Hi Mike, sounds like the idle circuit is a little lean, I would recommend
opening the fuel screw a little maybe 1/8 to 1/4 turn this should help.

I recently put a Mikuni pumper carb on my DR350 and have noticed it is a
lot harder to start when cold. With the CV carb all I had to do was pull
the choke and hit the button and it would start within 2-3 seconds. When
I try that now it probably takes 10-15 seconds with some stalling and
restarting. Anyone have any suggestions?

I too am looking for advice on a startup problem. I just had a Baja Designs
light kit installed by someone. When the bike was delivered, it started
great -- 2-3 kicks, but when riding, I noticed some hesitation at higher
revs, and it sounded differently. Got on the bike yesterday and it would not
start for nothing. Smelled gas. It was on the verge of starting, a few times
it started for a few seconds, then died. It backfired a few times, when I
kicked it. Tried all choke variations. The mechanic said he did some
adjustments to valves and carb...Any suggestions most appreciated.!

Hello Brian,
If you have a DR350S, then wire it direct to the battery. You want the GPS
to remain ON when you turn the key off. If you have a 350X (ie no battery)
your headlight/taillight voltage is "AC" and will not run the GPS. To get
"DC" you will need a rectifier and a small battery.
Very possible to do it yourself, but if you want to take the easy way out,
http://www.bajadesigns.com has everything you need including a prefab
wiring harness and instructions.

Brian,
Save yourself a lot of problems and just run a wire direct to the
battery. That way you won't have to worry about it being turned off when
you switch of the key. I do a lot of checking of topo coordinates while
stopped. Just make sure you turn it off after the end of your ride. It
will drain the battery, after several days. Don't ask me how I know!

Ric,
Take a look again, they only have front springs for the DR650, but do
have both for the DR350.

Hi list,
may be some of you are interested in an uncommon modification of a
DR 350 SE.
Some weeks ago I found a boy (in the Web) who has modified his
DR 350 to a Supermoto bike. Supermoto is, as far as I know,
not common in the States, but in Europe - Enduro bikes with
17 " wheels and street/racing tires, especially for racing on
outdoor cart tracks.
If someone is interested in: send a mail to
GM-Computer@t-online.de
his name is Gernot.
All times good grip

I got a headlight from a local shop.. thanks for the response..
Do you want to buy the dual headlight setup.. it's a white steel frame that
bolts to the fork pinch bolts and was incredibly bright.. if I hadn't broke
one of the Hella bulbs (6 1/4") comes with waterproof rocker switch and
relay.. this is for street DR only because of the high current draw of the
lamps... $35 + shipping

Let me know the year and I can send you a schematic. It is the DR350,
not the DR350S? Also, FYI, many Garmin GPS units will work on any
voltage from 6 to 50. My GPS III+ also has a voltmeter built in. Handy
to just check on the charging system. Especially if you are running any
accessories.

Hi John,
A couple clarifications:
Some Garmin units convert down to 5-8v (such as GPS12). If you're using a
Garmin converter cable then you have to get pretty close to 12vDC. eMap,
eTrex convert down to 3v.
Many Garmins (II, II+, III, III+, 12XL, 12MAP) will run on 10v to 32vDC
external power. They get sketchy down around 10v, so better provide
11-32v. If you have a tiny nicad battery (such as on BajaDesigns kits)
using the rear brake a lot (as on mountain switchbacks) can run the battery
down below 11volts, which causes the GPS to shut down.
The voltmeter in the III+ is very handy for chasing down charging problems!
