Cool! That feature I put in to break ultrafractal worked!* ;-)
They probably didn't work because ultrafractal isn't compatible with
fractint 20.0, its only compatible with some previous version.

By the way, periodicity=3D-256 makes no sense. (Read your Fractint.doc f=

And of course now there's passes=d which is as accurate as passes=1 but
gives you a decent preview much faster than any other pass method.

Yep, I noticed this as new with fractint 20 so it slipped my mind when
I wrote that message ;-).

FWIW, there are a couple of work arounds to the above mentioned bug - in
case anyone else has not yet figured it out.
1. When opening the restored screen, have a finger hovering over the zoom
box (page up) key. As soon as the image is on screen, hit the zoom box,
that will freeze the evolver program, so to speak, and the zoom box may
then be moved to where ever you want to go as normal.
2. I do not think the image is completely lost even if evolver is allowed
to run "losing" the info which was there. Exiting Fractint, then looking at
the saved .gif files shows the image is still there as originally placed,
and the original reappears on starting over. If you want the image which
evolver wants to replace, go back to option one and practice your fast draw.
3. You can also note the saved image thumbnail screen, exit Fractint, copy
the image to another folder, and if you do lose the image for whatever
reason, it can be recopied back into Fractint and run as normal. But again,
you finger might have to hit the zoom box fast.
I have done all three, including completely deleting the evolver thumbnail
image from Fractint, exiting, restarting Fractint, pasting the image back
in, and it works fine.
Again, the above FWIW and until the bug is fixed.

I'm an art type...so I'll take a stab at answering. A fractal I REALLY like usually
takes me anywhere from 1-3 hours. The shorter time reflects starting with an
existing image...and the latter, starting from a formula and puttering.
My collection of Fractint stuff is at
http://wizzle.simplenet.com/fractals/fractalintro.htm
One of the real keys to Fractint for me is a good color map, and I have some hints at
my site in that area that may be of help.

peart01 is a drum solo ;-), Sounds like Neil Peart of Rush.
td01 reminds me of some Tangerine Dream compositions.

Subject: (fractint) Movie?
Hi everybody, hi fractal-fanatics!
Can anybody advise me a simple program with I can make a film to jump into
the deepest part of the Mandelbrot? I have fractfly, and anifra, but these
(my version) can't work with arbitrary prec. or with the 20.0 Fractint. Is
it possible to add a random number parameter to the lsystems witch make from
the Koch curve a "seacoast" like curve? Something like plasma but in 1 (and
a little) dimension. Thanks: Laszlo

Hi Miguel,
I liked your 2 music pars. In particular, I loved the TD01 (Tangerine
Dream) which is a great music par. It has the quality of violins, and i=
s
quite different from other Fractint music pars that I've heard.
Cheers,

Hi, Miguel!
Nice music! First one really made me think of Peart, specially when =

Second reminded me of TD, of course, but in a way merged with Fripp and =

Subject: (fractint) Fractal-Art '99 Contest Update
Greetings folks,
Votes are flowing in steadily, there are about seventy currently. However,
as has been observed, the voting deadline is coming up fast and most people
have not received their CDs yet, nor have downloadable files been made
available.
I can assure everyone that this has been for a variety of good reasons, but
the details would likely bore everyone here. CDs are being made and sent,
and I've posted downloadable versions of the contest site here:
http://www.fractalus.com/contest99/download.htm
The site may be downloaded in a single 76M gulp, or as several smaller files.
Due to the delay in getting CDs and download packs out, I want to extend
voting one more week. I know people are anxious to see the results, but
this seems like the fairest thing to do for people who have waited for
their CD or downloadable site before trying to cast votes. It took me
several hours of looking through images to make my decisions, I don't
expect anyone to finish the job in one sitting (although if they do that's
great).

Miguel,
The more you listen to them the better they sound. I liked very much
meditation _1, it has a melody you can sing along. And I laughed at
Turbulent Bells... It really seems like Oldfield's leit motif... but drunk
;-)
And growth has a rhythm that accompanies the tidal waves that this fractal
generates. It's very nice :))
There will be a time when I can devote to fractals as much as you ALL do,
but today it seems a little difficult to me to make room for all... Instead
I enjoy YOURS, and I mean it :))
As "someone" said before: ... (clap! clap!) Good Show!
Keep on amazing us, and thank you!

I have a copy of the FractInt (for DOS) v19.6 source code. I was
wondering if anyone can tell me where I can find:
a) The Arbitary Math code
b) The GIF load/save code
I've written this ray-tracer (inspired by POV-Ray) and I want to add
a GIF output option. Thanks.
P. S. I always seem to recieve mail from this list over night (except
the echos of my own mail, which arrive in a matter of 5 minuites). Is
everyone else in a different time zone to me or something? I'm over

It is impossible to decide at one sitting, as you will realise the more you
look the more you see in each. And you may not realise it but after several
hours at the screen you see more than is there! I know that if I rush my
decision may be faulty.
Make that extra week so.
