Subject: (hats) Free copy of Lexicon to you guys
Date: 01 Dec 1998 10:01:42 -0500
Hi,
This is not meant to be spam. As a way to get the word out and to thank
you guys for such (usually) entertianing posts I am giving a copy of
Lexicon to who ever wants it. Here's the spam part---
Hi,
Last chance to get a free sample copy of Lexicon Magazine- New Wave and
Beyond. The current issue, #9, features Men at Work on the cover. Inside
there's interviews and articles on Dead or Alive, GitaneDemone, Patty
Smyth, Blue Peter, Adam and the AntZ, big audio dynamite, The Culture
Club Rewind Tour, White Town, A Vapors discography, the Kate Bush
tribute album, two full color reporductions of rare Strawberry
Switchblade 45 sleevs plus tons of news and reviews of all your favorite
'80s artists.
I'll be glad to send you a free copy, just drop me a line with your
snail mail address. If you like you can drop me a line via the US mail
with some stamps to help defray the postgae costs (It costs me $1.24 in
postage to ship out each issue).
Thanks to eveyrone who asked for a copy before, you should have your
copy already. Hope you enjoy!

Razormaid records is a DJ REMIX service. They are doing a series of CDS
with rare songs that they remix. If you wish to see the tracks listings
you can see it at http://www.holdman.com/test/Series-II-Titles.GIF
The Men Without Hats song is on the Class x-19 CD
It should be intresting to hear a new remix of I got the message.

Oh that's great! I heard some Razormaid remixes (aren't they illegal?)
before and they are fantastic. Ok, I heard three but I'm excited to hear
how they will remix "I Got The Message".

worth it simply for the hats remix, but they usually do an extrememly swank
job of most everything they get their collective paws on...

Date: 03 Dec 1998 19:52:57 -0500
I looked at the website about Razormaid and the cds seem interesting. Too
bad the prices are too high. They have remixes of "Major Tom" and the funny
thing was they listed Trans-X as an Italian band. Aren't they're from
Montreal?
They listed "I Got The Message" as progressive rock. Progressive rock? I
always thought of "I Got The Message" as the song I'd cover if I was in the
music industry today. Whatever became of the compilation album we were
going to do? I read about the upcoming tribute from Uforia (by the way, I
still love your fantastic page Claude!) and I hope it's good--what I mean is
I hope the bands take the time to write up good quality covers and not just
some
gee-I-think-an-acoustic-version-would-be-easier-and-marketable-rush-job. I
hope this hasn't been brought up before, but what kind of covers/remixes
would everyone like to see on a tribute album? For me, I'd like to see a
rock version of one of their electronic songs and vice versa. A symphonic
(maybe opera?) version of "Sercurity (Everyone Feels Better With)". I don't
know about "The Saftey Dance" because it's one of those songs that no one
can cover successfully. It's one of those classic tracks that just can't be
interpreted in a different way. I can picture Celine Dion singing "Pop Goes
The World". Maybe in French.

Hey Daniele.
I think Claude Gr=E9goire knows about Trans-X. The lead signer name is Pa=

Claude knows more about Trans-X than me.

Luxt recently covered this track on a compilation entitled 'Newer Wave
2.0' (released by 21st Circuitry Records). Quite a decent cover in my
opinion, complete with female vocals, and somewhat grindy music.
Give it a listen if you see it in a record store...

That was mature :p
Anyways, I was reading the Pop Up video messages during the Safety Dance
and came across the fact that the group broke apart after the song because
they became greedy. Did I miss something here? If they did, how did they
manage to release more singles and then record another album the following
year?

But of course! You're very welcome. :)
While we're on the subject too, it is interesting to note that
in France they apparently lease rather than sell burial plots.
The lease on Jim Morrison's plot is due to expire in the next
couple of years or so and it has already been emphatically expressed
by the powers that be that his particular lease will *not* be
renewed due to all of the problems its presence has caused with
all the fans showing up and doing damage to it and the graves
in the immediate vicinity. This means that he will have to be
removed from that grave and physically moved elsewhere!

????? Pascal is not from France! He and his sister Martine were raised in
Montreal. The school you are refering to is McGill University. That is where I
met Ivan. Ivan's parents were teachers there, as was Pascal's father Jacques
Languirand. A month ago I went to the Languirand's house for a television
shoot and all the family was busy working on the website you mention. It is
about the radio show of Jacques Languirand "Par quatre chemins". Pascal did
plenty of music for his father's show... I'll get you the URL if you want.

This message is for Si Wooldridge:
I think I figured out the reason I can't get e-mails through to you. I
was talking to someone at my company and they said they were having a
hard time getting an e-mail to lucent. The long and short of it is that
my e-mails are likely being bounced by lucent thinking they are 'spam'
because our mail is routed through some untraceable servers before it
goes out the door here. I guess lucent's 'spam' removers identify any
e-mail that was routed through an untraceable server as 'spam' and
bounce it.
Again, sorry for using the list this way, but I can't get e-mail through
any other way.

Thanks to Richard H. I've just had the privelege of hearing the Rhythm of
Youth demos. While all the tracks are great, they generally sound of their
time. However 'Ban the Game' blew me away! The best song I've heard for
ages - I'm still humming it to myself. Too bad only the intro version was
included on the album, the full song would have also fit time-wise and
theme-wise in my opinion. After all, TGOR has its own reprise. No doubt
there was a good reason for its omission - what was it?
Also, any ideas where Uforia products can be purchased on-line via credit
card? (Uforia themselves only accept money orders).

Anyone who hasn't seen the flag of Tibet can view it at:

Yep. And it is not the first time Ivan makes a reference to buddhism on
an album cover...

OK. OK. I just got some new software and a digital input board recently.
One thing I would like to do is to finish CDs 6&7. I might even be able to
improve ROY live too.
I was considering re doing Freeways CD. I have already re-EQed the Freeways
remixes to sound as good as the euromix. I have also duplicated the old
noise reduction used on the ROY demos, so they now sound as good as the
2fer, no static. Surprise.....
Those of you that know anything about dehissing know that it can mess up the
sound quality a bit. This is true. Therefore I don't want to replace the
old CDs with my new ones.
On the other hand, I have done each song many times (trial runs) with
different settings. At this point, I can't hear any side effects on 6&7,
and the hiss is completely removed.
What I propose is that I send 1 or 2 listmembers a trial CD to compare to
the original boots. Then they can tell the whole list if these new CDs are
a good idea or not.
First I have to do them though...... 6&7 are first on the list because
they aren't even finished yet.

You refer of course, to the golden baby? Or are there some more beyond that?

Hi, all.
I'm not really new to the list--I've been monitoring for maybe a year. I've
never posted, though. I just got back from Christmas vacation. I was in
Toronto and Ottawa. I searched most record stores for older MWH stuff, but
couldn't find anything except the latest Greatest Hits release. I have ROY
and Folk of the 80's, but in cassette form--they're at least 15 or 16 years
old and they're starting to wear.
Anyone know where I can actually get the CD versions? I'm also interested
in stuff older than the two cassettes I have, because I've never heard any
of it. I downloaded the MP3 of Security, which I though was pretty hip, but
I don't know what release it's from.
Also, I haven't gotten any MWH since Pop Goes the World. I was finding that
Ivan's newer stuff was a bit too produced or big. I started to lose my
taste for it a bit. Anyone have an opinion about his latest work?
Anyone also like The Fall? I'm thinking that early MWH and The Fall have
some common thread in style, but I've not figured out what it is yet.
Are most of you Canadian too?
