  48. A quick check of the Michelin tire fitment guide at 
  49. <http://michelinDB.pcy.mci.net:8085/mch/owa/w2selector.html> shows that the 
  50. original equipment size is 120/80T18. The 130/90-18 doesn't sound right.

  52. There are a couple different measurement systems floating around. The above 
  53. tires have a 120 mm cross-section with an 80% aspect ratio. There are some 
  54. others sizes that appear to be normalized to 100% aspect ratio. Weird...

  56. I guess if you can mount it, and it doesn't rub anything, you have the 
  57. right tire!

  120. The "110" (as in 110/100x18) refers to the width of the tire carcass in mm's. 
  121. In this case the tire carcass measures 110 mm wide. The actual width of the 
  122. tread on this tire is 130 mm (this may vary on 100% aspect ratio tires 
  123. depending on how far the outside row of knobs/tread extends beyond the body 
  124. of the tire).

  163. The way I learned, is the first number 120 is the wideness of the tire at=

  165. rim or carcass in millimeters, the second number is a percentage of the
  166. wideness (80%) , and the last number is say 18 on the rear  means 18 inch=

  170. So if you take a tire that is 120 wide and 80 % tall that means it is 96
  171. millimeter tall.
  172. if it is 110 mm. wide and 90 % tall that is 99 millimeter.
  173. So to answer your question if it is the same pattern of knobs or surface =

  175. 110 is a bit taller than the 120 , which means the 110 provides slightly =
  176. less
  177. acceleration and more top speed ( if the bike can rev over 7000 RPM in 6t=
  178. h
  179. gear ?)
  180. and the 120 which is slightly shorter would provide quicker acceleration =
  181. and
  182. less top speed. Again,  in the DR's case may be more top end RPM in 6th g=
  183. ear.
