My impression has been that this album was part of a low-budget label bandwagon following the popularity of Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66. However it's truly a good album considering the already great talent of Joe Loco. It also has quite a few tracks that always get people dancing, seemingly no matter what the situation I find myself in when I play songs from it. "Bang Bang" is great, "Oh Yeah" is great, plus many others. Anyone know if there were any other Joe Loco records similar to this one? I've yet to run across any.

for the tiki handy man -- the man of the house here filled that very same cheap
plastic mask shown in above URL (also available in party goods stores) with
quick set cement. Made a super, fully detailed cement tiki in minutes. Repeated
procedure. Many tiki heads are now scattered throughout the back yard, and I
hope to round them up soon to line the sides of a tiki built-in BBQ.

capabilities.

As much as I would like to take credit for this idea, I can't.  I was simply the
recipient of a previously made mask, and I've forgotten the name of the person who
originally made it.

I might have to make a concrete mask myself though.  I'd love to take one of the
trashed copies of a Martin Denny LP from my collection, break it into smaller
pieces, and then lay those pieces in the tiki mask mold before pouring the concrete
in.  I like the idea of adding 'pieces of sound' to the overall sculpture
atmosphere. It might even be neat to have a whole row of concrete heads, each one
made up of LP fragments from a different exotica artist.

you can find 'em @ cordinternational.com  "Lei of
Stars" is the best of comp from this series. They also
have "History of Hawaiian Steel Guitar" and "Legends
of Falsetto." One of my faves is "Myrtle K. Hilo: The
Singing Cab Driver." They carry our reissue of "Duke
Kahanamoku Presents A Beachboy Party" too.

in Columbus?

And also, a comment on the suggestion to fly into Cleveland and drive to
Columbus?  I understand the comment but that seems like a cumbersome way to
get to Columbus.

As you can gather, I am planning on going and made my reservation with
"Alice" at the Kahiki yesterday.  Anyone else going?  If you want to

 Holiday Motel  4420 E. Main St.  [phone]  Looks very nice and
 "Vintage" style
 Cable TV/HBO, Air Conditioning and King Size and Waterbeds available.

 Brookside Motel  3020 E. Main ST.  [phone]  Very nice vintage motel
 with a nice old sign out front.  Looks very clean and has a Skyline Chili
 nearby "yum yum."  Also this one is located 2 blocks from James Rd., which
 will take you to E. Broad and to the Kahiki in less than 5 minutes!!!

 The top three are the nicer ones.  Below are the remaining Motels in the
 area...

 Capitol Motel  3045 E. Main St.  [phone]  Nothing special but close
 to James Rd.
 Casa Villa Motel  3969 E.Main St.  (definitely nothing special)  (614)
 237-5457
 Colonial Motel  4165 E. Main St.  (pretty basic)  [phone]
 Columbus Motor Lodge  3984 E.Main St.  pretty basic  [phone]
 Motel One  3190 E. Main St.  [phone]  Very Run Down (avoid at all
 costs)
 Super Moter Lodge  4444 E Main St.  [phone]  Looks pretty rundown as
 well

 ON EAST BROAD..

 Ramada Inn East  4801  E.Broad St.  [phone]  nothing fancy and about
 2 miles from the Kahiki.

 That's about it for Motels near the Kahiki.  I personally would chose one of
 the top three with the Brookside Motel probably being my favorite just for
 convenience.  Also I noticed near the 3300 block of East Main St. was a
 strip joint called the Mirage that has an old palm tree sign out front
 (nice).

yeah, its the animated egg tracks repackaged. theres i think three

Psychedelic Guitars" that looked really cool.  Anybody have that??

yeah "More Psychedelic Guitars" is another fake psych thing. no fuzz and
its JUST ok (in my opinion).

Columbus has an international airport
Ironically it is very hard to get a direct flight into Columbus which
is why I proposed the Cleveland route in the first place, heck if you
are going to have to sit in an airport for one hour to and fro you
may as well grab a cheaper flight and drive for 2 hours I thought!

I've since been informed that the Cleveland route is not a good choice
The drive is at least two hours maybe as much as three

So, we're saying this is actually a band called "The Animated Egg??"

The vocals are in a strange key, the guy's voice is a little weird - but I =
liked "Up Up and Away" and a few of the vocal numbers - the instros are =
fun.

Columbus is a LONG way from Cleveland.  2.5 hours sounds about right.
You could come into Cinci instead, which is only about an 1:15 away...

Repackaging The Animated Egg (Astro Sounds with no strings) also shows up on
an LP that Jack Diamond turned me onto.

It's called "Call It Soul"! by Haircuts and the Impossibles (Somerset
SF-33400).  I think there are two or three - maybe even four tracks from the
Animated Egg album with different titles.

this whole thing was crazy.  i got a flight on Delta round trip from
Charleston to Columbus for $ 237 (which is cheap because Charleston is an
expensive city to fly in/out of).

In one of the South Sea cultures they had a hidden little closet on top of
the head of the their sacred ancestor's figures, where they collected
powder from the bones of that ancestor. Usually this closet was actually
closed, but for some special reasons it could be reopened.

well, the vocal tracks definitely arent them, but the instro ones are.
the AE have a full length album on the same label thats pretty rad. its
the entire basis for the famous Astro Sounds 101 Strings lp. they just
added like phasers and moogs and whatever and retitled the songs. the
Astro Sounds one ended up way too "whiney" sounding though. something
about the mix ...

sorry, if this is off-topic, but as many of you are using ebay frequently,
you might enjoy this story.

This is what happened to my girlfriend Katja:

A week ago or so ebay Germany finally went together with ebay
international, i.e. with ebay US/UK. All one ebay now. So what if a
German ebay member happend to
use the same ebayname as an international member? Exactely: The German
member must change the name. (They could have given the name to who had
it longer, but, well...) So there was this British guy who called himself
indiadelta, just like Katja. Ebay told her, she has to change her
name or maybe, if she wants, ask the other guy, if he would perhaps change
his name. So she did, picked out the guys address from the ebay search
engine and wrote him a polite mail, telling him her wish. This was his
answer:

"I am not sure who gave you my name or even wish to know how you traced me
which may have been an illegal act.
Should you try this again I will ensure you are removed and I will report
you for harassment. Go away and dont bother me again.  Ron Mason"

Not exactely polite. And incredible stupid. So Katja answered:

"Dear Mr. Mason,

Before accusing me of illegal acts you better get acquainted with the
various search functions of Ebay. Feel free to complain to the official
counsel of Ebay - they advised me to get in touch with you directly.
If you cannot handle getting mails from official Ebay-members, maybe
Ebay is not the place for you. As far as your record goes, you have not
even used your account.

With kindest regards,
Katja Schmid"

And now be prepared for his final answer:

"What I do with this account is none of your business and I will make an official
complaint through intergov and the web police now stop harassing me."

Obviously Katja had found someone going online
from a madhouse... Now we're waiting for the web police. We expect they
have rubber guns and wear Mickey Mouse ears...
