Again, the "near-future" and the computer system
described made me think of SF or alternate reality
novels. The only thing close that I can think of--and
my knowledge is by no means complete--that sounds
close would be Tom Clancy's "Net Force" series (which,
I believe, he doesn't actually write, but lends his
name to). In any case, I'm just going on the very
minimal information I've noted here.

Quite possibly. Also, since Galen is selling all the
time, maybe he's not as interested in something he
isn't certain he can sell (though he really should
have the faith in Mr. Cook we all have) as opposed to
the other clients and their genre work he knows he can
push (and get his commission). Who knows?

This was what I thought of when I heard the description
as well. I hope he can get it sold, as almost anything
would be better than the NetForce crap. The only reason
those things are seeing the printing press are because
Tom Clancy's name is attached (don't get me wrong, I
*like* Clancy, but the NetForce is by no means "Clancy").

Subject: (glencook-fans) Name hunt
Hello all,
I am new to the list. I have to admit a certain ignorance of Glenn Cook
books. The father of my daughter, however, is a fan of them. So much so that
our daughter is named after one of his characters. That is why I am posting
to the board. I am currently trying to find out where the name Amiranda
Starr originated from. Whether he made it up, or took it from some point in
history. Whatever it may be. I have attempted to do numerous online searches
on this. I have come up with the pages I have devoted to my daughter, and
quite a number of pages for people named A. Miranda. I would greatly
appriciate it if anyone could help me shed some light on this.
Thanks!
Juli
