Subject: (dr350) pumper carb
Where can I find a pumper carb for my DR350SE '99. Thumper has what is
apparently the carb the off road version uses, but it is listed in their
catalog for use with the XL? What gives? I have checked several motorcycle
salvage yards with no luck as well.

Scott, I just talked to Gary at Thumper and he said he was going to
stock the dirt model pumper carb for the DR/se models, a spacer is
necessary to provide clearance for the starter that will also be part
of the pumper carb kit .It will have a vacuum port built into the spacer
to tie in with the vacuum operated fuel petcock since the dirt carb has
no vacuum port. hope this clears things up for you.

Only, whats on the list and what Rob Barnum had to say. Rob said it was great,
but he was selling them and you know what the list has been saying, I do have a
question
though. I was talking to Mark Sims and he was saying that the rear of the
quicksilver that he had had the 2" size where the airbox boot connects you have
described it to be oval shaped like the stock cv carb. Does Edelbrock make both.
would appreciate you getting back to me. your box is on the way priority mail.
Don't give up Mike this just takes a little sorting out. Jesse

Hi,
I tried a QwikSilver and didn't like it much, though I didn't try really
hard to work the jetting right. My bike would stall when I opened the
throttle suddenly while coasting or braking with the throttle closed -
such as coming out of a tight turn and gunning it. It didn't always do
it, but it was enough to be annoying.
I called Edelbrock tech and Mike said that all Flat Slide carbs would
exhibit this behavior. That when I open the throttle with my RPMs low
air gets in very quickly and the fuel has to catch up. He went on to
say that I should change my riding style or get a pumper.
I decided to do the latter, and am installing the air box and pump carb.
Looking back, I might recommend trying the JXNEEDLE/SPRING and a bigger
main jet. I didn't know about that option when I ordered the QwikSilver
cause I hadn't found this mailing list yet.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the QwikSilver works great for
alot
of people. It may depend on how and where you ride the bike.
I knew I wouldn't be satisfied until I got the pump. I plan to send a
note and tell everyone about the huge gains (I hope to see) with the
air box, pump carb and Big Gun exhaust.
Later...Mark
