Regarding the Cleveland idea...
My parents live in Cleveland. When Dana and I go to Kahiki, we usually
drive to Columbus from Chicago (6 hours or so), then drive up to Cleveland
to sleep after Kahiki closes and boots us out.
It is about 110-120 miles, one freeway, straight shot. It usually takes us
1.5 - 2 hours, doing 70-75 on the freeway. Add some time driving during
the day.

Where has this guy been? How would someone so paranoid be able to buy
anything on eBay? Or even send an email for that matter?
Ofcourse if we harrass him a little it would only prove to him that his
paranoia is true and possibly start some killing rampage.

Thanks for all your sympathies! As for the spam prank idea, well... you
have all the details, but I think he's not worth the effort. In any
case, please keep in mind that Katja would like to stay on ebay!!!
A friend of us suggested this Ron Mason sounds like he's
80 years old and we should send him a mail, threatening him to inform
our military about him and make them send a V2 rocket directly to his
house. I bet he would take it serious.
Indiadelta is taken from the international spelling alphabet and stands
for ID. Katja's second name is Schmid, the most common German name, that
also exists in different spelling versions, like Schmidt, Schmit,
Schmitt, Schmied. So when Katja tells someone her name she always has to
add: Schmid with ID, like india delta. Incedently ID stands for
identity, and in German it sounds like Idee = idea, connotations that
you can't resist.

Subject: (exotica) [obit]Aligi Sassu,Neuma Goncalves da Silva
MADRID, Spain (AP) - Italian painter, sculptor and engraver Aligi Sassu, a
pioneer of Italian contemporary art, died in his home on the Spanish
Mediterranean island of Mallorca. He was 88.
Sassu died Monday on his birthday, after suffering from a lengthy illness, said
Ruben Avida, a regional government spokesman. The cause of death was not
immediately known.
Sassu, who was most famous for his futurist painting and work with ceramics,
sculpture and engraving, started in the world of art as a teen-ager, exhibiting
his work at a Milan gallery in 1927.
He was soon widely accepted in the futurist movement, which emphasized the
dynamism, speed and power of the machine. He also wrote a movement manifesto
called ``Dynamism and Muscular Strength.''
Sassu went to Paris in the 1930s where he studied Impressionist masters,
abandoning futurism and moving towards post-impressionism.
He and his wife, Colombian singer Helenita Olivares, lived for 40 years in the
Spanish village of Pollenza, 36 miles south of Palma de Mallorca. They had no
children.
Among Sassu's most famous paintings are the 1931 ``Uomini Rossi'' or ``Red
Men'' and the 1944 ``Martiri di Piazzale Loreto'' or ``Martyrs on Piazzale
Loreto.''
His remains were to be cremated on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife.
AP-NY-07-18-00 0902EDT
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Neuma Goncalves da Silva, the so-called ``first
lady of samba'' who was a mainstay of an elite Rio parade group for Carnival,
died Monday after a stroke. She was 78.
Goncalves was the eldest daughter of Saturnino Goncalves, who founded Rio's
traditional Mangueira samba school - actually a neighborhood association - in
the Mangueira hill shantytown in 1928, along with legendary composers Cartola
and Carlos Cachaca.
Known universally by her courtesy title ``Dona Neuma,'' Goncalves used her
house as a meeting point for composers, and she was one of the rare female
directors of the school.
More than a performer, Goncalves was sort of an elder stateswoman for
Mangueira. She was a member of the ``Velha Guarda'' or Old Guard, comprised of
the oldest and most prestigious members, and consulted on issues involving the
school.
The ``first lady'' title stuck after Goncalves set up a visit to Mangueira by
Maria Teresa Goulart, the wife of President Joao Goulart, who governed Brazil
from 1962-64.

Subject: (exotica) A "Hellers" question
I may be able to purchase a 3 record set by the Hellers called something
like "a Hellers Corporation New Production" or something like that (I don't
have the title with me at the moment). The records are 10" and it is a promo
copy.
Anyone out there know anything about this? Is it any good? I have "Singers,
Talkers, Players etc.", which is fantastic, but I'm having a hard time
scratching up info on this one. But I want to make an informed purchase, not
a roll of the dice.
If anyone can help, it is you guys and gals. Thanks to those who can in
advance.

Space Bop #102 All Systems Are Go-Go
We've been spending the past few days glued to the CD player listening
to this compilation that Ursula 1000 put together - it's so well done
that we thought we'd treat our listeners and play as much of it as we
can this week. (We'd have played it in its entirety, but we only have 60
minutes on air...)
All tracks are from the Ursula 1000 CD "All Systems Are Go-Go" on ESL
records.
ECD: Direct Drive (The Ready Made All That Jazz Remix)
Le Hammond Inferno: Margret Evening Fashion
Skeewiff: Skeewiff Vs. Big Les
Lemon: Mr. Bongo
Jadell: Hell Yeah!
Hardwire: The Connection
Kings Of The Wild Frontier: Trans Am
Trio Eletrico: Good Times Machine
Akakage: She Is A Pretty Girl
The Scammers: Sally's Walk
Montparnasse: Hugo
General Narco: 60's Porno Bird
El Loco Gringo: Watchuwanna

going on here that there's hardly been time to shop.

just a moment.
We just can't thank all you Jet Setters enough for going
to www.JetSetAir.com and giving up your e-mails and

get ready for some dancin' in the aisles, on a show we
call "In Flight A' Go-Go". We're happy to have New York
Hipster Pete Belasco on board with music from his
critically acclaimed CD, "Get It Together". And why not?
Together is good. At least from Pete's point of view. A
very groovy interview with a very sweet guy. Just click
here! http://www.JetSetAir.com/shows/current/index.html
The Count and the Captain, between much head-rubbing and
general cocktail conundrum, have put together some of
the best music yet, (well, it's only the second show),
but this show really makesus want to get up and shake
our BOOTY'S.
And Rick has picked out a really great "Drink of the
Week" called the Polka Dot Bikini. It's very light,
perfect for apres' dancing and carrying on.
Don't forget the "Groovy Movie", one of the all time
greatest with admittedly the best party scene ever, The
Party, starring Peter Sellers and Claudine Longet, with
music by Henry Mancini.
And last but not least, our first week's winners in our
random CD Giveaway drawings were: Don McCaw, Golden, CO
and Eric Taub, Boston, Mass. Congratulations, guys! And
to everyone else, be sure to register for the Cocktail
Napkin at http://www.JetSetAir.com/newsletter/index.html

Cheryl. Brian and Everyone...Ursala 1000 performed last night here at Br.
Cleve's new club called "Lilli's" The show was a dance-floor packer almost
from Jump Street. The Ursala 1000 nationwide tour, sponsored by 18th Street
Lounge Records, begins in about a week. Its something like 30 cities, so keep
an eye on your local listings
I also featured the new mix on my show last week. I just let it rip starting
at track 3. That's good for about 56 minutes. The show features a constant
stream of really amazingly good latinized and pop-flavored funky breakbeat
stuff...JB

Subject: Re: (exotica) A "Hellers" question
I just posted about this last week - a 7 and half minute homage is paid to
the Hellers on my guest hour on the Friendly Persuasion show. I think it
runs til tomorrow night - go listen to track 16 and see what you think. Some
of what you hear is from the "Johnny Spots, Private Ear" which is a Heller
Ferguson record, but not in the set you describe.
http://www.antennaradio.com/punk/friendlypersuasion/index.htm
Here is what I wrote for the track list notes:
16. HELLER-FERGUSON MONTAGE
Hugh Heller, Allyn Ferguson, Dave Williams, Jacques Wilson, Dick
Hamilton, Allan Davies, Jules Chaikin
Featuring Marty Paich, The Hi-Los and The Johnny Mann Singers
Johnny Spots, Private Ear / Creative Freakout Advertising Songs (The Heller
Corporation / Brief Records)
A seven and a half minute tribute to one of my all-time favorites. The
Heller Corporation was in the business of producing creative sound
commercials and thematic identification music for television and radio.
Aside from one excellent release on the Command label, Singers, Talkers,
Players, Swingers and Doers, recordings by The Hellers are very scarce as
they were promotional items (typically seven and ten inch records) never
intended for public sale. This mix features the voice of Johnny Spots,
"Private Ear" who is played by Ben Chandler. I've woven his smooth narration
in and out of radio station breaks for various cities and some highly
entertaining commercials.
This is nothing like the incredible Singers, Talkers, Doers, etc. it's
completely different. So you may be in for a let down if you expect
something along those lines. This is ad agency promotional material.
That's what the Hellers did - make jingles / spots / commercials for TV and
radio. these records are examples of what they can do - and they do it very
well - and were sent to potential clients.
You won't have many opportunties to purchase this so I say DO IT NOW :)
I'm nuts for this stuff - I'm pumped just sitting here writing about them.
I'll glady take it off your hands if you are disappointed - even tho I
already have it. Name your price. So you've got nothing to lose.

Subject: (exotica) The Tiki Room Newsletter: Issue #17
For those interested in the Tiki Room at DL:
Hello Fellow Friend of the Tiki Room!
Welcome to Issue #17! We just welcomed our 3,300th Tiki Friend to the
group in the last update. We are now well over 3,300 strong. And this
mailing list has nearly 1,600 subscribers! Today's Issue is quite short,
compared to others...Enjoy, and Thanks!
**********The Tiki News**********
- - The Tiki Room hasn't been this good in a long, long time! The daily
visitor numbers have doubled. Why? Well, there are a few reasons:
*Indiana Jones was just added to the FastPass System. (For more info on
the system itself, visit my FastPass page at
http://www.geocities.com/disneyguy55/fastpass.html ) This means that
guests are in the Adventureland area with some extra time to kill. Where
are they spending it? In the Tiki Room!
*The Tiki Room's sign has been taken down. The sign's bamboo had rotted
away, and it was taken down back earlier this spring. However, it turns
out the sign had been blocking the visibility of the Tiki Room from the
sidewalk. People unfamiliar with the area had no idea there was anything
more than a Dole Juice Bar right there. Now that the sign is gone, the
entire front face of the Tiki Room is clearly visible and guests are
pouring in. So, it seems that once the sign was taken down, more people
starting showing up! Now, if this isn't a stroke of irony, I don't know
what is. Let's hope that when the new sign is put up, they do a better job
of keeping visibilty in mind.
According to many first hand accounts, the Tiki Room is looking and
sounding wonderful. Mechanical problems that used to take away from the
enjoyment of the show are gone and things are a-OK.
