I picked up a pair of road specific Metzeler's recently and they're tubeless
tires. Being the idiot I was, I used a screwdriver to remove the old tire
and believe I may have puntured the tube. Also being idiotwise, I decided
using tubes with tubeless tires would be a smart move. So after spending a
few hours mounting the new tires and the old tubes, again using the
screwdrivers, I find that the tires (front and rear) refuse to inflate. The
beads are seated well (used a tie-down around the circumference of the tire)
so the tubes are suspect.
What's the proper way of mounting these tubeless tires?

Aiyah. I test-rode one of them (Blasts) recently - Mark Apland
(Thumperstuff) was passing his around. First impressions? Geared way high
for a learner bike, pegs need to be brought back about 2 feet (or ya gotta
add a set of ape-hanger bars to match), and hurtin for bar-end weights
(seems it's not counterbalanced - an here I thought H-D had finally moved
into the 80's ...) Kinda odd looking, too, with the black casing covers,
Batmobile-esque belt guard and teeny rear disc (cut out of frisbee-esque
front disc) I s'pose they'll sell a whack of them, though - there bein no
accountin for taste ...

I recently bought a second-hand Laser Produro pipe from the son of my =

Suzuki dealer. Nice noise, lovely midrange but when I closed the =
throttle
the resultant backfire made the average small-scale war sound =
distinctly
muted. He'd had the same problem for the 6 months he'd had it and had =
been
unable to cure it, but for =A340/$60 I was prepared to put up with it. =
A
quick word with Jesse and I bought a spare pilot jet to play with. The =
book
said my model takes a 37, so I ordered a 42.5. Needless to say, when I =
took
the existing jet out it was a 42.5 (from new). The hole is way too =
small
for any drill I've got, so I cut a strand of wire and spent 10 minutes
pulling it backwards and forwards through the jet covered in rubbing
compound. Not very precise or technical I know, but having put it back
together the backfire has gone completely and it idles better. Jesse,
you're a star!

For those interested, here is the "results" of the modification on my 98
DR350SE:
Firstly the intake noise is increased quite a bit, a small increase over
just taking out the snorkel. I've kept the standard pipe which is of course
very quiet, so the airbox noise is more noticeable. A nice bark to the sound
while accelerating.
Throttle response took me a bit by surprise when I first pulled off my drive
- - almost slid me down the seat ! The main increase is from idle right up to
about 7000 rpm. Especially noticeable in tight stuff off-road when the bike
seems to punch out of bends really quite impressively and you can just keep
shifting up gear after gear with no loss of urge.
Snapping the throttle in first gear will stand it on its end, even from
idle. 2nd gear slightly more rpm, 3rd gear needs about 3000rpm and standing
up, 4th gear about 4000rpm. Just to scare myself I persuaded the bike to go
vertical in 5th with a determined bounce and tug, and big handful of revs.
And yes I did scare myself as this was about 60mph!
Point is that it will wheelie in a gear higher than before which when you
consider the weight of the S model is impressive.
Strange thing is, the power shuts off really quick at about 7500rpm and the
bike really doesn't want to do more than 80/85, same as before the mod, so a
bit disappointed with that. Fuel consumption hasn't changed much but I don't
go around at full throttle all the time anyway.
Tried various mains from 137 to 142 without noticing any difference. Still a
bit of pre-ignition under hard load so might try a different needle.
So overall very pleased and looking forward to doing the same to my KLX
which DOES slide me down the seat already....

Thanks Lisa...we should be ready by tomorrow...egroups only allows me to add
100 listers per day or work through customer service...I sent them a note

Hi all, I am about to check my valves and the last time I did this I had =
trouble finding TDC. What is the right way to find TDC and what would =
you recommend for the settings? There is an acceptable range for the =
clearance, is there a setting that works better? I just got a valve tool =
from Scotts that fits the 3 mm adjuster that should make thing a lot =

The 98 model was the first year with the fully adjustable suspension, so
these were only made in 98 and 99.
Suspension up to model year 97 was the same.

I have a 94 Dr350 street version, and find it to be a very light
handling bike with more power than I need. It will hold 65 or 70 on the
HWY. It's buzzing pretty good at those speeds, but the motor is
durable. The suspension differences on the 92 t0 96 and the 97 to 99
are tremendous. The 92 to 96 don't have any rebound adjustment on the
front or the rear. It is a major detriment. The 97 to 99 have both
adjustments on both ends as does the new DRZ400s. Get the DR later
version.
