Hey Ben, what you neglected to mention re. Frankie is that he is
selling 26(!) different tapes of himself!!
See: http://www.frankieburke.com/tapes.htm
Here's the contents of #17:
Hawaiin Wedding Song, Blue Hawaii, Tiny Bubles, Pearly Shells, My Little Grass Shack, Down By De Sea, Hawaiian War Chant, South Pacific medly...Bali Hai, Nothing Like A Dame, Honey Bun, Some Enchanted Evening, Beyond The Sea, Now Is The Hour
and #26 is a tribute to Elvis!
So, Ben, come clean on Frankie, should we be sending him a few
bucks, or should we steer clear?

I don't think it's a coincidence that the first and only time, in my two
years on this list, that someone had a hissy fit and then left in a huff,
it was Ms.BJ. It was inevitable.
I think most people bent over backwards to tolerate her inappropriate
outbursts and holier-than-thou harangues. Somebody even publicly
apologized to her after she objected to his characterizing her irrelevant
post as irrelevant.
I know I'm one of the obnoxious ones to whom she referred and while I'm not
proud of it - even though it does remind me of making the substitute
teacher cry - I must say that I only feel the responsibility of kindness
towards those who exhibit some evidence of a complementary feeling.
In other words I don't feel like I have to be nice to those who seem
incapable of it themselves.
I'll miss BJ. I always miss her type for the first week or so after they
get run off a mailing list. But now that I'm not smoking, I probably won't
feel the same way about the little boost I get from blood boiling indignance.

Frankie was so cool to write me back and writes such
nice dedications I was hoping I would not have to say
that musically, he'd be a good openning act for
Charlie the Hamster. The lp I bought has two or three
fine tracks on it, Tiny Bubbles being the best (really
good mood music in a way, the mood being creeping
dread... music for a dentist's office in a David Lynch
film). He's got this sort of drippy sincere Steve
Lawrence type of voice... and the bubbly percolations
of the synthesizer. If you're into the "incredibly
strange" aspect of the music we talk about - a Frankie
Burke title in your library can do little harm. But
otherwise....
That said, I will pay the man almost whatever he wants
for his Elvis homage tape. Gionni, maybe we can go in
halves? :^)
