Aha! That's not in the docs. I tried to follow the
pattern and used MAPFILE=c:\fractint\mymaps but it
didn't work, of course. Now it's fixed, thanks!

Actually, it didn't. But thanks anyway. I think
I have found a solution to my problem: a program
called Map Generator, which allows me to enter
the colours in familiar 0-255 RGB mode and then
outputs the map to Fractint format. Do you know it?

You might also try Ron Barnett's utility program "MakeMap".

I have tried that, but the link to MakeMap

Paul, I've been looking for Ron Barnett's MakeMap since I lost it in the
Great Crash of '98. (My backup disk wouldn't copy, either. It was corrupted,
maybe from age?) Following the links on the site you mentioned doesn't
lead to the program. Clicking on Barnett's link, it says that it can't be
found. I couldn't find it on CompuServe, either.
Making maps is one of my pleasures with Fractint. I really would like to
replace MakeMap in my collection of programs. It was effective, yet simple
enough to use for the newbie I was then.
Well, back to the search for it.
Marie :)

Bill, giving the sound demo a try was a BIG mistake!
Between making and playing your music, and watching new fractals evolve,
I've not been able to get back to the basics.
The music is a wonderful addition. I've been running the program whenever I
have a free moment, and even when I don't<G>

I have a copy of Mapeng2.zip, a map generator. If you want you can ask
for it (privately), and I'll mail it to you. However, if you prefer to
download it from the web, go to http://members.tripod.com/softwork/map.

Sound pars 4 and 5 are very ambient and nice. How do you export a sound
par file into a MIDI format? I would like to open them in Media Player
or a suitable sequencing program.

There are several programs that generate fractint maps, try these links:

http://www.hiddendimension.com/futils.htm
http://members.tripod.com/softwork/map
The map editor that is built into fractint allows you to create maps by directly
entering numbers, however I think you enter numbers between 0 - 63, for example,
if you enter 10 20 30, it will actually write 40 80 120 to the map file, so
this is probably not what you want.

The Internet convention on text line widths is 72 characters/line. Since
your pars came through XML-formatted, though, they were received in times
roman (and too wide for the default width on my email client). (I have no
idea why the reply is linebreaked like that).

didn┤t work. My soundcard is duplex (or something simmilar) and I heard this
should work. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the same recorder with another source?
More than likely, you need to check your mixer

Unless you have your PC speaker routed through your soundcard, the window=
s =
recorder - or any other for that matter - will not even know it's there.
So for testing just make sure that the sound you are hearing is coming =
through the sound card, and not your PC speaker.

Hi Luc-Andre,
I accept 3rd place to Sylvie and Lee. 8^)
I really haven't made my new galleries public, but you can have a look at:

Be sure to check out the fractal music as well, guaranteed to be unlike any you've ever heard.
Regards,

Hi folks,
Here's a good starting point for evolver...
If you've not tried this new feature of v20.0 just load up the par then press
Alt-1.
Also try Alt-2, 3, 4 etc. to vary the degree of randomness
Have fun,

Subject: (fractint) Parameter Explorer question
Please forgive me if this question has already been asked. I have just
set up the new Fractint and I am extremely impressed with the Parameter
Explorer feature. I have one question. Say I have generated a screenful
of image windows, and there are two or three that I desperately wish to
see and/or save. As far as I can tell, I only have the option of looking
at and saving one small window, and the others are gone for all time. Is
there a way to investigate more than one window per screen? Thank
you.--Alice

Good news (and bad news)...
Just save the Evolver screen as you would a normal image. When you restore the
image you can carry on and explore any of the cells you wish.
The bad news, however, is that sometimes (in my experience) the restored screen
starts mutating all over again and there is no chance of getting back any of the
images! This happens to about one in four of the evolver screens that I save. I
should report this as a bug (Robin are you reading??).
cheers, Les
