  28. I actually read Russian editions of "Black Company" and "Shadows
  29. Linger", they're surprisingly good... I don't know if Mr. Cook got
  30. anything as far as royalties go, but his books definetely have their
  31. share of popularity in Russia - and the people who translated them
  32. did an excellent job - I was delighted to read Russian version...
  33. I wonder what other countries BC series have been published in by now ?
  34. I'd be interested in seeing Spanish or French editions...

  202.     For those of you who don't know what EverQuest is...  It's
  203. a cool computer game in the Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing 
  204. Game (MMORPG) genre.  It's kind of like the old MUD computer games,
  205. or like an online D&D.  Thousands of people play online at the same
  206. time -- you can join in groups with the other people, talk with them,
  207. run around killing monsters, and so on.  It's quite fun, if you like
  208. that sort of thing (though be warned that it's also quite addictive
  209. and time consuming). 
  210.     If you see me on, give me a tell....  :-)
  211.  
  212.     I play EverQuest and may be interested in a Black Company
  213. guild.  I have characters on the Erollisi Marr and Morell-Thule
  214. servers.  I once tried to start characters named Croaker and
  215. Soulcatcher but the names were taken, so there are other fans
  216. on EQ as well.
  217.     I don't know that it's necessary to start guilds on every
  218. server at first (which seems like a lot of work) -- just get it
  219. started on one or a few and see how it goes.

  241. I had a few views on the Idea of a Black Company Guild in Everquest.
  242. First off, let me tell you I have been playing EQ since release and have off
  243. and on been playing recently.  If you have been playing any amount of time
  244. you know that the key to a strong guild is dedicated players. I belong to an
  245. Uber Guild on Saryn Server (I had originally been on Bristlebain server at
  246. release but movelogged when the opportunity arose) I think you would have
  247. more success organizing the Black Company guild on a single server that way
  248. you can pool all of your BC fans in one place. I have worn my self out on my
  249. characters and maybe a new character on a new server in a BC guild would be
  250. cool. Could even figure out a way to play tonk while medding and resting
  251. using the random number generator :-) .  Also if you didnt know there once
  252. was a REALLY good BC guild at the beta/early EQ release time they basically
  253. had people play specific characters from the books!  One Eye was an
  254. Enchanter(Erud), Goblin was a Wizard(gnome), Silent was a human Druid
  255. (remember the Stinging Swarm he used in Beryl?) Elmo was a Warrior, the
  256. Captain was a Paladin, Raven a ranger so on and so forth. Well in anyway I
  257. hope my two coppers is helpful to you.. let me know if you decide to create
  258. a
  259. BC guild and on what server.

  421. Back when I played Ultima Online the Black Company guild was strung out
  422. across most of it's servers in one strength or another. I fueded for a while
  423. with Croaker and One-Eye on the Nappa Valley server. I, of course, was
  424. Toadkiller Dog (evil, mean, and pk to boot).

  594. I don't Everquest (I have broken my MUD addictions!), however I do play
  595. something somewhat similar to a MUD.   I play on Dragon Court
  596. http://wild.ffiends.com/DCourt/Game.stm It is a daily game in which you have
  597. a limited number of actions each day that you can do.   It is nice in that
  598. it limits your actions, thus limiting your addiction.  :)
  599. There is a clan "The Black Company", however we were unable to get any
  600. communation going with them so I resently started the "Black Company"
  601. Soulcatcher and Moonbiter are the only two names I was able to get, though I
  602. have a Nakar as well.   Currently we only have members from New Mexico and
  603. our friends in Texas but we would gladly take in any Glen Cook fans who wish
  604. to join us.  :)

  668.     Welcome!  One thing to be aware of as a newbie is that the Glen
  669. Cook list's messages come in waves.  Sometimes we won't say anything for
  670. a week or two and then conversation will balloon into 10 messages per day
  671. for a week.  So, if it's quiet for a while it's nothing to worry about.

  693. I was looking through some old gaming books recently, and discovered (or
  694. re-discover) a Glen Cook reference.  It's in GURPS Fantasy second
  695. edition, pg 138, in a discusion on how magic changes the world.  In the
  696. battle magic section there's a section that reads:
  697. "But the world-builder must either accept wizards as the 'arm of
  698. decision' in any conflict, or create other limitaions on their power. 
  699. See Glen Cook's _Black Company_ series for a world in which wizards are
  700. decisive in open battle, but still need the support of spies and
  701. armies."
