Hi Chris, I had a great time this weekend did about 115 miles of tight
trails, and some of it on a new DR400z a really nice bike, however my
350/435 the way I have it set up is like a well broken in set of house
slippers it just fits me and I wouldn't trade straight across. Thats kind of
a rash statement but for my kind of riding I really like my bike. It has
more bottom end than the Z which is more of a revver type which is
characteristic of the oversquare motor design, but really gets with the
program in the midrange to wide open throttle the suspension is really quite
good and can be tuned to most riding styles with springs and adjusting
depending on rider weight. we had the new kouba links on this one with the
springs set up tight and it didn't bottom once with a 225lb rider aboard
going over 4 to 5 ft water bars with a little airtime after each one. we
didn't get a chance to punch off due to the newness of the bike and not
enough straight distance to shut down things, speed builds very fast with
both bikes and the corners are too tight to negotiate at speed.
I have your shock done and should get the spring today or tomorrow. will
work on your triple clamps today so they will be ready to ship when the
spring comes in.
Regards,
Jesse Kientz

Hi Jesse, any news on the spring? Have you had any problems with the triple
clamps? Don't mean to bother you, I started taking off the airbox last
night and I'm going to start messing with carb tonight and it's just getting
me anxious to ride. How was riding friday? Well I'll talk at you later
Thanks........Chris

Howdy listers,
Does anyone know where I could order a compression release cable for my
93 DRS? A local dealer told me that there not in use anymore, I tend to
think that someone must have one. Also, does anyone have an opinion on
the white bros. header pipe for the DR? My local shop has one for $66,
I have heard that you can lose low end if you get it though, any
personal experience?
Thanks, Mike in Ashland Oregon

Subject: (dr) Highway Pegs/Engine Guards WARNING
Hello to the list,
I feel it is time to do something I would rather not, but since I have
received no response from the manufacturer, I feel it is appropriate.
I bought a se of Highway Pegs/Engine Guards for my DR350SE from Happy
Trails, the manufacturer. These are made quite well, and work just as
well as they look. However, a problem arose the first time I took it out
on the road. I burned a hole in my right boot!
Your leg is very close, if not touching, the exhaust pipe when your
foot is on the right peg. I had several people try this, and all had the
same problem. There is a heat shield on the pipe, but it is so close to
the pipe it gets almost as hot as the pipe.
I wrote Happy Trails about this, but never heard back from them. I
suggested the pegs could be a bit longer, or an adapter could be made
for those who have the problem. Perhaps all of the owners?
My solution, since they made no effort to correct the problem, was to
work up a new heat shield. Going into my supply of used parts, I came up
with a heat shield that fit fairly well. It happened to come from a
Goldwing six cylinder model, and is chrome, but could be painted black.
I made my own mounts and located the shield further from the pipe. I can
now sit with my bare leg against the heat shield while idling after a
hard run and with my leg on it during the run. It only gets warm now.
Hopefully Happy Trails will see this and have a response, and perhaps a
fix. I did not write this as a condemnation of their product. The
product is made very well, it just has a little problem. In my case it
cost me $20 to have the boot repaired. I do like having the pegs to use
while on the highway, and found that they help protect the bike in a
Tommy Tipover. I would not take them off for such a small problem, but I
would also not like to see others go through the same problem, perhaps
burning their leg instead of their boot.
See y'all at Moab!

Hello to the list,
in several mails I could read about those 'triple clamps'.
Could somebody please explain to me, what they are and what they are good for,
as my english is not good enough to know this expression.

hi..
im turgut, from istanbul, riding a '96 klr 650, "c
type" as we call here..
im about to propose a used bike to a friend of mine
and cant decide to buy him a '96 650RE.
if you ask why, i have spotted some differences
between ths one and the contemporary dr650SE models..
the newer one has got chrome exhaust, a smaller tank a
different pair of front fork, and a rear shock
absorber with adjustable gas pressure.etc...
what i wonder is, is the 96 dr650RE TOO worse than
the preceeding dr650SE model?
if not, what is your opinion for proposing this bike
to a beginner? would it be too powerful?
i think it has got superb brakesand think its better
than riding a smaller engined bike with poorer
brakes..
anyway, i'd be very happy if you answer my mail 'cos i
need some help.. or you could also tell me the one who
might know this subject..
if you have any questions about the "c type" klr, i'll
try to answer as best as i can..
if you havent seen it yet, check it at www.kawasaki.de
thanks a lot...

I have an FMF powercore muffler with the same set
up.If you have an aftermarket muffler go to a 147.5
thats what I have and yet faster than with the 142.5
if your bike can handle it.To much and the bike will
stutter up top then simply drop a jet size.Another
list member tried this a while back and was happy he
did.

I have an oversided header pipe on back order with Thumper Racing. Any
feedback on the Thumper Header or alternatives would be appreciated.
My complete '99 DR350SE set-up for now is Vortex, JXSpring, Needle, Oversided
Header, stock exhaust and a 145 Main Jet. I haven't changed the airscrew
factory setting yet (not sure what to do here, seems ok now).
Also, going to change to after-market perches since the clutch saftey wiring
is easily defeated.

Hello guys I just stumbled upon a brand new DR
forum.The address is www.dr350.com I personally like
the idea of a forum as I belong to one for a
car(LS1.com). It is a much more organized way to post
tech chat, ques, and any info on all DR's.The site is
new so there is not much up there yet but I think we
here on the list can get this forum jumping.Go to the
350 section and just sign up(free) and get a topic going.

the list. I find it ironic that you would use the existing list to publicize
another way of communicating about the dr. I think you've missed a common

John, Thanks for the info. I'm interested in the new DR400.
Any other lists or real world ride reports.
I would like to hear from someone that had a XR400 and would
honestly compare the two.
