Hello Norm,
I understand that you actually do not offer the Kouba links for the DR
650 (I have seen that you are planning to make them for the DR400 too).
Maybe you could explain to the DR650 owners of the list if we can expect
you to develop some.
Or isn't there any need because the suspensions geometry is 'better'
than the DR 350 one's and it would not be an improvement ?
Thanks
Rainer

Jeff, what is the lowered footpeg think that you did? Can you
explain? I have put a set of rear pegs about 10 inches behind my
stockers and find it does wonders for uphill climbs. Much more control
and not as much strength required to hold yourself up to the handle
bars. Do you have a picture of your setup?
Incidentally how much would all that modification (all the Mods) to
the bike cost the average guy.
Answer these questions to the whole list, please. I think everyone
would be interested.

Subject: (dr) Non-DR: Collett communicators
Hi,
I've been looking at Collett's (http://www.collett.mb.ca/)
website. They have 2 helmet communicators: handsfree,
voice activated.
They are very expensive at $260 for the Model 900 and
$160 for the Model 49. Of course you have to multiply
that by 2 (1 for me, 1 for my son) and that adds up to
big money.
Has anyone used these? And what did you think?
Does anyone know of an alternative to Collett?

Subject: Re: (dr) DR650SE, Kouba links
Rainer and DR650 Listers,
We have not developed Kouba Links for the later model DR650 because to my
knowledge no-one is manufacturing rear springs with the heavier rates
required for the stock links, and new links would require even heavier.
Also the DR650 already can be lowered with the extra height adjustment on
the bottom shock mount, so lowering the rear would not be one of the
benefits as with the DR350. I would not say the DR650 geometry is better
than the DR350, I would say that even stock both models are grossly under
sprung both front and rear and when riding double are bottomed out against
the shock stop in the rear before they even move. There is definitely a
need for some help on the DR650's rear suspension, but untill rear springs
become available we are not planning on new links at this time. If anyone
out there knows of a line of heavier rear springs for the DR650, please
bring us up to date as we have had a number of inquires asking these same
questions. Thanks for the inquiry and if anything changes, we will post it
on the DR list. The DRZ400 lowering links are now available and hope to
get the web-page updated soon. Jeff H. hhheeelllppp

Hi Everyone,
What is the real value of boxing the swingarm on our DR's? Will the =
bike track straighter in the rough stuff and handle the hard hits better =
or is this modification just food for our minds? =20
Next: I have a suspension set-up question. I have had my fork and shock =
revalved and resprung by Fineline Racing (highly recommended by Desert =
racing folks) which has helped a lot. At high speeds (at least for me), =
I get a rear end kick in the rough stuff. Sag is set correctly. I am =
running a .46kg springs in the front (10mm preload) and 6.7kg spring on =
the rear without Norm's links (I know this is a sin in this group). =
Should I increase the compression damping or reduce it? I stayed away =
from the links on the recommendation by Norm due to the fact they would =
really heat up the shock when running for miles in the California desert =
whoops. I can't reasonably go for more HP if I can't keep the bike =
going straight and keep it on the ground. Any suggestions? =20
Finally (whew): Has anyone installed the Baja Design seat kit? Is it =
easy to do and was it worth it? I am tired of banging my butt on the =
rear fender and hear the longer length of this seat helps.
Just curious as to how to schedule the next modification to my trusty =
old 93 DRS or should I just quit now and save for a new KTM 400 E/XC?

Hi Jesse,
I dropped down to a 137.5 as you suggested and everything worked great. =
This change smooth out the power delivery considerably in the rocks and =
rough hills. Thanks. I finished the Dirt Diggers National Hare and =
Hound last weekend and think I did really well in the four stroke class. =
Come to think about it my DR always finishes (slow and steady may =
eventually win my class). It was really cool watching the faces on the =
guys running WRs and XRs when I pass them in the nasty rock and single =
track sections. Now the whoops are another story. See my other email =
on some suspension questions.
Jesse - Thanks again . You are a valuable asset to this group.

Hi Everyone,
My 93 DR350S has an engine miss at very high RPMs. I am running with a =
stock CV carb (37.5 pilot, 140 main, JX needle in 4th position), a FMF =
PowerCore IV pipe and a modified airbox. Just for grins, I went to a 145 =
main and it got worse. Does this sound like an carb or electrical =
problem? Other than this miss the bike runs great. BTW: I do have a new =
plug and UNI airfilter.
