That's right about Martin Milner portying the Guitarist who _at the time_
was John Pisano.
For many years though THE guitarist was Jim Hall.
Barney Kessel was never in that group and he is in my top 5 fave guitarists
along with Jim Hall and Kenny Burrell.
I'd have to really think of WHO those other 2 would be to make my top 5.

Phil Baugh, Jimmy Bryant and Al Caiola!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone ever hear this record other than me, Mickey McGowan (Incredibly
Strange Music Book Vol 1)
Corey Johnson who just bought a copy from me and Scott who owns Saturn
Records in Oakland ?
I don't know of anyone else BUT it is in the league of Fantastica by Russ
Garcia BUT totally different.
Also of note is that even though it was released in 1962, 63 it was only
released in MONO.
So for all of you Stereo Nazis out there...you will never own this record
;)))))))))))
Attileo Mineo was a sound effects man for The valentine Sound Effects
company and this records is from outer space !
There is also an Attileo "Minero" who does the sound Effects on Marty
Manning's The Twilight Zone (Columbia)
Different name due to contractual obligations maybe ?

Gotta get to that nap but 1st
7 Golden Men was originally released on United Artists ONLY in Rechanneled
Stereo which considering on this LP isn't that bad (vinyl version)
Juliette of The Spirits, La Dolce Vita (already mentioned) there's this
fantastic little keyboarded instrument called a Novacord all throughout
Juliette and on these little kids records of the early 60's (I believe)
called Rusty in Orchestraville and Sparky's Magic Piano they use an
instrument where it's like the "talk box" for guitars but it's with a piano
that they call a sonovox. It's really wild !@! Those rekkids are on
Capitol and some of them are led by Billy May.
Worth finding ;)

innocuous diversion. It's a feverish passion

Yeah, the theme song from "Valley Of The Dolls" -- I can't remember the
song title (am at the office), but I think the film version was recorded by
Hugo Montenegro and it's on a Montenegro CD compilation that came out about
a year ago. A classic ditty. Anyone know the one I'm talking about?

Just found this at a thrift. Truly amazing.
A note to those thinking of buying the boot: it only includes the
first side of the record! The flip side has six more tunes composed
by Diamond that occasionally feature semi-ethereal vocals.
What other Leo Diamond's would anyone recommend? Is Romantic Places
worth looking out for?

The scoop is that you got a masterpiece. The only Ahbez LP, released in
1960. Of course, like all masterpieces, it was unintentional. Eden Ahbez
wrote * Nature Boy * for Nat King Cole, ate alot of nuts and berries, slept
outdoors under the Hollywood sign, wore sandals and looked like sweet, sweet
Jesus.
To those that don't have it, get it. Exotic instrumentals, chanting island
girls, creaking boats, spoken words of wisdom.

Subject: MAI KAI
I have just returned from a trip to southern Florida where there appear to be
far too many bars who have thrown some thatched roofing up and serve poorly
made frozen concoctions (the awful Rum Runner being the worst offender) and
then call themselves a "Tiki Bar" with nary a tiki in sight!
However amdist these Tiki crimes there is a restaurant that has got to be one
of the top polyensian restaurants on the continent - Mai Kai (located at
3599 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale)
Having experienced three Trader Vic's and one Don the Beachcomber's (on the
mainland) and several other Polyensian-style haunts I have to say this place
ranks the best of the lot.
Immense tikis , a luau show, several rooms fantastically decorated, a very
good drink menu (although trader vic's is still numero uno in this
department) and atmosphere a plenty thanks to an outdoor, and even in door
waterfalls, gardens and lighted torches. They even have a great gift shop
where you can buy neat t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts, Scorpion bowls etc.! No
less than two waiters are assinged per table as you get service like old
restaurants used to have.
They are now celebrating 40 years in business (opened in 1956!)...this place
is well worth a visit...Truly a Tiki Nirvana!

Apparently another favorite of Mamie Eisenhower, besides the Three
Suns, was Danny Guglielmi - or so the quoted letter in the liner
notes would have you think. I picked up Adventure In Sound featuring
Multiple Instrumentation by Danny G. and vocals by Dena (his wife).
The sound of this is very reminiscent of Les Paul and Mary Ford (a
slightly sexier Mary Ford), but weirder, spacier. Has anyone heard
of this?
