Thanks for the help :)
BTW, since i wasn't trying to create an orginal formula, how do i know if
somebody hasn't already created this formula (the messed up one)?

Subject: Re: (fractint) shell to dos
I have a question concerning in-memory graphics saving. Does fractint
reserve some memory but the graphical memory to save the picture? If not
(and that's what I guess), could this be done? So when, for some reason,
when the picture is clobbered, a refresh could be made quickly. Not
spontaneously of course, but a key could be assigned for a refresh. This
would allow us fractalers to do (1) anything involving graphics in the dos
shell, (2) allow us to multitask in windows without wasting the image.

However, under Win95, it does work. Does fractint read the comspec
environment variable? I think I tried using that, but had no success...
( <<<<
It seems to me fractint checks neither shell= nor comspec=.
By the way, a free conventional memory space of less than ~ 580 kB? I
personally load a lot of drivers, but never get under 625 kB! Don't you make
use of exp/ext mem?

The problem is *not* video card related at all. Fractint just omits any
saving of video information. It leaves the graphical memory area unchanged
and if during the shell period this part of memory is changed, fractint just
puts the changed part back on the screen. Yes, it is because of bad memory
management. Caused by fractint though!
For one, Angela once said in the context of the multithreading/multitasking
discussion that when focussing on another windows app when being in
fractint, the colors were mixed up when returning to fractint. This is
general for graphical dos apps under windows. In these cases it would be
unfair to point at the dos app as guilty though. But actually the same thing
happens as in the clobbering: the current video info is not correctly saved,
and overwritten. But this is not related to your video card.

Let's avoid conflicts that may arise by calling the changed version
jcamp03pc as the older one has already been posted and already in use by
several artists.

Alice tried to make this posting on May 12. No one commented on it, and
after I searched my mail files, we decided her posting may never have
made it to the Fractint List. She also hasn't received any mail from
the list in quite awhile, and can't seem to re-sub. She'll be working
on that little problem : )
Anyway, to make a long story short (er), I'm posting the message for
her. Her page is terrific! Don't miss it!

My first guess would be that you're at the limits of floating-point

Anti-aliasing has been around for a while, it's used quite a bit in all

I just put up my anti-aliasing description page:

Frederik Slijkerman talks about anti-aliasing on the Ultra Fractal pages:

Thanks, Bill! Here's another batch, using my 3Way
rendering method. Nothing spectacular, but kind of
different. It's interesting to compare the effects
of the different methods on the same formula. I
would have used the same coordinates for the images
in all 3 sets of renderings, but the interesting spots
moved around, depending on the rendering method.

This formula applies my 3Way rendering method to the
popcorn formula. These pars, like the other popcorn
pars I've posted, are best viewed at 1024x768 resolution,
although 800x600 will do (there's a lot of very fine
detail).

Beautiful images, Linda! I may have forgotten to mention it
before - when using FlexBall rendering with many Msets, including
the Mandelbrot set, at the "center" of every flexball (where the
eight segments meet at a point when p1 equals p2) is a little
midget that becomes visible when p2 is less than p1 (it may
take considerable zooming). In this par I've zoomed into the
center of one of the flexballs in your 06019802 par and reduced
p2 from 0.08 to 0.04. The image came out rather nice, I think,
thanks to your beautiful colormap.

From: Corey Reed <cjreed@earthlink.net>
Subject: (fractint) can anyone help?
I was wondering if I could use Fractint to generate a Poincare map (a slice
of the phase space) for the following system:
D2(x) + x = a sin(theta)
D2(theta) = b x cos(theta)
where D2( . ) is the second derivative with respect to time.
Making the substitution y = D1(x) and phi = D1(theta), the system has 4
dimensions, so obviously I need Poincare maps to get a look at the phase
space. The full system looks like
D(x) = y
D(y) = -x + a sin(theta)
D(theta) = phi
D(phi) = b x cos(theta)
I can do the iteration numerically like this:
x(t + dt) = x(t) + dt * y(t)
y(t + dt) = y(t) + dt * ( -x(t) + a * sin( theta(t) ) )
theta(t + dt) = theta(t) + dt * theta(t)
phi(t + dt) = phi(t) + dt * ( b * x(t) * cos( theta(t) ) )
Still with me? :) Anyway, I want to use Fractint to plot these iterations
somehow. I tried to make my own function file, but I'm not trying to plot a
singe number on the complex plane, so I don't know how to use that feature.
Is there anyway I can do this, or should I turn to Mathematica?
Thanks!!!
