Hats fans!!!!!
Got my video today!!!! I watched the entire tape before doing anything
else!!!!! It was excellent!!! The live show was great to see. It sort of
bridged a gap in my Hats fandom. I also saw the videos for the first time
(sans SD and WDTBG)!!!! Very original and they hold up even by today's
standards.

Hi Francis
Thanks for your questions. Lenny Pinkus and I shared keyboard duties for
the 1988 tour. Marika Tjelius played keyboard bass, and Heidi Garcia
played some string pads in some songs. Ivan played a bit of piano on
parts of th tour as well. Ivan took quite a while to do PGTW, but this
was before my time. I was under the impression that the the delay was
due to losing their deal at Polygram, but hey, who knows. I met Ivan's
ex-wife once while I was living over at Stef's place. She was very nice
and Ivan and her seemed to get along fabulously. I forget what she did
for a living, but I seem to recall it was something interesting?
I don't remember meeting you in Montreal, but hell, I can't remember
half the tour! :-) I'll be talking to Ivan this weekend, I'll tell him
you said Hi. Apparantly he's working in a studio in Montreal. He left a
message on my voicemail last week but didn't elaborate. (Maybe new Hats
material?)

Well, the land of the rising sun has it's first and only copy of the
best chunk of music ever to be put on video tape. I'll be putting on a
preview of the video at a club in Osaka this weekend if anyone will be
in the neighborhood (Copyrights don't mean too much in Asia.)
Tom, I must raise a hunk of cold fish and warm cup of rice wine to your
efforts! The videos themselves came out much better than I expected and
the concert is a MUST for any MWH fan. (There are a few sound problems
in the concert section with level dropouts)
Maybe I'm just stating the obvious, but I think that we all owe Mr.
Norman a debt of gratitude for adding to the incredibly scarce supply of
MWH material available. Out of all the people talking about making a
bootleg CD, video, T-shirt, etc., Tom is the only person who actually
DID anything about it. My hat goes off to you Tom!

A little while ago Michael Thomas offered to make copies of the video
for anyone too far down on the original video list. I ordered one from
him and got it a few days ago. I watched it once and decided it's not
something I'm likely to watch again so thought I'd offer it to someone
else. There's nothing wrong with the tape and it's on a nice Maxell
HGX-Gold tape. I just don't expect I'll watch it again so I figured
I'd see if anyone else is far down on the wait list and wants to just
buy this one instead of waiting for one of those. If you, just drop
me a note about it. (don't reply to the list.) Send to me at
heidi@world.std.com since I read that account more often then this one.
Btw, does anyone on the list speak French and knows what ID is saying
in that one interview?

PERFECT! Can't wait for this to come out! A great reason for the new
year! I'm happy that it is all in french in a way; that was one of the
reasons why Men Without Hats were so appealing--their french lyrics with
the english. I wonder what kind of music he will sing? Coudl you picture
Ivan rapping? 8^0 Sorry for ruining your day.

Thanks for the info!
Any ideas if it'll be entitled "Return of the Logo" and include the "UFOs R Real" track (everyone remember
that thread?)?

I walked into Tower Recrods today (in Toronto that is) and saw "Greatest
Hats" selling for $11.99!!!!!!!! What a surprise. But they had few
copies. Stupid me did not buy one. I will go next week so maybe I'll
wise up and buy a copy (on tape though, for the car). Someone from
Germany sent me an e-mail asking me to get a copy for him--I am sorry

I browsed the online record store, CDNOW, and saw that they are selling
"Rhythm of Youth"! It's not a cd, it's a cassette. For the low price of
$4.98! Weird how the track listing is different. It doesn't have the
reprise of "The Great Ones Remember" and it starts off with "Cocorricci
(Tango Des Valeurs)" (sp) and ends with "Ban The Game".

Wow! Where did you find that out?
When I hear about something like this I cant help but wonder; "Whats it
gonna be like?". Do any among us dare to speculate aloud? "I" sayeth
me! And so here go I... Let us analyse the situation. Rumors have
abounded about academia in the art of film. Five years beyond Sideways
is certainly enough for our hero to have obtained that piece of paper.
If so, why a new album but not a new film? I think the answer lies in
his last work of art more than anything. Most of us realize that
Sideways was an attempt at breaking out of a pigeon hole. There may have
been a little something to prove to his critics as well, no? My
personal belief is that the "art" took a bit of a back seat to these
intentions. Now with new ideas gleaned and fostered by his scholastic
experience he returns. Finding himself free of those "Synth" shackles
and having nothing to prove, (ie "I can play guitar too, see!") Ivan
discovers he has more to say...
My prediction, then, is for an alternative sort of thing. Perhaps with
elements of Smashing Pumpkins and They Might Be Giants. Guitar? Most
definately! But at a more controlled level. Synth? perhaps a little, but
not not noticably. Traditional instruments, violins, piano? Sure! Not
so traditional ones like an accordian, a gazoo and a soccer whistle? Why
not! But most important, IT WILL INCLUDE ART!!!
On the other hand maybe he's just trying to drum up cash to fund a film
project! Oh well, c'est la vie.

The cassette version (at that low price) has been available for years, at
least in the US; I don't think the tape ever went out of print. Funny about
the track listing, though--I have a tape copy I bought a year or so ago, and
the track listing is normal, so I wonder if the CDNow listing is a mistake.
The sound quality on my cassette is excellent, btw, so it's worth tracking
down if you can't wait for the CD.
I finally got the Collection CD for my birthday last month, and it's great
(thanks to Swahili Steve for tiding me over). One thing it's done has been to
give me a greater appreciation for "Living in China"--I was never really into
that song before, but now I really dig it. Still hoping to hear "Great Ones
Remember" on CD, though... :-)

Maybe not alternative. Remember, the album is in french so I guess he's
aiming for the Quebecois market and also France. Taking today's popular
music charts (that is Europe's), I'm gonna contradict myself here and say
maybe he'll be a cross between "RoY" meets Celine Dion, Roch Voisine, and
a few guitar riffs. Not to say that Ivan will conform to what is popular,
but I think, after hearingthe diffenret styles of MWH's albums, that
could be the next style? As long as Ivan doesn't scream in his songs....

A soccer whistle! COOL! I'd love to hear Ivan's rendition of "Safety
