  201. From what she's said about her sister (or Soulcatcher said about the
  202. Lady - forget which) a web of sorcery protected each again the other. 
  203. If either tried to harm the other magically the harmer would get smacked
  204. hard - which is why Lady needs a pawn (Croaker) to shoot arrows at her
  205. sister rather than smashing her magically.
  206. As for the Howler...
  207. He might come in useful some day and Lady isn't the sort to throw away a
  208. potential pawn.  That's why she didn't act against any of the Taken
  209. until it became clear that they were no longer useful.
  210. Take the Stormbringer / Shifter battle.  Lady watches, doing nothing, as
  211. the two battle it out.  When Shifter wins she realizes that he was using
  212. her a cat's paw to get close to Stormbringer as opposed to being her
  213. loyal servant, and with Stormbringer gone Shifter won't need her any
  214. more.  At least he won't need her walking around free - but if he
  215. tortures her enough she might teach him a few of the secrets she knows.
  216. So Shifter is now a direct threat to her and has to go - even though it
  217. means they may lose the next battle.
  218.  
  219. Another reason she might not want the Taken wiped out - they are the
  220. only ones who remember what she remembers.  Who else can remember the
  221. days of the Dominator and the world she grew up in?  They are a link to
  222. her past, her contemporaries.  With a lot of fiction concerning long
  223. lived enemies (vampires, immortals, things like that) the authors point
  224. out that after long enough everything becomes a love / hate
  225. relationship.  What good is a victory if your rivals can't see it, can't
  226. know that you've won?  I don't think Lady would tell anyone
  227. Soulcatcher's name (even if she could) because that would mean that
  228. someone other than the Lady could kill her.

  252. Name; and Lady has had her wizarding burnt out of her by the White Rose.

  256. would really like to get their hands on what's in Lady's head, but

  274. I went into the local book store the other day and found out the manager had
  275. passed away.  http://www.startribune.com/stories/466/895052.html  I had
  276. taken the day off to bring my youngest son to the heart clinic.  He passed
  277. and I had stopped by to check out the used Glen Cook books.  I scored a mint
  278. 1st edition copy of Starfishers and another copy of Sung in Blood.  I was
  279. excited to show off my score to Scott and saw the news.  If you never met
  280. Scott he was always one to want to know how your family was and what you
  281. were reading.  He always had recommendations and could answer any questions
  282. you had no matter how obscure.  He had the ability to find the book that you
  283. had read 20 years ago and only could provide a vague idea about the
  284. characters and the plot.  Science fiction has lost a great man and I will
  285. truly miss him.
