Sorry I took so long getting back to you. This is the British version
of "The Comercials" on Tee Vee Toon records. There is only one
commercial that is the same. They were posted on the list some time
back. There are 2 vols and both are great though not as good as "The
Commercials" I personally think commercials are the coolest.
I got my copies from TCL Imports, who really can get lots of obscure
cds. Their number is 1-800 728 2614 or try

Asolutely but there is even a better reason as a cassette with case
(unless it's one of those ultra-slim cases) exceeds the thicknesss limit (at
least in Canada) that would allow it to go as an oversized letter vs. a
small packet at over twice the mailing cost. Just use one of those
padded envelopes which cost some $0.39 as the postal clerk will scream
at you for putting a tape in a regular envelope. CD cases don't have the
same problem with thickness but the weight is a consideration. An empty
jewel case cost all of $0.50 here and probably three times that in postage to
send it overseas. Plus the disc holder teeth in those ^%#*!? clear insert
models ALWAYS arrives broken anyway! Wish someone would come up with
a better material for these inserts since more and more CDs are printed
on the inside as well. I always end up replacing the broken ones with black, white
or grey inserts. Reason I can't find clear ones as replacements is
likely because they're so prone to breakage. Do I sense a catch 22 happening here...

What a story!
Anyway, Exotic Moog was booted on CD a couple of years
back (alongwith Les Baxter's "Moog Rock") which you might
still be able to find.
Whether you're seeking that or the original LP you should try
a site like GEMM at http://www.gemm.com/
Good luck.

I have this one (or at least the first one - are there two?), and it's
highly recommended. Cheesy 60's porno soundtracks, and you can't go
wrong for the price. Along the lines of "Beat At Cinecitta".

Well, from what I understand, this is a good time to be a Sellers fan, as
there is a boxed set of everything he recorded (with the exception of live
radio shows), but I don't know if that shows up on anything. I would like
to say it doesn't sound like him, but there were few people that he

Ahh, that's me being unclear again. Roses has a very specific =

This is not the case! When you sign up with eBay, you have a
unique name (e.g. tikiface) with which you make bids, but you
also have to advise your email address. Anyone who is
registered with eBay, can request the email address of any
bidder, and each item auctioned has a bid history.
The seller can put a reserve price in, and need not sell if the
reserve is not met.
Each user name is assigned a rating, starting at zero. On
completion of a transaction, both the buyer and seller can
give each other feedback: positive feedback increments
a rating, negative decrements a rating. Neutral has no
effect on rating, but the fact that it isn't positive may be
telling. People (thankfully few) with a significant negative
rating are usually kicked out, and those with a good
positive ratings benefit from the trust it generates.
eBay also has a rolling 'wanted' page. It is worth looking at
to see the sheer diversity of things that people collect, or
want to buy. It works, too! I put in a want ad for a
Longines Symphonette set I was after, and next day had
an offer of a mint set for $15, which I snapped up!
Hugh.

Huh?!? Now that *is* living dangerously. I think you might be lucky not to
wind up with an envelope full of loose tape. Also, while some brands of
cassette may be possible to dis- and re- assemble, some brands can't be
opened up without destruction. Interesting idea, but a little dodgy.

I'm surprised that no one (not even Lou Smith?) is posting eulogies for A&M
Records, which was officially closed down yesterday. Whole lotta good music
on that label...I think I own more albums on A&M than on any other label
except Columbia, Capitol, Elektra, Warner Brothers and Virgin (and it's
impossible to imagine any of those labels closing...well, maybe Virgin).
And I don't even have a lot of the old exotica-type stuff on A&M (Mendes,
Montez, Bacharach, Jobim, Baja Marimba Band, etc. etc.) which others of you
must own and cherish.
So here's my quick nod to Herb Alpert, Procol Harum, Claudine Longet, The
Merry-Go-Round, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Joe Cocker, Fairport Convention, Cat
Stevens, The Move, Emitt Rhodes, The Police, Squeeze, The Feelies, Andy
Summers & Robert Fripp, The Blue Nile, Suzanne Vega, Chris Stamey, Robyn
Hitchcock & The Egyptians, Soul Asylum, Phil Ochs, Kitchens of Distinction,
The Dickies, Cecil Taylor, Swervedriver, Soundgarden....
Heck, even A&M headquarters was sorta "exotica" in a way -- it was Charlie
Chaplin's old studio.
There's a neat nostalgic website devoted to A&M. I forget the URL at the
moment, but it's called "Rudy's A&M Corner." I'll have to go check out the
message board there sometime soon.

begs to be disproven:
" D'you want a copy of Mundell Lowe's _Guitar Player_ on Dobro Records,
methinks? 1976 or so. It's just gathering dust (well, the outermost inch
of the top

My theory is: tread carefully when considering buying a jazz record where
the aged players have what I affectionately dub "The Shelley Manne
Beatle-do"...Ever noticed in the 1970s, all these jazz guys, for whom STYLE
was so once important, looked really goofy, like "trying to be hip with the

Mundell had the Shelley-Manne-Beatle-do....Gerry Mulligan just looked like

I actually find a little fragment or two of ice in the martini as exciting.
I personally feel that you cannot "bruise" gin (or vodka) by shaking it. Lets
face it, both are the lest refined, non-flavorful, primitive distilled spirits

while. I always fill out the feedback form after a deal; it's a courtesy

As far as collecting jpeg's goes, I've added another hard drive to my PC

This isn't the worst way but again, it's not the way 99% of the new bars are
doing it.
>I actually find a little fragment or two of ice in the martini as exciting.
Sorry, you lost me here. The ice and water makes me neauseous.
>I personally feel that you cannot "bruise" gin (or vodka) by shaking it.
All you have to look at it and it's murky. It does settle after a few
minutes (giving it ample time to warm), but it's bruised.
>Lets

I respectfully suggest that the martini is not your drink. Vodka is
flavorless, especially when added to gin, but it's not an ingredient in a
martini, much like the most of the current Swing revival isn't Swing at all.
Gin is packed with flavor and each brand has a different flavor.
I hope this isn't coming off as bitchy because that's not the spirit I
intended. I just see standards slipping everywhere and the martini was doing
just fine in real bars and among real drinkers until the Lounge scene
decided it was a fun word to say.

Subject: Re: (exotica) EBAY (esp. tiki mugs)
I bid on a few items on ebay and I thought it was really cool because you can
just set your maximum bid and then ebay bids for you only upping your bid as
necessary to keep you on top
Well I found out that this doesn't work for several reasons
two that I know of are this
Other bidders don't set the MAXIMUM that they would really pay for an item.
Instead they put in multiple bids upping their bid each time someone else gets
on top OR worse yet (there is a time limit) they wait til the last few minutes
and then place a high bid to try to out sneak other bidders (and thereby
becoming slaves to their computer screens)
this is not what I would consider to be "collecting" or "finding"
other indescrepencies that occur on ebay are
sellers intentionally misrepresenting items as vintage or rare by not stating
their origin
and sellers bidding on their own items in order to up the price
ALSO
the seller can pull his/her item if it does not meet the set limit (set by the
seller and sometimes and outrageous amount)
I won the bid on a two item set from a seller from Hawaii but he refused sale
because it did not meet his set minimum. Then he emailed me and offered me ONE
of the two items for sale at a price that was 20% higher than what I had won
at!!
20% more money for half the items!?! I didn't bother to reply to the asshole
and have never bid since
also I asked the price of a tiki mug at a antique expo recently and the price
was $22. When I told the lady that was way too much because I had bought the
very same mug two weeks prior at the local swap meet for $12. She said, "Well
I just sold one of those last week on ebay for $40."
so the people that buy on ebay are destroying the market prices for EVERYONE
in the nation not just themselves!

trust the dealer and/or seller is because of the Feedback. If you've got
negative feedback, you're Ebay career is pretty much iced, at least for a
while. I always fill out the feedback form after a deal
this is pretty much ballyhoo for two reasons
I have first hand eveidence that SELLERS solicit those feedback replys because
as a buyer if you see a high number that means that the seller has a lot of
response (ie is a good guy) which is not so if the responses were solicited
rather than volunteered - ie if a seller says to you that he'd like you to
write a good review for him BEFORE you get the item then it benfits you to do
it in order to ensure that you get said item in a timely fashion
also
since I also have firsthand evidence that dealers log on under different names
it is not too much of a stretch to imagine that they could send good reviews
to themselves
it is a popularity contest of which the contestants have a hand in
for ex. do you think that your high school prom king and queen are the coolest
people and you'd like to hang out with them or at least do business with them
(ie give them your money)

Otto:
I was just talking to Robert last week about this. I just got on Ebay a few
weeks ago and of course got lured into the "tiki" section. I bid on a couple
of items and couldn't believe my eyes as people are just crazy and will pay
ridiculous prices for something that amounts to only a flyer of the tiki room
from Disneyland. That little flyer went up to almost $90! In addition, I
also happened to notice as far as the mugs go, there appears to be a guy who I
remember was winning/the high bidder for about a week or two. Then one day I
went on and he had just posted for sale about 10 mugs. One of his mugs was
coincidentally the same mug another seller was selling on the Ebay site at the
same time and that auction had gone on for a few days and the price was up to
$20. This guy, he priced the same mug to start at like $20. And all the
other mugs he was selling he wanted really unreasonable minimum starting bids.
I thought, what a lot of nerve he has! Here he is, buying all the mugs 2
weeks ago, then turning around and tryiing to rip everyone off. I just hope
the people on Ebay are "smart enough" to see thru this roose - but then again
these are the same people that are "dumb enough" to be bidding up mugs and
things way over their reasonable market value.

Now why don't they post the reserve or isn't the reserve just the same as a
"minimum bid" I can understand that it is not worth their while to sell
something if the price was too low... but it isn't fare for them to keep the
reserve a secret. What is the point of keeping it secret?

Yeah, well Otto, this just proves the point - it is far better to get out
there to the swap meets and antique malls than it is to sit around you
computer staring at your Ebay bid items and hoping you aren't out-bid... I
really got sucked into that the first few days on Ebay and found I was on Ebay
like 4 hours a day monitoring my bids! Luckily, I wised up - that's not to
say I won't be ever bidding again, just thinking carefully and not trying to
let ego empty my pocketbook!

i don't look at it quite that way. ebay prices for an item, relate to the
ebay universe. that universe is not necessarily the real world valuation
for a given item.
ebay is "its own" universe in the sense that one can "search" through
a virtual garage sale of millions of items at one time. sometimes turning
up the exact item for which you've been keeping your eye out.
in my mind, that time-saving efficient benefit is a value worth (on occassion)
an additional premimum beyond an items "nominal" value where you
to scrounge all over the suburb garage sales to find it (maybe, eventually)
or troop around to second hand shops.
the message is here; if some shop keeper cites the EBAY winning bid for
an item as its value.... tell 'em "bean dip" !

beautiful set!
The 3 albums 'Music out of the moon', 'Perfume set to music' and 'Music
for peace of mind' are inserted in a litte cardboard box. Each cd in a
reproduction of the original sleeve. A 28-page booklet with extra
information and illustrations is added to the set.
as it says on the back of the box: an essential Basta reissue!

I read somewhere that there are two albums by the Mystic Moods, Emotions and
Extensions, which feature Paul Beaver on Moog. I have never heard anyone on

so, but it never occurred to me to buy one. Is some of their material
actually worth a dollar or should I continue to ignore the Mystic Moods? Any
advice on this subject would be appreciated.

I found a great song called "Staccato" by a group called The Eliminators. I
was wondering what albums they put out and if the were out on any American
labels. The song I have is on a Sequel comp album called "The Easy Project".
The liner notes (which are rather lame) make mention that the song was the
incidental music to the Scarborough Southcliff Butchers ad from pirate station
Radio 270 in the mid '60s and the copywrite info says 1966 Pye Records. Those
are all the clues I have.

Yes, anyone can get multiple email accounts, but each will have to have a
separate bidder name on eBay, and thus separate feedbacks. Granted, it is
possible to massage feedback, but if someone leaves a negative feedback
message, that shows up in a summary you see when you check out that
person's feedback.

Subject: Re: (exotica) EBAY (esp. tiki mugs)
here's my take on the ebay high-price phenomenon.
basically it's an optimal formula and format for driving the prices up.
it has alot to do with psychology and a kind of fetishism in a way. it
starts, of course, with the auction format, which naturally will drive
any price up because of the competitive aspect and the snowball effect
it has on a price. the more people that bid on something, the more the
perceived value goes up, and the higher the price ends up being.
but this is only part of the equation.
in my reckoning, i've noticed that browsing for items on ebay is
distinctly different than browing for items at say an antique store or
garage sale. if i see something i like at a store, i can usually satisfy
my initial fascination with the item by simply picking it up and
examining it first hand. the fact that the item is "real" to me in this
setting takes away most of the mystique associated with it, and after
this crucial aspect is gone, i'm probably much less likely to buy it or
pay alot for it. on ebay, however, the most you're presented with is a
picture of the item, which only serves to whet your appetite about the
potential of the item. like i said- it can almost be like a fetishistic
thing. (i read a couple posts here from people who have started
collecting photos from ebay.) often when i see something that interests
me on ebay, i'll end up paying a premium for it just to complete my
engagement with the item. it's like dangling a carrot in front of a
horse. of course, often i'll receive an item and find myself examining
it just about as much as i might have done if i had seen it in a store.
then it goes on the shelf and i don't pay much attention to it anymore.
in other words, if i had seen and explored the item in a store in the
first place, i may never have felt the need to actually buy it and own
it.
anyway i have no problem with ebay prices in general because it's the
people who vote for the value of an item. if someone has something
starting off at a crazy price, i just don't bid. as a seller, that's a
bad strategy, because you're not giving the buyer the perceived power of
setting his own price for the item. usually i've had better luck
starting an item off at a very low price, with no reserve, than i have
had with starting it off at what i thought was the amount i'd like to
get.
all in all i think it's an amazing study in group psychology.
