Please report this to the bug report web page. It's OK to discuss
bugs here but don't assume that discussing them here means we
see the messages. (Very often we don't read all the messages.)
The bug report page is:

Hi Alice,
>Is there a way to investigate more than one window per screen?
Yep, if you hit 'S' when a selection box isn't showing, i.e. before hitting
pageup, you should save the whole set and be able to reload it later to
carry on exploring the parameter space.
Hope this helps,
Robin.
P.S. I'm thinking of adding the capability of storing the evolver details
in
a par file, could be useful :-)

I have traced this down to an optimization we made to the fast
(assembler) parser. We can fix this by backing out the
optimization. Meanwhile adding the debug=90 option works around
the bug by disabling the fast parser.
I also want to do some tests of complex formulas that aren't broken
to see if the optimization buys us much speed.
Thanks very much to Mark and Kerry. I'd very much like to hear of
any other formulas that behave differently between 19.6 and 20.0.

Subject: (fractint) Fractint Screen Saver version 2.00 released.
Fractint Screens Saver is a Windows screen saver that displays images
that Fractint creates in the background, You select wich pars Fracint
shall play.
Today I have released version 2.00. You can get it at
http://home.sol.no/~thbernt/fintsave.htm
<http://home.sol.no/~thbernt/fintsave.htm>
This is a almost complete rewrite of the old screen saver. I have tested
it under Windows 95,98 and NT, and it seems to run better than earlier.
I have added a few new options. The most interesting must be the save
images/screens option.
If You download it I will be glad to hear from You! Please tell me if
You have any problems, suggestions etc. (You can even tell me if You
liked it or not...)

Sorry to tell you but the site does not work for me - I do not speak
Norwegian and apparently the site has nothing to do with Fractint anyway.
Probably a simple typo.

If any of the FractInt developers are interested, I know what you
need to send down a MIDI cable to get notes to play. I don't know how
to operate a PC's MIDI hardware/software, and I don't know the MIDI
file format, but I know what binary signals are needed. Anyone
interested?

Does anyone know what colouring algorithm was used to create this
thing? It looks like an M set, but I don't recognize the colour

Tim:
I found this free screen saver on an old CD-ROM. I think the type of fractal
it uses would be a nice addition to fractint, if someone knows how to
program it.
Cheers.

It's based on Kerry Mitchell's Triangle Inequality Method. Kerry posted his
formula for doing this to this list a while back; there's a slightly
different version in my formula file, available here:

I have tried that, but the link to MakeMap
(http://members.aol.com/RBarn0001/makemap.zip)
leads to an error message. Thanks anyway.

This thing was made of twu layers, one of these layers uses Kerry
Mitchell's "Triangle Inequality" color algorithm.
You can see some Fractint images based on this method (check out
gallet_c.zip on my Downloads page).
Cheers,

Content-description: Mail message body
Hello all,
Perhaps you have (or have not) been wondering what the "inside=fmod"
option added to Fractint v20 is capable of. In answer to that question, here is
a PAR file containing 9 images using that option...
This is my first attempt at the art side of fractals (I usually stick to the
mathematics). It has taken me nearly 5 hours to produce EACH of the 9
images in this collection! I'm sure that is awfully long - could any of the
regular PAR contributers give me an idea of their average image creation
time?
Thanks,
Iain.

Very nice images, Ian. They look like as if they were truecolor, am I right?
They didn┤t work in Ultrafractal, though. I wanted to play with layers. Does
anybody know why?
Bresslau.

There are a variety of techniques, here are some off the top of my
head:
- --- Browse in a low-resolution video mode until you've selected a
palette and coloring options that you like, then shift to a higher
resolution video mode for final rendering.
- --- Use the view window screen ('v' menu) to select a portion of the
screen for rendering. This doesn't involve a change in video mode, it
uses a subset of the available pixels in your current video mode.
- --- Use solid guessing or tesseral rendering styles from the 'x' menu
even when you know that its inaccurate for the specific fractal type.
You'll pick up the lost detail upon final rendering.
- --- When solid guessing or tesseral rendering is too egregiously
erroneous for one's sensibilities, use passes=3. Passes=3 does all
the same things passes=1 does, but it gives you three progressively
refined scans instead of one fully-defined scan.
- --- For slow formula types, borrow a technique from computer science
called 'strength reduction'. What you do is look over your formula
code for repeatedly calculated subexpressions and compute them once,
sticking them into a variable which you use where the expressions
originally appeared. Exploit trigonometric or geometric identities to
simplify expressions, or eliminate them entirely. Fractint does a
good job at compiling formulas and optimizing them in a very low-
level manner, but it doesn't have a knowledge of geometry or
trigonometry to be able to reduce complexity in a user-defined
formula.
- --- Browse at low resolution saving par's along the way and render
the pars over night at higher resolution. ;-)
