Subject: BUFFYFIC: ADMIN: List rules
Welcome! This list is for fiction related to "Buffy The Vampire
Slayer," both the TV series and the movie. To ensure that we all get
to enjoy as much fiction as possible, please adhere to the following
guidelines, and please save them for future reference.
1. Fiction should have Buffy characters in it and clearly be related
to Buffy. Crossovers are great, and expected, but general
vampire/monster stories that aren't in the Buffy universe and don't
use Buffy characters belong somewhere else.
2. Discussion of posted fiction is permitted onlist. Please put
"DISCUSS" in your subject line. Requests for missing story parts
should go directly to the author, and not be posted to the list.
Discussion that is not related directly to the fiction should go over
to the general Buffy list. Discussion of fiction is expected to
follow common netiquette guidelines and use PG-13 language.
3. No advertising of <any> items or services, Buffy related or not,
and no posting of non-story items such as .gifs, sound files, etc..
No attached files of <any> kind-- if your mailer makes your fiction
into attached files, you need to find another way to get it to the list.
4. If you're writing a story and including advance information on a
new episode, and you're posting your story earlier than the national
viewing time, please:
**Mark the post as a "spoiler" in the subject header.
**Leave about twelve lines (blank or with non-spoiler info) at
the top of the post.
This ensures that anyone who doesn't like knowing about an episode
ahead of time is "protected." :) The blank space is for people whose
mailers automatically open up the next piece of mail, without giving
them a chance to see "spoiler" in the header.
Spoiler warnings are not necessary after the start of the episode's
national viewing time, which is currently set at 9 p.m. Mondays,
Eastern Standard Time. Spoiler warnings are not necessary for reruns.
5. This list is absolutely NOT for erotic fiction. <Nothing> stronger
than sexually PG-13 material is to be posted to the list under any
circumstances. A story may be R rated for violence or language, however.
If you have a question about something's suitability for posting, feel
free to ask one of the listowners. Sending sexually explicit material
will get you immediately and permanently unsubscribed. No exceptions.
6. By subscribing and/or posting to this list, you acknowledge that
Buffy the Vampire slayer and all characters associated with either
the televised series or the motion picture were created by Josh Whedon
and are owned by Mutant Enemy productions, Kuzui Productions,
Sandollar Productions, and 20th Century Fox. All stories posted to
this list are for entertainment purposes only, are not sold for profit
of any kind, and are not intended to infringe on any copyrights.
7. When posting stories to the list, please follow the following
formatting guidelines
- --No story parts longer than 250 lines
- --No more than three (3) story parts posted per day
- --No lines longer than 75 characters
- --Turn off your "smart quotes"-- many readers receive these as garbage
or weird symbols
- --Put the title of the story in the subject header, indicate if it's a
multipart story, and if so what part this is. Example: Buffy Meets
Godzilla (2/65) indicates that this post is part two of a 65 part story.
8. If a story is rated "R" for language/violence, indicate this in an
introduction. For example, "There's a really bloody fight scene at
the end of this part" or "if you don't like dismemberment, stop
reading now!" If there's <any> chance that someone might be disturbed
by something in your story (even if it's not rated R) please include
some kind of warning up front.
9. And last, but not least, the listowners reserve the right to deny
subscription (new, renewed, or continued) to the list for any
individual(s).
PLEASE NOTE: not following any or all of these rules will get you
the following:
**First offense: offender is unsubscribed for one week.
**Second offense: offender is unsubscribed to the Buffyfic list for a
minimum of three months.
**If the offender returns and does it again, they're offlist
permanently.
As noted above, posting sexually explicit material is the exception --
you go straight to permanent unsubbing.
Again, welcome! If you have any questions about these rules, please
contact either one of us offlist. If you have subscription problems or
questions, the fastest way to get help is to e-mail one of us at the
addresses below, <not> at the kirby@xmission.com addy which is the
"official" e-mail owner of the list.

Subject: BUFFYFIC: Decision of a Lifetime
Title: Decision of a Lifetime
Author: Northlight
email: uzenet@videotron.ca
Rating: PG-13 (?)
Content: Character death.
Summary: Buffy has to deal with a decision she's made.
Disclaimer: Joss owns them all.
Author's Notes: All that I can say was that I was in a weird mood when
I wrote this.
This was partially inspired by Lori McDonald's 'Split Second Decision'.
She waited at his door, her arms wrapped around her thin body
protectively. When he finally appeared, the door swinging open beneath
his hand, she looked up at him with wide, lost eyes that tore at his
heart.
"Buffy, what are you doing here?" Angel asked, drawing her into his
apartment with a gentle pull.
She didn't answer immediately. Rather, she threw herself into his
arms, wrapping herself around him with a soft sigh. "Make me _forget_
Angel. Please..."
"Buffy..."
His protest died when her lips latched onto his with a desperate
hunger. "Make me forget, Angel."
"I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. There was nothing I could do. It was
too late. Oh God, there was nothing--"
Willow latched onto the trembling Slayer's arm, her eyes wide and
worried. "What happened? Please, you're scaring me, Buffy!"
They were waiting for her, their faces already drawn and worried. But
they didn't _know_. They didn't know! "I'm so sorry! I couldn't save
him.... I couldn't save Giles!" She was sobbing, the harsh cries
escaping from her with no effort to hold them back.
"Giles?" Willow gasped, her hand tightening around Buffy's arm as she
struggled to stop swaying. "He's..." Her head shook in denial, and
tears formed in her wide green eyes.
"I couldn't help him!" Buffy barely choked out.
'Liar!' her mind hissed.
"I couldn't!"
Her hands clutched at him desperately, holding him to her with all of
her strength. Small hands trained to rid the world of evil trailed over
his bare back. The almost feverish warmth of her trembling body warmed
the cold expanse of his flesh.
"Angel," she whimpered into his shoulder, her hands restlessly roaming
his back without leaving contact with him for the slightest moment.
"Please..."
He understood her plea, his body moving against her and letting her
mind fly free from it's self made cage of guilt and shame for an all too
brief moment.
As her body stilled, and her mind came crashing back into it's prison,
and once again, she was drowning within herself.
His eyes were angry, full of rage and accusal. "You lied to us,
Buffy! You told us that you couldn't help him!"
"I couldn't!" Buffy nearly shrieked, glaring at Xander as if she could
keep his words at bay by the pure force of her desire to deny them. "I
tried! I tried! I did!"
He looked at her with disgust backing away from her in a physical
display of the emotion she could so clearly hear in his voice. "You
chose Angel over Giles' life. You let a monster live rather than the
man who devoted his life to you!"
"It's not true! I couldn't help Giles! That thing had clawed his
chest, and there was so much blood all over it and him and everything
and it was too late. It was too late..."
'And you'd already lost Angel, hadn't you? Couldn't stand to go
without him again, could you? Couldn't go through the guilt or the pain
of letting Angel go. You didn't need Giles as long as you had Angel,
wasn't that it?'
"Too bad Giles wasn't fucking the Slayer, or he might still be
around!" Xander sneered, the words more accusatory than they had ever
been.
"That's not it..." Buffy cried out desperately. She searched out
Willow's eyes, looking for understanding, for forgiveness, for something
more than the hate in Xander's.
The tears in Willow's eyes hid everything else, and Buffy thought that
she'd never see beyond those tears again.
"Who next, Buffy? Me? Willow? Who?!"
"It wasn't like that!"
'I just let him die.'
His arms were wrapped around her, holding her body close to his own.
She didn't speak, nor move deeper into his embrace. All that he could
hear was the shallow rasp of her breath.
"Chose one, Slayer. Lover or Watcher?"
Her eyes flashed over her bruised and rumpled Watcher, to settle on
Angel. He was slumped on the floor, the blow delivered to his head
leaving him hovering on the brink of unconsciousness.
She loved him. She needed him.
Her eyes drifted back to Giles. The thing's claws were at his neck,
but his eyes were calm behind his shattered glasses. Something beyond
description passed through his eyes as she met them. He would not stop
her. He knew that she needed Angel.
"Go," he mouthed, his face expressionless, his eyes unreadable. He
knew. He always had known.
As her arms wrapped around Angel, hauling him to his feet, the creature
struck, and Giles' blood ran freely. His body slumped to the ground
covered in his own blood, and he stared after Buffy's retreating back
with wide, glassy eyes.
Buffy pulled away from Angel, his arms dropping to his side uselessly.
At his side, yet further away than she had ever been, Buffy curled into
a ball as the tears began to flow once more.
