I am really really concerned about this myself. When Martine got my
address, it was over the phone. She just wrote down what I said on the
phone and said "thank you goodbye". She didn't verify the spelling or
anything. She had to of messed up my address. I was hoping that someone
got this. Mine has not, or may never, come yet.

Subject: (hats) MWH Demos - CD #5
Date: 28 Dec 1997 02:24:40 UT
I have offered to help Tom out with the burning of the new Demo CD. If you
haven't heard these songs yet from the MP3 archive, go get them and listen.
Now...imagine those without that MP3 compression and say to yourself, "I need
this stuff on CD". It's WELL worth it as the quality is fantastic...especially
the ROY demos.
So if you haven't already got something arranged with Tom, reply to me
directly and I will ship one out to you. I am charging the same price as
Tom...$10, including packaging, shipping and Tom's excellent artwork. These
CDs will be identical to Tom's except that my printer only does black & white
so the jewel case will not be quite as exciting :)
I'm only going to make these for the next 2 weeks or so so let me know right
away if you want one.

I received my 3 CD bootleg set from Tom this weekend and it sounds
fantastic! The quality really exceeded my expectations. I want to
thank Tom and Russ for making these discs available.
I am also glad that these songs are available on the MP3 archive. I
have downloaded quite a few of them in anticipation of receiving my
set in the mail and the quality is actually quite good.
Thanks to everyone for making '97 an exceptional year for Hats fans!

Date: 30 Dec 1997 06:40:29 UT
For those of you getting their CDs from me, I have created a cdplayer.ini
entry that will work with Win95's CD Player, FlexiCD and other CD players that
read that file.
To use it:
1. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, Find your Windows folder and
double-click.
2. Find the file called cdplayer.ini and double-click it.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the file (if it is blank then don't worry about
it).
4. Paste the text at the end of this mail into the file.
5. Save the file.
The next time you run CD Player, etc. the track list should be correct for the
CD.
Enjoy!

Subject: (hats) The Spell / The Various Bootleg CDs...
Date: 30 Dec 1997 12:16:36 -0600 (CST)
Well, I finally picked up The Spell the other day (too many CDs on
shopping lists still to get, ick), and I have to say, I wasn't terribly
impressed with most of it. Some of the tracks are fantastic, but some
strike me as bad dance music (complete with the female 'diva' voices
going 'whoop! whoop!' it seems). Is this the direction that Ivan is
beginning to take, or is he trying to move more towards a techno vein,
or what? Any ideas or comments?
Also, I was poking around through the list archives and watching what's
gone by of late, but I can't seem to find a tracklisting or description
of what is on the 5 (?) bootleg CDs with the exception of the 5th one
(which looks like it is the 'Ultra Rare Tracks' bootleg listed in
the discography). Out of curiosity, what is on the other ones? I
ask partly out of curiosity, and partly because I wouldn't mind getting
some of them, but not all (from the descriptions that have gone by
already).
Thanks for your time,
F.

The Spell
7 mai 1997 - Montreal. Depuis qu'il a lance entier "You can dance if you
Men Without Hats s'est affirme
etant "The next big thing", IVAN continue, avec The Spell, a evoluer
Select.

I got my copy of CD #5 today and it is truly great!
I think it's funny that Ivan thought back in 1984 that Mick Jagger

"Treblinka" is like really far out!

But what in the world does that mean?
I'll betcha it's a joke title because that little piece with that name

as if half the band was missing at the time or something.
Anybody have any ideas in this regard?

translator's note: I'm working on Dave's request.
I just saw I'm a bit late with the translation of Ou sont mes men,
so I'll add a footnote. I believe I understood a certain reliable
but anonymous source to say that this is a snippet from The
Winnebago Song. :-)
Also, another New Year tidbit for everyone . . .
Nothing happened to Tony. He got a job in a clothing store when
parachute pants (remember those?) were popular, hence "selling
parachutes."

Hey, Laura, good work with the translation! Here are the words that eluded
you:
palmares: charts
niveau: level
tendences: trend, habits (you get the idea)
accrocheuses: hooks
revelateur: revealing (says a lot)
axe sur le mouvement: centered around 'the movement'
logiciel: software
...that concludes today's French lesson, kids.
til next time,
Vince

I don't have the slightest idea what that means! I published the 'thing"
at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Venue/3136/hats88.htm
You should be able to lift it easily (text and background image, I used
the exact same name you choosed). Tell me when you are done with it, I
will delete it. Sorry for the delay! I'm posting to the list as well
because I'm not sure I'm reaching you through your e-mail...
Take care
