Stone Stock,
I must disagree, my DR350 is still stock. HOWEVER........I
have an Acerbis tank, new handlebars, Moose handguards, a
K&N filter PLUS my GPS, waiting to be installed. Those are
things to make it more usable on my favorite Baja roads,
where they are really necessary.
But now, back to the rest of my six weeks without a knee.
New joint to be installed Oct. 5. See, I'm modified too! But
of course, that's also necessary so I can ride my minimally
modified motorcycle.

Strickler's,
Yes, tires are crucial. However, learning to ride the bike
with any tires is more crucial. Think THIS through.
By the way, what is your first name? No crutch.

Hi Owen I have tried the cobra isde, not much gain there and its hard to jet one place is good
and another is not it just doesn't seem to respond well to jetting through the whole
powerband. I have not heard much about the yoshamura but I have had good luck with the fmf
pipes. the megamax 2 should be good and I believe Thumper Racing has them. as for your timing
chain it does have one and it also has an automatic adjuster It should not cause any problems
unless you have a lot of miles on the bike. It can be changed without removing the engine from
the bike. any other questions you may have please feel free to contact me.

There are two excellent training videos made by Dick Burleson and Thumper
Racing. They are well worth the time and money. Also, try to find a riding
buddy who is further along and follow and emulate him.
Best of luck with your learning.

Hi Owen, Good to here from you again, do you have a shop a manual? the valves
are not really too difficult to adjust. You must have a few necessary tools
though.
1. you must remove the side covers, seat and fuel tank.
1a. return all fasteners removed to their original location when possible that
way you do not forget where they come from.
2. Clean off the top of the motor and frame and make sure the motor is overnight
cold.
3. Remove the spark plug, the left center small magnito plug and the front left
timing indicator plug.
4.Rotate the engine counterclockwise with a socket on the bolt inside the larger
left mag cover hole and with your finger over the sparkplug hole and when you
feel pressure building look in the small forward hole with a flashlight and line
up the "t" in the center of the hole. This should be top dead center.
5.Remove the bolts from the front top exhaust valve cover. now remove the two
bolts from the intake valve cover. Note It makes it easier to get to these bolts
with the coil out of the way you can do this by removing the two bolts from the
coil and hang it up over the frame. Feel the rocker arms they should have some
slight movement up and down. Look down inside at the cam with a flashlight and
the lobes should be pointing down.
6. At his point you can adjust or check the valve clearance. the intake should
be .003" to .004" clearance and the exhaust .004" to .005" I would recommend
.004" and .005" a snug feeling while pulling a feeler guage of the proper
thickness thru the gap between the valve stem and the rocker arm is what you
want. If adjustment is neccessary you must loosen the nut on the rocker and
then tighten or loosen the small square adjuster while holding the feeler guage
between the valve stem and rocker arm adjusting stud when the slight drag is
felt lock down the locking nut to the proper torque and recheck the clearance.
you may have to repeat this procedure several times until you get it right, it
just takes a little practice. follow this procedure on the rest of the valves
and put things back in reverse order. Contact me if you have any more questions
or you need more clarification on this procedure.
Regards Jesse

Subject: (dr350) Water and hot engine
Is it dangerous for the motor (when it is very hot), to cross a river?I have
heard that it can break a motor and as me, today I have crossed a river of
50-60 cm (+- 20-25 in) of depth (and the motor was very hot) (the water
covered the crankcase and part of the cylinder during 6-7 seconds), I am
concerned.
Also, later, during a while, the motor was fuming a lot.
Is it dangerous or can I be calm?
Bye

In the condom business they say one size fits all. I think as much we would
like to believe this deep down we know it is not true. At least with
motorcycles we can make our bikes fit with a little bit of modification. I
for one think the expense is worth it.
