Picked up "The Big Latin Sound" LP which has very dry, pedestrian =
arrangments. They even screw up The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!
Mission:Impossible is given a decent treatment.=20
I think my Mancini appreciation level has dropped considerably. =20

Mancini works best with a smaller "combo" IMHO...Practically all his other
stuff is great..especially '68 and before (although I like "10" <from '78>for
the disco track called "Get It On")..JB

Looks like we have another BJ on the line...

Blasphemer! Do not take the sacred name of BJ in vain! Remember always Her devotion to St. Walter of Wanderly, Her sagacious advice, and infinite Exotica knowledge ~~ which all too often was derided and laughed at!
BJ has many devoted followers who lurk upon this list, BJ's Friki Tiki Boys, keeping track of the numerous blasphemies against Her. Beware, lest all your prized rekkids end up in the fireplace grate, a mass of flaming, melting vinyl!
Consider this your only warning!

Just got back from vacation and picked up a couple of things. Listening to to a Universal import of Jane Birkin. Seems like a comp disk in a series featuring many French artists. I've really been interested in French music lately and noticed that at least 2 of the songs are classical music tunes.
Haven't popped this in yet...."Talkin' Verve Groovy" a comp of cool jazz dudes like Jimmy Smith and Willie Bob covering now classic 60's tunes.

Slack is good. So is civility. Breach that, face the

case indicates the delete option is effective.
That typed, I applaud what I assume is JB's dry humor.

Well, we can only hope that her pronunciation has dramatically improved since the "Serge years" [grin]...of course the bad French was always part of her charm.

If you find yourself getting fond of FrogPop, you may also want to consider picking up a Franτoise Hardy compilation. She's quite folk-rocky and her lyrics are a bit melancholy...not a bit like Serge who's almost dada at times:
"I come and go, between your kidneys. I come and go..."

What a gentleman, and with a fine sense of humor, I might add. He is very proud to be re-issuing his great classic soundtracks like Mannix and Bullitt. And the new versions ROCK!
> The WDR Big Band is outstanding, with BIG KAHUNAS!, and it seems they have a great affinity for Mr. Schifrin and his style of music. These CDs are, as Darrell Brogdon has pointed out, on the Aleph Record label, which is owned and operated by Donna Schifrin, Lalo's wife, and was launched when LS was unable to gain the publishing rights to his work. Many of the smaller record labels he had recorded with have long since been usurped by big business conglomerates, further complicating his efforts.Clint Eastwood, who owns the rights to the "Dirty Harry" soundtracks was the only guy who 'stepped up' to work a deal.

Definately get Bullitt and Mannix, but don't overlook Jazz Goes to Hollywood, cause it's got "Down Here on the Ground" from "Cool Hand Luke", the theme to the "Cincinnati Kind", "That Night" from "The Fox", a couple of selections from "Once a Thief", and the most INCREDIBLE version of "The Cat", from the picture "Joy House" that you can imagine. I'm not joking here. The Hammond B3 player, Frank Chastenier, from the WDR Big Band is UNREAL! Wah wah wah! Go! Also, great guest solos by Ernie Watts on tenor, Sandra Booker vocals, and Nils Landgren on Trombone. The

Mr. Lalo even played some "Mission Impossible" riffs on his piano during the taping. Whoa! Very cool, Lalo. Check it all out at www.jetsetair.com, on the coolest show in the world, "IN FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT".
