Yeah! I was going to list this one, but didn't know if
it was the guy's moniker or the group'ss name. My lp
is sort of a scary reggae-ish thing. All the songs are
about Voodoo (I assumed the name was meant to hint at
exhumation).
What about that little Dutch polyp, Heintje - was that
a portion of his given name? And then there's the
meister himself, Heino (ne George something or other).
Speaking of, I have a schlager comp that gives credit
to a Heino Conty. Same person? Vocals sound very
similar.

Subject: (exotica) who are these dealers?
I just received the latest edition of WFMU's LCD magazine. It lists a bunch
of dealers who will be at 'FMU's next record fair (may 12-13; see
http://wfmu.org ).
There are a few interesting looking listings, a handful of which I'll post
here. My question is, has anyone dealt with any of these guys and do any of
them have web sites?
THE CALLGIRL SCENE. (Joe Flynn) Production music libraries, Beats, sampling
material, commercials, Broadcasting aids, Moog, Soul, Exotica, LPs and 45s.
MATTHEW GLASS. Jazz, rock, strange and unusual LPs.
RAINBOW RECORDS/CAR CAR RECORDS (Lloyd Okaji) Avant jazz, Soul, Psych,
Strange, Exotica, allkinds LPs/CDs/45s.
RASSLIN RECORDS (Tim Harris) Reggae, Punk, Jazz, Soul, Country, Blues,
Sountracks, Comedy, Strange, Dumb, LPs, 7", Print -- oops, looks like he has
a site http://www.rasslinrecords.com
RRECIRCULATION RECORDS (Tom Burgess) Rescued records from Texas.
Specializing in social unrest. Featuring religious refugees, musical
martyrs, the ethnographically incorrect, inappropriate music, & wretched
wreckords from your teeming shore. books & ephemera too.
SPACE AGE BACHELOR PAD (Larry Fisher) Impure thoughts plus what everyone
else is selling but cheaper.
Oh, and our old pal Tony Wilds will be there with a WILDS SOUNDS table.
Anyway, if anyone has comments about these dealers it'll help me set an
efficient course through the fair.
Thankee,
Lou

i was just wondering if anyone on the list has ever heard "stratasphere
boogie" by speedy west and jimmie bryant - - they were a country guitar duo
in the 50's on electric and pedal steel guitars. it is county music based
but upon listening to it the influence of be-bop really shines through.
and they do it all with out much in the way of effects pedals (most of the
sessions are in the mid 50's) - - this album rocks!!!
just thought i would share

Yes - great stuff. I have this on CD (Rounder Records
or Razor & Tie... something like that). I like Jimmy
Bryant quite a bit, and have a couple of his lps.
These lps show up from time to time on E-Bay... and I
know of at least one fellow lister who a bit about
this sort of thing.
Great great record.

I have and my fingers ache just listening to them. They pick so fast and
accurately I would be surprised if they had fingerprints. While I am not a
Country and Western person per se (I like Western Swing and a few other
artists), I would agree that this is one heck of an album. I would love to
be able to steal some of their licks, but I just cannot play that well or fast!

Picked this up on recommendation of this list during the Country Western multitide
of posts. It truly will amae you!!! I could never imagine such fast playing
until I heard this. I played it for a guitar friend of mind and he tought it
sounded like Les Paul. I agree but think of it as in a class itself, Razor and Tie
have vol 2 out but I don't have that yet
Easy litening in the Big Easy
