I bought 10, at $3 per mug. Not as cheap as you can get them at Thrift
Shops and Yard Sales - but clean and dammit, so many to choose from.
Two had handles, Fu Manchus, a couple were marked "Luau Hut" (most
were Orchids of Japan). I bought the mugs in pairs in the event that
one hits the floor. I've got 21 now (not counting the three carved
from "Monkey Wood"), but am tempted to go back for more....

Speaking of eating, I found a huge decorative fork and spoon set (~ 18
in. long) with tikis carved into the handles at a thrift store this
weekend. I'm not sure if my wife will let me hang them in my music
room....

I picked this very tasty LP up the other week, it actually got a UK
release (on Egmont records). Anyone know if other "Charlie Parker"
records made it out over here?
Anyhow, searching for Mundell Lowe info on the net, I found that it
has been very recently released on CD. Sorry, URLs/precise info are
vanished into the mist.

Peter
>>
It was the spoofy one with about a half dozen characters named "James Bond"
and Woody Allen played the "original" Jame's evil cousin Jimmy Bond. David
Niven was the "original" Bond in Casino and the story was that he had retired
and the Secret Service sort of franchised his name to dozen of
Fleming sold the Casino Royale rights to a non-EON Productions group (EON is
the Broccoli one) and he also sold the Thunderball rights to the person(s) who
did the screen play (maybe Richard Mauibaum????) and that is why Thunderball
was remade by Sean Connery (Never Say Never) and there is talk of yet another
Thunderball remake.
For a long time I dispised the Casino movie because it was "stupid" in
comparison to the "official" movies, but that was before I understood the word
"campy".

I went by the most rancid thrift store east of the Pecos today on my
monthly lunch rounds. Though the books and records are generally
clean, the place is a sore: redolent of all that is anal, banal and
dead. That said, I picked up a sealed copy of Charles Bukowski Reads
His Poetry; the OST to Three the Hard Way (awesome movie, baby - tunes
composed by The Impressions, which I believe included Curtis
Mayfield); and a near mint copy of The Enchanted Tiki Room. Sweeeeet
baby Jesus. This gives me 2 copies. I do not want to sell either copy,
but will trade if anyone out there has anything I am interested in
that they are willing to part with. If anyone is interested, please
send a list of what you have to exchange. The trade copy I believe is
VG+ for both lp and cover (but I will check to be certain), booklet
included.

Ra also did a cover of 'Holiday for strings', the famous David Rose
tune. I really LOVE Sun Ra by the way. The really free stuff from the
late sixties and early seventies sometimes is a bit too heavy for my
taste, but his recordings from the fifties and early sixties are
absolutely great.

Curtis Mayfield indeed was the lead Impression, when Sam Cash didn't sing lead
which was almost always. The Impressions came out of the vibrant Chicago Soul
scene of the early 6T's after the members -- who had previously been called
The Roosters and hailed from somewhere down South -- moved north to the Big
City and joined forces with Jerry Butler. Best Impressions song IMHO: "I Loved
And I Lost"......Sorry to go off topic, but the Johnny Pate production work on
their ABC work is exotic indeed IMHO.

Pleasure and work just took me on a 4000 + road trip through the American
heartland. Sure, I scooped records at thrifts along the way, scoring in
Joplin, MO, 40 + disks for $8 smackers. My little wagon got so loaded, my
sig ot nicknamed me Ma Joad (halfhearted apologies to Steinbeck).
Among them, Enoch Light's Permissive Polyphonics, "escapism through the
turned-on sounds of today."
This long-quested find has provocative labeling. The sleeve is stamped both
Project 3 and Realistic, the Radio Shack brandname. Yo, you Children of
Light: Was this quad lp given as a premium to buyers of high-end Radio
Shack systems?
Imagine a gleeful salesman handing an audiophile an invoice for $1500 along
with a $5 copy of Permissive Polyphonics, saying, "Enjoy this, with Radio
Shack's compliments." Later a lonesome bachelor groons to Scarborough Fair
in the open space between four massive speakers.
TIA for any info.
Wherever there's a thrift bin of 50 cent disks, I'll be there.

Don't know about that; I do have a record distributed by Realistic
called "TV Potpourri" by Dick Dia and his Orchestra (no cover,
unfortunately). It has a version of the theme from "Combat" that sounds
like it is from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. His version of "Bonnanza" is
done latin style. Ole.

I would not be averse to providing misinformation if they were handing

The Tiki Sampler was first announced in December of '97. It was supposed to be
released last summer, then last fall and now who knows? I have a feeling it
will never come out.

been rewatching the show and the music is fabulous. Also, did the show have a
soundtrack album, that anyone knows of?

from what i understand the cuts are from Vols 13 and up. the leopard skin
sampler had 2 cuts from vol 1-12 and i think the tiki sampler will take up
where the leopard skin one leaves off.
in other words it is not going to be real tiki at all.

yeah, but that (UL) site has not been updated since before
the old president of capitol was "shown the door" and
the new one came in.
i'd strongly suspect upcoming news there was "news"
about nine months ago, and plans have changed since.
actually, what you might do is go to the capitol site
hm page whatever the general questions email link is
send a general question concerning UL there. capitol
does check *all* email that comes in daily and it carries
some weight with them. i suggest not using the UL
feedback form, because that may all be diverted without
review to their catalog division.

Hello...
I just bought a soundtrack collection on what might be bootleg
vinyl. It's called Great Science Film Music (GSF-1001) and has
themes from 20 pre-1970 films... it was printed in 1984 and
although the vinyl is in great shape, the pressing isn't best quality
nor were the masters. One of the tracks in particular has me
searching for another source, namely Jerry Goldsmith's "List of
Adrian Messenger." It's a weird, lovely theme with some 'exotic'
touches - a very faint ethereal voice enters at one point. I just
wondered if any of the experts here knows of another source for
this soundtrack. I'm pretty certain it was never fully released on
cd. Please email me directly as I'm not subscribed to the list...
not even sure if this will make it there, but here goes!
Thanks,
kevin
