  70. Yeah I've got one of the smaller models.  It's a beautiful desktop console
  71. organ made by Philips in the Netherlands sometime in the 60's.  It has a 48
  72. key keyboard with 11 tube (valve) oscillators one for each pitch which can
  73. then be halved and doubled frquencywise to achieve octaves (these are
  74. tunable with a screwdriver and some swagger... they won't be "tempered" and
  75. so this brings some 'interesting' results).  It is totally polyphonic and
  76. has a lefthand preset chord button area much like that on an accordian,
  77. hence Philicordia.  I once tried unsuccessfully to buy a 2 keyboard version
  78. so I know that there were more models.  Mine comes with a mean
  79. vibrato/tremelo and a spring reverb with external access (for a mike mixer
  80. for instance), and an internal amp with side mounted speakers although
  81. there are also direct and verb outs, and banks of combinable preset
  82. switches with names standard to pipe organs ie flutes, brass, oboes, cello,
  83. viols, choir etc.  This means it's not quite as versatile as the drawbar
  84. system used on a Hammond or Vox console, but the voices are very rich due
  85. to all that oscillator power.  The keyboard has a mechanical system for
  86. sensing which stops are pulled and this is a pain to keep in optimal
  87. shape... also the interior has about 20 miles of wiring... ie zero printed
  88. circuits and this means it's a bitch to maintain.  Anyway, I've used it for
  89. years as it has a very unique feel and tone.

  149.      PS I stumbled across a 15 minute segment on the Canadian lounge scene 
  150.      on the Much Music cable channel last week (Monday night, the 17th, I 
  151.      think). It was pretty superficial and trendy. Much Music has done some

  153.      shallow. points for effort only.

  302. It was released on vinyl LP by MGM, don't know if there was ever a cd.  
  303. The song you refer to, which I believe is supposedly coming from the 
  304. transistor Lolita is listening to as she lounges on the lawn is 
  305. Lolita Ya Ya, the best thing on the record.  Although the rest of it 
  306. would probably fit well in the category asked about by the original 
  307. poster.

  334. The label is Play It Again, cat. play001  The soundtrack is cool 
  335. jukebox swingin' spy instrumentals with a few very fun vocals.  
  336. Stringbeat is stereophonic easy strings with pizzicato, guitar, light 
  337. percussion, very grooovy!

  361. Good filmtrack score by Chico Hamilton, who also appears in the film with
  362. his group.  It is more jazz than exotica though.  I always liked seeing Tony
  363. Curtis being beat up in films. I don't know what Hollywood saw in him
  364. anyway.  It was a good role for a lousy actor.

  376. in the Chico Hamilton Quartet, did the Ken Nordine word jazz stuff and 
  377. scored the music for Corman's Little Shop of Horrors. Being Corman and 
  378. the low-budget god that he was, Katz' score could also be heard in 
  379. Bucket of Blood, The Last Woman on Earth and The Creature from the 
  380. Haunted Sea. Does anyone know if Katz is still alive? john

  405. This was re-released in 1986 on MCA as an "MCA Classic Soundtrack", =
  406. MCA39067. I got it a couple years ago at world famous Village Music in =
  407. Mill Valley as a $5 cut-out. Have not seen a CD anywhere in my countless =

  410. There may be additional attention when the Adrian Lyne remake comes out, =
  411. whenever that happens. They were filming locally in Petaluma a few =
  412. months ago.  Wonder who's playing "the Hayes woman", Shelley Winters =

  475. I love these movie suggestions....I don't know if it would be an
  476. appropriate mention, but has anyone actually heard the soundtrack to 'The
  477. Ten Thousand Fingers of Dr. T."? It was apparently one of the few film
  478. projects that ever involved Dr. Seues and the sets are truly wonderful and
  479. well worth the look see.  I saw it at a special talent show, it silently
  480. playing while the band played over it and  I've always wondered if the
  481. soundtrack was as good as the visuals.

  535. I rented it about two weeks ago. I could see why Dr. Suess was disappointed
  536. in it (it's kind of a Wizard of Oz ripoff with a male Dorothy)                 
  537. but there are several big production numbers that are absolutely insane
  538. that make the whole thing worth it.

  623. Barney Kessel was Hamilton's actual guitarist at that time (1957) or not.
