The advantage I see to AW is that it supports older 68k Macs where WB requires PowerMacs. And while AW may not be what WB is, I think it's variety and attempt to interest everyone of definite interest :)
This doesn't have anything to do with flight sims really. It's just a request for info.
I know a lot of you guys play other sims outisde of flight sims. What I want to know is what other mac sims you guys play, if and what message boards/forums there are and the really good web pages for those sims.
Westlake Interactive posted an update on the status of Falcon 4.0, the forthcoming flight simulator that puts Mac pilots in the cockpit of an F-16 Fighting Falcon, one of the deadliest fighting jets in the world. The game was licensed by Microprose for publication on the Mac by MacSoft.
"Falcon 4.0 Mac is coming along well, with much of the recent work taking place on the networking front. The game is playing well over TCP/IP against both Macs and PCs. The next step will be to go into full beta (sorry the beta list is full, please don't email!) and after some heavy testing it should be ready to go.
"The Mac code is now up to date with the PC shipping version, and we're hoping to integrate any patches that come out on the PC before the Mac version ships.
"Given the complexity of this sim, we're holding off on estimated ship dates. But the project is certainly on final approach :) Keep checking these web pages for updates."
MacSoft had previously intimated that the cutting-edge flight simulator would be ready to ship in March or April. Based on what MacGaming.com saw of this flight sim (in an early development version shown at Macworld), this title is sure to be a hit for flight sim enthusiasts looking for maximum realism. It's particularly good news to hear that networking has been the developers' focus recently; PC gamers who already have the title in hand have been complaining about problems associated with the game's networking capabilities.
A new version of Laminar Software's X-Plane is ready for download. The new version sports the usual array of bug fixes and improvements. Most importantly, 4.62 introduces InputSprocket support into the Mac version, so Mac flight sim enthusiasts can now use any InputSprocket-compliant joystick or controller they want (finally enabling iMac users to utilize their game controllers).
X-Plane's chief claim to fame is its amazing modularity: the product ships with tools to enable users to design their own terrain elements and even their own aircraft. X-Plane is also one of the first Mac titles to depend on OpenGL for its graphics acceleration capabilities. More info, including a downloadable demo, is available at the company's Web site.
For those of you that remember Tom Morrison and wonder what he has been busy with....as of Feb 22, he is now the father of twins, Ashley and Patrick. He also has a 2 year old daughter.
Considering Tom's dedication to flight sims, I expect to see his kids online sooner then later
The site has not been generally accessible for awhile now, but the MFS ftp site is now back on line courtesy of Duncan Obispo..
Originally this site began as strictly a Mac site. But in order to help encourage cross platform playability and the formation of a total flight sim community, PC sims and files have been added.
Primarily I add files that I think will be of interest. But anyone can contribute files to the site by uploading them to the incoming directory. If you do contribute something, please include a text file with a descrition and your name for proper credit
