Subject: (dr) Advice on Larin Motorcycle Jack
Hi,
Sam's Club in St. Louis is selling the Larin 1500lb. Motorcycle/ATV
Jack (Model LATV-J) for $99.97. The box says the jack's maximum height
is 17", the lowest height is 5". It also has 6 locking positions. Does
anyone have any experience with this jack or with other Larin jacks?
Any recommendations? Warnings?
I was going to replace the foot-stool I currently use with a Moose
lift stand or comparable model, but the Larin jack looks much more
versatile. Unfortunately, it's also a lot heavier and takes up more
floor space when it's not in use.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I haven't set suspension sag in so long I have forgotten how!!!!!
I'm thinking the rear suspension sag should be about 100MM-----That is 100MM
difference from the rear suspension being fully extended---to when I am
sitting on it with all my gear. Am I all wet??????
What about the front??????

Hi Mark,you just lift the bike with a jack stand so the wheel is off the
ground. You measure from the center of the rear axle to 20 inches and make
a small mark on the side cover, then let the bike down and with riding gear
stand on the pegs with some one holding the bike have some one remeasure
from the center of the axle up to your mark 100mm is 4inches so you should
now be 16 inches with inches of sag. Hope this helps

Mark,
When you set your sag, it is reccomended that to be consistant, the
rider needs to be standing on the pegs, as an inch forward or back
setting on the seat is a lot. Put a mark on the rear fender where it is
perpendicular to axel arc, and measure from the axel to the mark with
the rear wheel off the ground. Then make the same measurement from the
same two points with the rider (in full riding gear) standing on the
pegs. The Suzuki Rep. told us that 3.75" of sag is where it should be
on the DRZ400. The problem is, if you are around 180 lbs, after setting
the sag at 3.75 inches, the free sag (motorcycle weight only) is over
1.25 inches. This is approx. 1/2 inch more than it should be. This
tells me the rear spring is either too stiff for the average, or the sag
should be set at around 3.25 inches for the lighter riders. The front is
just fine with the .44kg springs and the preload is pretty close unless
motorcross is the plan. Let us know what sag setting works best for
you. Norm

Hello everybody,
I just had a nice ride today in the Tillamook Burn area up here in Oregon,
on the new Kientech engineered scooter- it's definitely two thumbs up!
Rode with an RM250 and an XR400, and found a chance to do a little drag
racing against the XR.
Easily passed him, no question who had the juice between them. The DR
hasn't even been broken in yet, less than a tank of gas thru it.
Didn't get a chance to drag the XR600 that joined us, not that I expect it
to beat one but it would have been interesting to compare.
Ever do third gear power wheelies? accidentally?
For anyone who has considered upgrading their DR, I can say without doubt
that you will be pulling lots of bugs from your teeth from grinning so hard.
It's really kinda fun to surprise riders who haven't been exposed to a
almost maxed out DR. ( "what are those big fins? 'That doesnt sound like my
buddy's DR" Hey I need one of those chest guards, those rocks HURT")

Fat head pipe ( he hand made this one from stainless and had it plated with
space age secret stuff)
Took the head to an exclusive machine shop ( my dad's =) and added cooling
fins as big as you can possibly add ( thanks dad!! )
Lowered, rearset footpegs
I guess that's most of the mods so far. Other things I want to do yet:
The bike has a Cobra muffler, I'm gonna junkpile it where it belongs and get
a power core IV or Big gun this week to round it out the engine work,
Jetting with a Cobra is known to be problematic, and I want mine to run as
good as Jesse's does =). He has the older Mega Max I think.
Also might know someone who boxes in swingarms =)
A warning to all of you, if you ever get a chance to ride Jesse's DR you
will be bitten, and you will succumb to the intoxication of the Thumper in
all it's glory - this is inescapable, so be forewarned.....
