Hello Jesse.....
Did I read right?.. you're running 13/52 gearing?.. won't that make 1st too
low and then run thru all the other gears too quick?
Should the hose coming from the bottom of the street DR CV carb that came
from the charcoal cannister system be plugged when disabling it?
Whatever happened to your custom rearset pegs for tall riders.. was there a
picture available?
Thanks..

If you're lucky, then so am I. I've done the same things, for the same
reasons -- removed everything but the piece of curved metal that mounts
underneath the front sprocket guard.
I only ride with boots, and I can't imagine how a part of a stiff
leather boot could possibly get caught in the front sprocket area, even
if I tried to stick it in there.
In my mind, the main danger of the chain is the master link opening up
and the chain whipping around to take my leg off. I check that link
diligently, and replace it at least once a season. (I know that a lot
of the DRs have a continuous chain, but a larger rear sprocket often
necessitates a new, longer chain.)

I just bought a '99 DR650 and am curious about the weights on the ends of
the handlebars. What is their purpose, and what's the effect of taking them
off?
Thanks, Andrew

Hi Andrew these are vibration dampening bar ends and help stop the rider
from getting numb hands on long trips, that is their purpose.

The turn signal thing sounds like either 1 bulb has blown, or 1/both are the
wrong wattage (should be 21watts).
The brake/tail lamp is a dual filament one (21w/5w), sounds like the 5w
filament has blown...
The trick about getting the bike into neutral is to do it while the bike is
still moving, doesn't have to be going fast...
good luck,

Greetings listers.
My 92 DR350S is almost ready to roll, but I'm having a bit of a
problem. After warming and riding for a while, the bike idles at like
5000 rpm when put into neutral. Also, the rpms stay high when the
throttle is let off after revving, even in gear. The throttle is not
sticking (checked that first). The top of the airbox has been mostly
cut out (previous owner).
We think we may have diagnosed the problem, but we're not sure yet.
The pilot screw (not the pilot jet) on the outside of the carb should
have a little dinky o-ring at the top and that was missing along with
the washer that pushes against it. Could this little part be causing
my difficulties or do you guys think something else is going on...
Thanks for yor advice.
Jon
ALSO! Does anyone know how to get my own personal copy of the parts
fiche for my bike? I'd like to have it blow up into a poster for my
apartment wall :)

Those are vibration dampers. Taking them off will be like combining
all four of your pistons into one.

That is a suspect thing and should be corrected because it can be pulling
air from the area that the o'ring is supposed to be sealing off. If your
dealer does not have these items your local bearing supply house should have
the o'ring. I have them if you can't find it locally.

I have a question for you Jesse I have a 96 dr350se with a few mods the
problem is that when I rev my bike or on a decent down a hill when I have the
clutch pulled in the RPM's take a while to come down even if I am standing
still the RPM doesn't return to normal right away it's not the throtle
because I already replaced the cables cleaned the carb and still no change ,
The only thing that looks out of the ordinary is the plastic piece that goes
on the needle under the clip seems to fit snug it still can move just not
freely I have already replaced the needle with the jxneedle and spring

They have just one purpose--to cut down on vibration. I wouldn't worry
about taking them off unless all you are going to do is run up and down the
interstate.
I took them off my DRZ400S with no ill effects--although your 650 may
show a little vibration--since it has a bigger engine.
I have a BMWF650 which I put Acerbis handguards on and thought of
getting rid of the weights. But it spends most of its time on the road
covering some pretty serious miles, so I left them on it.
