Yeah, Popp is a class of its own. I can only agree to Byron and recommend=
him
to any of you who haven't yet checked out this French master. It's not "e=
asy"
stuff, not even very groovy, unless you think that dances that Popp inven=

himself like the "Java", ARE groovy, but his tunes are super-magic. They =
have
all the archaic power of "childhood-memories", strange humor and a touch =
of
avant-gardism that you don't find so easy. My favourite two pieces of And=
r=E9 are
"La Java des Bombes Atomiques" and "La Java Martienne". Both are composit=

by french novelist Boris Vian and appeared first on an album called "Chan=

possibles and impossibles". That's where I got to know Popp for the first=
time
as well, way back in 1985 and since then Popp's music was a mysterious mi=

to me.

I got the distinct impression, reading this review/article (if one can
call it that) that it was quite a few years old. Whoever the
open-minded writer is, it seemed he'd only heard of their first CD, and
knew nothing about the whole exotica/space age bachelor pad movement.
Oh, well...maybe his theory is if he drops lots of names and uses big
words, people will think he knows something...I think we all know
better!!!

I found it quite funny. And it is well-written, and would have made me
curious about the reviewed topics. I'd certainly rather go out to buy
the record after a review like this than after reading the usual boring
cut down PR leaflets. But it certainly looks like it was some years old.

I can only agree. Popp is one of the greatest composer/arrangers of this
century. "Delerium in hi-fi" is absolutely stunning, no matter how often
you play it.
I receieved a tape with "Holiday for DJ's" a couple of days ago. Not as
weird as "Delerium...", but it's still a very nice album, with all kinds
of subtle twists and turns. Even on later albums, with more "normal"
easy listening, Popp manages to slip in some really odd tunes.
Does anyone have some more discographical info on Popp? I have compiled
a short discography at http://members.xoom.com/Kallie/page01.html
but there must be much more.

L'Atomes "The Golden Age" new CD is much more dance-oriented than "The
Flash of Light", with lots of funk and even disco rhythms.
their next cd (out in jan/feb 99) will be - quote - "all electronique,
techno, etc".

Someone (Lou?) asked about Henry's daughter Monica and her new CD. I see
that there's a PBS special in circulation next week cross-promoting the CD,
so keep an eye peeled and you can evaluate it for free. She's a singer and
it seems to be a set of covers of Dad's hits.

This was not very clear -- I think the writer of the article writes for the
magazine "Lounge LA". There is also a different publication called simply
"Lounge".
Sorry for the confussion if there was any,
