  54. These releases are more than just members of Francis Bay's band...they 
  55. ARE Francis Bay's Band, the same recordings that Omega issued, here 
  56. falsely attributed to "John Evans" and his band. The players' names given 
  57. on Directional Sound have all been slightly altered and Anglicized from 
  58. their true monikers, and the sound has been reverbed and compressed. But 
  59. otherwise these are the same recordings that Omega issued under their 
  60. true names, in undoctored sound.

  75. Because you all are more brilliant and better educated in obscure music than
  76. most, I'll pose this question...I have a *great* record by a woman vocalist,
  77. made sometime in the early '60s,  on LONDON, called GEORGIA BROWN SINGS KURT
  78. WEILL...Does anyone have any info on her?  Last time I checked the Weill
  79. home-page, I found nothing....Anyone else like Weill?

  218. Philip Riggio:

  220. Would you believe that "zu-zu-zu" got its start in Mexico as "dududu," 
  221. intervocalic "d" in Spanish being pronounced as the "th" in English "the"? 
  222. (One might transcribe it as "dh" to distinguish it from the "th" in
  223. "think.") "Unlisping" it to "z" enabled American singers to get close to
  224. the original instead of reading it as "th" in "think" or stumbling over an
  225. unknown "dh", though the sound is common enough in English. And that
  226. "Esquivel! 1968" a.k.a. title, "O piano, as vozes e o som de Esquivel!" is
  227. in Portuguese, indicating that RCA Victor released it in Brazil, too.

  276. place is called Athenian Candle , it is located in Greek Town. It is a
  277. story that sells all sort of Santa Terina stuff, as well as all your

  463. One suggestion I can make is the re-issue of the Francis Lai's original
  464. soundtrack to "A Man and a Woman" that has the great la,la,la theme. That
  465. theme was more famous than the film itself, considering it won Best Foriegn
  466. Film Oscar and was a Cannes Grand Prix winner, 1966.  It was just recently
  467. put out on CD by DRG.

  481. I have heard NIGHT OF THE SPECTRE..does anyone know why its on Tampa
  482. Records(or anything about that label?)  I live in Tampa, FL, but I'm pretty

  600. Georgia Brown is an English singer who has mainly appeared in stage musicals
  601. in London and New York.  She did a few films, I believe, but her main claim
  602. to fame was originating the role of Nancy in the musical "Oliver!"
  603.  
  604. As for Weill, he certainly contributed an exotica standard with "Mack the
  605. Knife."  Taken individually, his songs are better than his musical plays,
  606. since like Brecht, his tone could grow a little strident.  Dudley Moore, I
  607. think, did a killer send-up of Weill (and Lotte Lenya's interpretations) on
  608. one of the "Beyond the Fringe" albums.

  625. Tampa was an LA-based label in the mid-to-late 1950s.  Tampa mostly released
  626. Latin and West Coast jazz LPs--people like Mike Pacheco and Oscar Moore.  I
  627. doubt it stayed in business more than 3-4 years.  A few of their albums are
  628. available on Fresh Sounds and VSOP CDs.
