bit
  410. for directions, etc.

  576. I will tell you all that I stayed in the Auberge de Jeunesse (i still
  577. don't know if I'm spelling it right) in Montreal. It is SO clean and they
  578. clean the rooms everyday and people there are so polite. The receptionists
  579. are young (youths) and there is a tv lounge and private showers. And I
  580. promise that the hostel had nothing to do with this PR I'm giving it.

  610.     They began to flourish in the time of the 50's and 60's with
  611. Kerouak and the beat generation. The reason they were named youth
  612. hostels...was because they attracted mainly youths. Now, the hostel
  613. doesn't descriminate...it doesn't matter how old you are...just that you
  614. have money.

  816. I am Klaus from Germany! I am new to this list.
  817. Men Without Hats has been one of my first bands I ever listened to. 'Rhythm
  818. of youth' was the first album I bought, that's 15 years ago. I have been
  819. with this band from the beginning(almost).
  820. I loved "Folk of the 80s III" when it was released back in '84. (I am a
  821. proud owner of the original CD-release of Folk of the 80's III) Three hard
  822. years followed, while I thought, MWH had split up. Then PGTW appeared. It
  823. was like a resurrection.
  824. 21st Century was another masterpiece. Sideways: I still don't know what I
  825. should think of it. 'Everybody wants to know' surely is one of the most
  826. beautiful songs I know.
  827. I had lost track of MWH for quite some time. Then I found this list. It is
  828. good to know, that there are still many people interested in MWH.
  829. I haven't got Ivan's new album, but I know, I have to get it.

  1024. I just saw Safety Dance on Pop Up Video! It's Eight Days of Eighties
  1025. week, and today's Pop Up focused on dancing. I wish I had 
  1026. been able to tape it, but I was visiting my parents' house.

  1028. For those who haven't seen it, Pop Up Video is a half-hour program on
  1029. VH1. They show a video, and pop up bits of information during the song,
  1030. sometimes informative, sometimes irreverent.
  1031.  
  1032. My favorite bit was at the very beginning, when Ivan and the dwarf first
  1033. appear. They point to Ivan and pop up "Man without hat." Then they point
  1034. to the dwarf and pop up "Man without height." A close second place was
  1035. shortly after, when they point to the dwarf and pop up "Medieval
  1036. jester," and when the girl pops into the scene with her goofy grin, they
  1037. point to her and pop up "Medieval fool."
  1038.  
  1039. They mention a few interesting tidbits, like Ivan's birthday is October
  1040. 9, 1957. And the video was shot in one day in England, and the rest of
  1041. the band couldn't be there because they were in New York rehearsing for
  1042. either a tour or a recording -- I forget which. And Ivan founded the
  1043. band in '80, and the band name "just came to him."
  1044.  
  1045. There was the speculation that the song was about safe sex, since "jimmy
  1046. hat" was one of the many slangs for condom at the time, and people could
  1047. no longer dance in the sheets safely without hats without fear of AIDS
  1048. and other various diseases.
  1049.  
  1050. Then at the end of the video, they mention that Ivan now dances alone,
  1051. because the success of the song caused the band to get too greedy, and
  1052. they broke up shortly after. So their info is definitely not completely
  1053. correct, but it was great to see the video getting the treatment.
  1054.  
  1055. As a good running gag, the next video was The Hooters' "And We Danced."
  1056. They pointed to a concessions vendor wearing a hat and popped up "Man
  1057. with hat."
