  517. Well, while you're waiting for those contest entries to
  518. show up, take a look at these!    I've been inserting
  519. short formulas into the iteration parts of the coloring methods
  520. formulas.  Sometimes it works fantastically, sometimes it doesn't

  654. that if you trim the line lengths to a medium length
  655. in PFE or wordpad before you put them into the
  656. netscape composition then netscape doesn't mangle them
  657. with the double spaces and you have control of not
  658. putting the \ in the middle of the <>.

  855. More fun with lines and circles.  These methods monitor the orbit
  856. of the standard Mandelbrot and Julia calculations and bail out if
  857. the orbit falls between two curves.

  859. In the "ring" formulas, the orbit is trapped between two concentric
  860. circles.  The circles can be specified generally with the center and
  861. the 2 radii.  A special case is the "ringc" formulas.  Here, the
  862. center of the circles is the parameter "c", and the radii are entered
  863. in terms of cabs(c).

  865. In either case, the 2 circles are identified by:
  866.  
  867.         |z - center| = |radius1|, and
  868.         |z - center| = |radius2|.

  870. So it is sufficient to check |z - center| to see if it falls in the
  871. range of |radius1| to |radius2|.  Exactly where in this range it falls
  872. is scaled and used as the angle for the "decomp=256" coloring scheme.
