Subject: Re: (dr350) Oil leak???
My '98 did almost the same thing. I had to take the upper oil line
bolt out and re-torque it because it was leaking oil just after I
bought it. I think I had to take the gas tank off to get to it (I
could be wrong). It hasn't leaked a drop since and I now have over
3500 miles on it.
Good Luck!

Wayne: The valve train oil is pumped up the left front head bolt, may need to retork
the head bolts if the oil is coming out between the head and cylinder in that area
behind the large oil line banjo fitting. This is not a common problem on a stock
engine but have seen it on the big bore aftermarket head gaskets. The other places
that could be a problem is the exaust valve cover, or possibly the in frame oil
resevoir is leaking normally around the top engine mount. Let us know what you find.

I had a similar problem with my 98. It turned out the idle speed was too
high. Turning it down to spec solved it. I do have a problem though
that it will occasionally shift into neutral when upshifting or
downshifting between 1st and 2nd. Anyone know of a way to fix this?
I've talked to another owner that has the same problem.
Also, a while ago someone suggested trying to just route the carb vent
hose down instead of the T vent setup. I tried that, but experienced the
engine cutting out when on straight level roads. After T'ing the hose,
the problems went away.

My 94 did the same thing when shifting, I replaced the shift lever with a
aftermarket model and the problem was solved. Reason it is better with the
aftermarket lever is because the splines on the lever are aligned at a
different angle in relation to the angle of the lever, so when the new
lever is installed, it points down just a tad compared to the stock lever.
However, note that rotating the stock lever down one notch on the splines
does not achieve the same effect because then it points too low. MSR and
Scotts make a decent aftermarket lever. Don't through out the stock lever
though, carry it with you as a spare in your fanny pack or whatever when
you ride.
Also, often times my boot would slip off the rubber tip on the stock
lever, especially after the rubber started to wear flat on the bottom side,
and because the tip is too short.
The aftermarket lever has a longer tip, so your boot won't slip off of it.

Or, you could wait untill you go into a fit of mad rage resulting from your
40th or 50th neutral insted of the intended gear shift, and channel the
resulting energy into "modifying" the stock level with some sort of tool or
big heavy objected.
Worked for me and cost $0.00
