Subject: Re: (dr350) Altitude & Suspension Questions
Three things Jim...
1) I will be riding those great Co. jeep trails from 7/20-26. I will be
riding in about a 100 mile radius of Gunnison. Find Gunnison and /or Lake
City on a map & thats the area where I'll be camping/riding. I hear great
things about the Alpine Loop & Rainbow Trail.
2) If your jetting is still stock...you'll probably be OK at high altitudes,
according to what many seemingly knowledgable guys have told me. I dont
think you want to pull your snorkel (CO riding or not) unless you go the
full distance with carb jetting, JXneedle/spring, T-pilot screw adjuster,
etc... Your bike is probably so lean if its still stock that it will
actually run BETTER at high altitude. I am up 3 sizes on the main on mine,
& am taking my stock jet to change out for up there. Also, do yourself a
favor & buy a Pirelli MT-21 120/80-18 rear tire before you go up
there.....the stock tires suck on dirt/trails, & you will damn sure need
knobby tires for riding in that loose gravel stuff going up steep grades. A
tooth smaller front sprocket (or 3 larger rear) would also give you more
staying power on those long, steep grades.
3) I sent my front forks & rear shock to Precision Concepts (think that was
the name??...Kurt recommended him) in CA. For about $450 or so, they put
heavier springs all the way around, cartridge emulators up front, custom
revalve on rear, heavier fluids, & new fork seals. I find myself doing alot
of moderate jumping these days!!!! I never thought I would after having
tried it & face-planting w/ the stock suspension. This was well worth the
$$ in my opinion.
Take care-
Bryan in Dallas

Guy, Don't dump them to fast. When I first installed mine were way to soft
I bottom out going down old railroad beds. Make sure you have the right
spring I have a 7.6 KG and weigh in at 205. The stock spring won't even be
close I believe it's 5.8 KG. Make sure you preload is set correctly and set
the compression dampener to full hard. It made a big difference.
Jim.
